  • at least she kept her toes pointed..

  • Man, her legs are GLUED together. Nice.

  • She for sure had an sensational butt

  • I've never seen that first skilled performed before... :s

    It's pretty cool, though. (:

  • Smart landing

  • What is the name of the skill she fell on? I haven't seen that done before.

  • @dewhite001 It's called a Def-a Gienger with an extra full twist. For gymnasts who do it nowadays, look at Youna Dufournet or Elisabeth Seitz.

  • @gymmfreaky ikr!! This happened to me (not the exact thing) and it hurt like crap!!!! I basically fell all weird and ended up with a bad sprained ankle. Was out for like 3 months :(

  • that happend to me once / : it suckedd

  • She actually fell how you're supposed too --- gymnasts are taught to fall like that if something happens.

  • there will be a deduction on the landing

  • @CaptainRandus no way

  • bad exit -10 points

  • she didint have grips

  • wow. she was so out of the form from thes start, i am glad that she finished.

  • i used to get taught by her...shes kinda mean lol but i guess u hav to b u kno?

  • That's not it at all. She was so over-rotated (bad form doesn't help here) that she couldn't get a hold of the bar. Grips have nothing to do with the technical error she made here.

  • she should use grips your right but she didn't put her hands on the bar.

  • Rough looking at first, but she actually had good falling technique. She didn't hit anything stiffly or fall on her hands, was kind of able to turn and fall on her back. The wild legs make it look scary.

  • @vesperholly i wish i could fall so perfectly

  • if she did that release move right it would look realy good.

  • I thought it was a full twisting geinger....

  • no, a 1 1/1, its called a def.

  • ok, sorry it looked kind of like a geinger at first glance......

  • lol no, its totally fine dont worry about it. youre right: it actually IS a geinger, it just has one more added twist (1 1/2 not 1 1/1 like i accidentally said below.

so your right. it is a type of geinger.

  • You're both right, it is a type of gienger, but it's called a def, its a gienger with an extra full twist

  • if you read the ENTIRE disscussition between us, youd know i said def. so i know whats its called, thank you very much

  • @gymnast768 hey calm down. I know, I did read the entire conversation I was saying how you're both right, you said its called a def, she said its a gienger with a full twist, you're both right, thats all i was saying

  • look at all the chalk dusted from the fall ouwch :( i had a bad one like that yesterday too haha

  • wie is de man achter deze stem? hij doet al jaren de commentaar in het turnen, maar maakt de ene fout na de andere!

  • What's the difference between: Def - Hristakieva?

I thought she tried to perform a Hristakieva |:

  • Its the same thing just Hristakieva was the first women to do it.

  • that is what you call courage!

  • that is a G element!

  • What a trooper! It's got to take a lot of courage to get back up there after a bad fall.

  • Oh, wat iz dat?

  • Tough fall, but it coulda been so much worse. She didn't land on the bar and took most of the impact on her back.

  • Si ella no le hubiera errado al soltarse habría sido Historia. Definitivamente.

  • omg i got scared because it looked like she was going to land on her head!! shes a tough little camper to get up like that. poor poor girl.

  • at least she landed with her back,,thats lucky,,,,

  • muyy buena rutina lastima x la falla que tubo es de las pocas gimnastas que se atreven a hacer elementos de alto nivel en la barras.

  • Piskun's deltchev is probably my favorite release skill ever on UB. It's amazing she walked away from that fall on the def. She was an extremely tough competitor!

  • Yay! I whole-heartedly agree (the only release that comes close for me is Ma's Jaeger from 89 Worlds).

  • woah, she was lucky though, that could have been a lot worse!

  • Guts Plus continuing after that sort of fall. Most normal people would not even know which way was up!! Good on her

  • Piskun is one of the ONLY women to ever attempt a Def on UB. Show some respect. No Chinese woman has ever competed that skill, so insinuating that a CHN gymnast could teach Piskun how to swing that move is laughable.

  • it is indeed laughable. Perhaps he does or IT doesn't know that Chinese are built differently that's why they have their own style. Yelena is also built differently. and INDEED, I have never seen a CHINESE woman ever attempt a Def. That will be the day.

  • What is your problem?

AND OBVIOUSLY PISKUN DIDN'T POST THIS.

You're an idiot, and a mean one at that.

  • I'm going to keep posting so your comment gets off the front page. Such a disgusting remark doesn't need to be NEAR the words Piskun.

  • respect for you Elena Piskun's!!!!

  • wtf! he can repeat anyw!

  • thats painful, she must have a crack in her bottom now, oh yeah everyone has a crack in their bottom, sorry. :c

  • she is so fuckin amazing, u have to notice her split second timing,,a mind like a steel trap that one.

  • holy crap! her hands!!! how is she not wearing grips?!

  • they wore such... 'unsightly' leos.

    ughhhh...

  • she's lucky she didnt clip her feet on the high bar, she narrowly missed doing that and that would have almost certainly meant landing on her head!

  • damn it she just contues.. sick i dont like that spirit too much of the good

  • WTF I really hope you're joking...that's disgusting you perv!

  • omg ew seriously ur disgusting! perv!!

  • Has she stretched her arms out, it was an easy ctach.

  • it wouldnt have been easy actually to stretch her arms out and catch the bar. even if she did she would hav esevere whiplash and end up with a back injury, but she's okay at least thats good

  • well coming from a person who is training the skill, i think i know what im talking about....

  • it's seems that simple but it's not so easy when ur the one doing the skill and crashing

  • She was over-rotated and could not catch the bar. It looked as though she thought she let go too close and piked her body to avoid hitting the bar with her feet/legs. She's a tough cookie, that's for sure, and won a much-deserved bar title in 1996.

  • She was over-rotated - she'd not have caught the bar.

  • To the guy who who wants to call someone a bad name for not knowing a skill. It's not a "deaf", it's spelt "def", and it wasn't even a def at all. It was a full twisting deltchev. :-)

  • It was actually meant to be a Def. She used to have a Def and a Deltchev in her bars routine. A Def is a Geinger with a 1.5 twist.

  • Deff is actually Gienger with 1/1 twist, because Gienger itself has ½twists in it

  • it looks likes she did a flip to save her self

  • Surely to goodness, gymnasts are NEVER taught to land on their backs when they fall??!?!!!!!! They could be paralysed for life!!!!!

  • are you kidding?

  • land on her back. How could she land on her back from that angle. The bars are not up on five meters height and she's not a cat for goodness sake. There is no time to land on your back.

And it was a Def (full twisting gienger).

  • It looked like she turned on purpose to avoid a face full of mat. Watch the slow motion again, she stops twisting to catch the bar, misses, then pulls her shoulder over again to land on her back. Because she landed flat on it, it was probably safer than going face first because you instinctively put your arms out in from of you and that can cause all sorts of fracture-related trouble.

  • better to land on their back than their head...

  • Elena Piskun is a great gymnast who always showed a lot of courage and resilience. She was world champion on UB (1996) and HV (1993). She was seriously underscored and undermined at the 1996 Olympics where her performances were better than the scores indicated.

  • that wasn't a geinger doofus, that was a deaf. that is a 1.5 twisting geinger. dumbo

  • She has bad knee form.

  • i think it was just coz she was really nervus and shaken from the fall

  • ginger!

  • She was very experienced!!! She knew how to fall and what NOT to do...

She fell on her back and did NOT try to put her hands on the floor (she'd've broken them!!!)

    Good girl!!!

  • Why do you want to fall on your back?

  • Your chances of breaking something are far greater landing on your stomach (hands and legs/feet). On your back, you can round it a little and it's the strongest/safest position the body can be in. Pretty much every high level gymnast is taught how to fall on every skill they learn.
