Well, the love triange was never really done. Dylan never stopped loving Kelly. He spent all of season 5 pining for her. He just didn't do anything to win her back until after he saw her in his "past life". And Kelly was still in love with Dylan too. Otherwise she wouldn't have kissed him back...multiple times. And she wouldn't have held onto those plane tickets and debated about whether or not she should dump Brandon go to Europe with Dylan.

I remember when these episodes first aired and I wanted so badly for Kelly to choose Dylan. They are the only couple on the show who use the term soul mates with any real conviction. And when Kelly is choosing between them, she tells Donna that she loves Brandon, but Dylan will always have a piece of her soul.

She was always sad whenver Dylan's name was brought up later on too. I think if Dylan never left, she would've gotten back together with him instead of Brandon.

yup. if you watch closely, dylan's "hypnosis" is compared to kelly's brainwashing at the cult so we're really not supposed to take either of those storylines seriously. they're just meant to show how vulnerable dylan and kelly are to deception and illusions. dylan and kelly are a romanticized couple that we imagine in our minds, like hypnosis, but the reality falls short- kelly is intolerant of Dylan and he's always high and not interested in her.
