people to delete it on vista like he said open the command prompt but to do this its DIFFERENT. hold shift and right click any where on the desktop then click on the " open command window here" then when u have it open THEN do the ren thingy
Strange glitch that you can't just delete it outright. Though you could save a step by doing
del /s " "
(where the space is alt-0160 or alt-255). The catch is that it's a direct deletion—no recycle bin service.
(Note: alt-0 codes do not work at the command line in all versions of Windows, hence the alt-255 (which gets translated). But then older versions will let you yoink it via the GUI.)
(Meanwhile: Why do they have multiple blank icons? Nevermind; it's MS; it doesn't have to make sense.)
Most—if not all—notebook keyboards have a number-pad mode. In some cases it involves the Fn key or whatnot. On my ThinkPad i type num-lock (which is shift-scroll-lock on that keyboard); then 7,8,9 and the letters below them become the num-pad, and i can type alt-codes or do any other num-pad activity.
Oooh. Let me guess: non-US keyboard layout. The right alt key becomes altgr in that case, and you have to use the left one. Slight oversight on Chris' part.
For those of you that have a problem deleting this file, remeber to copy the cmd.exe file to where you actually put the "alt+0160" from the start, like this:
(in this example i chose to put it onto the desktop)
search for cmd -> copy it and paste it onto the desktop -> then run the command prompt with admin status from there with the
Chris, when I originally seen this folder, I had thought you randomly named those folders. Now that the school year is half over, I know that the folder names were a reference from To Kill a Mockingbird (Boo Radley. :P)
Obviously not, you cant figure out how to do a god damn invisible folder trick on a laptop. Please don't make yourself look like an arrogant prick, like you are now.
hey im trying but its not working. when i hold ALT and type 0160, and i let go of the ALT key. i dont see teh empty space. the text is still visible. plz helpppppp
in command prompt, and in the same folder as the invisible folder, type:
ren "alt + 255" delete
dont put "alt + 255" in letters. Actually press alt, and type 255, which will appear blanck. the quotations have to appear. the folder will be renamed then
Chris: I made an invisible folder in my documents folder, how do I delete that one? when I open the command prompt it just goes to c:\users\john> and I can't figure out what to do from there. Thanks...
hey, what about password protected that invisible folder? that is without installing some clunky third party software. Any tweak with windows that will allow that?

i know now,no point with invisible folders anyway...all you hav to do is hover mouse over position and it shows up...
james01246 3 years ago
so it just a little trick no need to bash it
i bet if you showed a little kid he'd think you were the coolest thing since Pokemon..
i like it.. :)
but there really isnt a point
if you truly wanted to make it invisible you would have to enable its hidden attribute but thats pointless also

Yeah, dont get me wrong! This was a really good tut for peeps who wanna do it =)
