I'm vegan, but I still think we should all try and get CAK in action. The whole world wont go vegetarian, for the same reason that they wont all stop smoking, it's based on choice. So we should at least fix problems with cruelty--CAK is extremely effective, pain free, and it also is much easier to process dead chickens who don't scratch and bite workers. Read Salughterhouse by Gail Eisnitz.Stop being spineless pussies and make a choice already--fix the problem, or stop eating meat.

@yamaha100ify First, learn to spell. Hard to take you seriously. Also, Peta is against animal cruelty. Just because it makes money doesn't mean it's right. Peta isn't the only animal rights organization, they're just the oldest and most effective. Maybe if the problems were FIXED, Peta would mind their business.
@Shiftx5 Poultry, which includes chickens, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits, are not covered under the usda humane slaughter act. Why? Who knows. CAK is a groundbreaking, and very effective movement. Pretty soon we'll have pigs and cows going threw similar means of unconscious processing. All thanks to PETA <3

I agree with your point entirely. However, PETA's agenda here is to change industrial slaughter practices to reduce animal suffering in a world that refuses to stop killing animals to eat. You're right, we shouldn't eat meat if it's not necessary to do so (and it isn't at present), but in the meantime, let's be pragmatic and realistic. It's undeniably a step in the right direction.
So born to die. Is ethical treatment for animals. What is your purpose. To get them treated fairly so you can rest your soul when you bite into one. I don't plan on being turned into an animal when I die. So therefore I don't create an environment as if I would be turned into one and treated fairly. Animals are living beings on this or any planet that life inhabits. Humans have no feelings. Where is the point to make it better. GET RID OF ANIMAL TESTING, EATING, HUNTING, TRAPPING. ETC.
i dont care what anyone says cuz i kno i'd much rather suk gas then be scalded alive. i wish it wasnt like this but its gonna happen anyway so all slaughter houses should cak.
Yet another example of PeTA lying. I'm a huge animal lover, but I believe this world would be far better off without PeTA. They are patently dishonest.
The narrator says, "In the chamber, the birds' oxygen is replaced with a mixture of inert gasses and carbon dioxide, gently putting them to sleep"
Gently putting them to sleep? I don't think so. It's called asphyxiation....basically, the chickens are being suffocated to death. How is that more humane than having their heads cut off?
Dishonest? PETA's case for CAK is based upon sound science and studies (similar to human aviation physiology) into the least aversive gas mixtures used in CAK, which demonstrated that anoxia-induced unconsciousness is euphoric, painless, and rapid.
Wrap yourself around these numbers: Of the 9 billion chickens slaughtered every year in the U.S., 25% enter the defeathering tanks fully conscious. An estimated 180 million chickens are cooked alive in scalding vats.
It´s not asphyxiation (common misconception that I also had before learning how it worked), birds breath normally only the air has got no oxygen (no poison whatsoever, simply no oxygen). So they go through a process similar to falling asleep.
@DrSandmann hahahaha it's internal asphyxiation. they still breathe normally, it's not like somebody actually strangles them ahahahaha this is what happens in a closed environment without oxygen exchange: you get tired (too much CO2, too little O2 in the air), you fall asleep, you die. you might even dream of unicorns, but you're definitely not going to clutch your throat in agony.
i'd choose that over having my head cut off any day
Please people, get with reality! This is as real as it gets. Either you condone it or you don't...but the truth of the matter is both giant conglomerate companies don't care about the chickens or your health welfare.
As a Poultry Scientist I have to ask.....how can you properly bleed out a bird if the heart is not beating to pump out the blood. Wouldn't this just cause the bird to have a red appearance causing USDA to call it a cadaver and condem it. I am no longer in the poultry industry so this method is new to me..I just don't see how it can work.
The birds aren't technically dead, only unable to feel pain or struggle. It's as if they've undergone a process that puts them to sleep, not stops the heart. This allows them to still bleed out to undergo the steps necessary for poultry production.
"In an ideal world, the cages would be empty. This world is not ideal nor should we approach animal slaughter from the misguided notion that meat-eating will cease in the near future." - It might not be the near future but I believe someday it will, and so should any other person that claims to be an "Animal Rights advocate".
My opinion is that PETA mostly does more harm than good to the abolition of animal exploitation. They still do some good so I don't see anything wrong with disccusing it.
I am of the opinion that in their 27 years, PETA has exposed the most vulgar forms of cruelty inflicted upon animals that the sadistic human mind could have ever devised.
That PETA has employed the "Lettuce Ladies" and other street theatrics to bring attention to the plight of animal suffering does not detract from their successes.
They will get whatever chance to make a scandal, or have a "celebrity" strip "for the animals".
Then they have their beloved nude poster girls screwing up in public like Annalise Braakensiek saying stupid things like: "I'm not saying don't eat lamb. It's about the live transportation. Please kill them first, there's no need to unnecessarily torture them. I just want animals to have the most beautiful life possible."
Oh but she cares for animals right? Come on man! That's insulting!
Ms. Braakensiek's loaned her voice to expose the horrors that animals endure in the live-export trade. As she stated, though she does not eat meat, the focus of the ad was to bring attention to the live transport of animals for slaughter, which she has successfully done.
The needless suffering of animals is insulting--not the disrobed human body of a vegetarian in all of its perfection!
"Disrobed human body of a vegetarian in all of it's perfection"
I came back to this video to find you, I remembered you since I read a few days ago about a Peta superbowl ad being banned in the United States. After watching the Ad, I wanted to punch the computer screen.
But I guess you think showing off women practically masturbating with broccoli is good PR right? No sexism, just fine art. Sure.
Sexist? By it objectifying women? I think most woman (as well as men) enjoy attention from the opposite sex. If I were attractive enough to be a sex selling model on TV, I may choose that option. It's absurd to think that it is not human nature to desire sex, and even more absurd to think that it's not going to be on TV. As it turns out, sex is one of the few things that the superbowl watching America might possibly be swayed by.
Peta encouraging people to eat at KFC !what rubbish! They are as motivated as anyone to continue stopping this cruelty. Rome wasn't built in a day and progress is progress
Mate, open your eyes. Peta called off the boycott on KFC Canada and encouraged people to go and eat the veggie burgers.
Progress is when people go vegan, not when people feel that is OK to eat an animal just because it was killed on a not-so-cruel but equally disgusting manner.
Welfare reforms are on their way anyway, once producers realize it is more PROFITABLE to use those kinds of methods instead of their current.
KFC kills 1 billion chickens every year. 1 million animals are eaten every hour in the U.S., and now you want to blame PETA for this, too?
In an ideal world, the cages would be empty. This world is not ideal nor should we approach animal slaughter from the misguided notion that meat-eating will cease in the near future.
PETA promotes veganism while working to bring about meaningful reforms in the way animals live, are handled, and die for their flesh.
PETA does not promote veganism, but "happy" meat and praises "happy meat" hucksters, such as Whole Foods.
People has made "deals" with some of the worst animal exploiters on the planet. For example, after McDonald's agreed to require that its suppliers obtain flesh from slaughterhouses approved by Temple Grandin, PETA declared that McDonald's was "leading the way" in fast-food-animal welfare reform.
Your criticism of Grandin is duly noted. Nothing in her recommendations suggest "humane" handling or slaughter to me, but that's because I'm a vegan.
However, Grandin's techniques for moving animals through the chutes go a long way to reduce the animals' stress and fear, thus making them less likely to stall in the chute, thus reducing the likelihood that some frustrated hump will beat, prod, or electrocute an animal frozen with terror.
I must admit that for a moment in my life I questioned Grandin's motives. However, as an animal lover, protector and a vegan.. in discussions with many indivuduals, I have absolutely concluded that, ANY REDUCED ANIMAL SUFFERING is a bonus -- of course empty cages would be the ultimate goal, no doubt in my mind, but the world took many generations to build up to this horror and it will be an education and somewhat of a process to reverse the damage.
PETA recognizes Grandin's simple suggestions to remove triggers that frighten and stall the animal: changing lighting, enclosing the chute so he can't see beyond what's in front of him, removing obstructions from the floor, and using flags humanely drive the animal forward.
Incorporating such reforms eases animal suffering, not consumer conscience.
Should we deprive an animal protection from brutalization by a worker because those on the fence might perceive his handling as "humane"?
PETA constantly campaigns for welfare reforms that will do nothing but make animal exploitation more efficient and profitable for exploiters.
THey oppose No-Kill movement and have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of healthy nonhumans that have come under its control, choosing to spend its millions on such projects as running naked with the bulls in Spain, rather than providing care for those animals and putting resources into an aggressive adoption program.
10 billion animals are brutally slaughtered every year. Supporting reforms that lessen their suffering can hardly be characterized as making animal exploitation profitable.
Veganism is a lifestyle based on moral principles, and WILL exist regardless of how little effect it has on the multi-billion dollar per year industry and regardless of who denies or how many people deny that animals have a basic moral right to life.
We are making strides. 1 in 200 children are vegetarian!
PETA doesn't oppose no-kill shelters, but merely addresses the misconceptions of such places: namely, no-kill shelters do NOT have an open admission policy, and this is because they, too, are overwhelmed with abandoned animals.
70,000 homeless puppies and kittens are born EVERY day, and while they are born, so, too, will 27,473 U.S. shelter animals meet their miserable end, most gassed to death in metal boxes.
Humanely housing, caring for and adopting out these numbers is impossible.
CAK reduces stress to birds during slaughter, BUT increases productivity for the exploiters right?
Birds will still be bred and confined until they grow big enough for slaughter. They will still be handled careless by workers when they're loaded to the truck.
I will call a victory the day KFC runs out of business. Not the day they still exploit and murder birds by the millions. Even if they kill the birds "nicer".
PETA are realists, and the reality is that for hundreds of millions, eating the flesh of an animal, whether he was brutally or "humanely" slaughtered, is simply not going to be perceived as repugnant--no matter how many films document the inherent cruelty of animal slaughter.
While we continue to vigorously promote veganism, we should also do everything we can to lessen an animal's suffering, even if it is in the last moments of his life, which is what PETA does.
They are not realists, they promote Singer as an "animal rights" theorist, when Singer explicitly rejects animal rights, promotes being a "conscientious omnivore" as morally defensible, and regards eating meat and animal products as a "luxury" in which we may indulge.
The worst thing is, people perceive animal rights is what Peta is about. And they're not. They're about animal welfare and easing consumers consciences.
How dare you come here and lie about Peta. There is absolutely not a word of thruth in what you say and Petas dedication to animal rights and vegan diets is VERY clear in their actions and on their homepage. You are deliberately manipulating and are NO help to animals. I doubt you have ever read Peter Singer.
Singer address the distinction made between factory and family-farmed conditions. He explicitly states that because inflicting pain is inherent in factory farming, and that because such factories monopolize the industry, the practical solution is to adopt a vegan diet.
Singer does not endorse the views of the "conscientious omnivore," but merely explains them. Such a consumer is one who contends that eating the egg of a family-farmed, free-range hen is morally defensible.
I'm vegan, but I still think we should all try and get CAK in action. The whole world wont go vegetarian, for the same reason that they wont all stop smoking, it's based on choice.
