Damn, Africa's fucked! IF you find water, its usually dirty. Aids is EVERYWHERE! Theres hardly any food hence, there underweight countries. Crime is high as hell with armies. Glad to be American is all I can think of.
To everybody saying 'ooh aah save the worm' consider this: It's a parasite. An extremely specialized parasite. It does nothing for the small water creatures the larvae live in, and it does nothing for the people it torments. Parasitism such as this leads to devolution to the point where an organism is nothing more than an extension to it's life cycle. Save the worm my ass. Anybody who thinks I'm wrong can host the parasite to sustain it's existence.

the Guinea Worm is not a disease microbe, but a living animal. It has a nervous system. Its hearts pump blood through its small body. It experiences pain. And for thousands, perhaps millions of years, it has inhabited the earth unmolested. Until human hubris threatened its very future.
@patpernet He has a point though. You cannot completely eradicate it as it may have some unknown medical value. At least a few must be preserved in labs. Did you maggots can be used to treat wounds infected with anti-biotics resistant bacteria or some snake venom are used to treat heart diseases?
@Rundstedt19 Yeah, why don't you say that to the thousands of Africans who suffer in unbelievable agony each year. The ironic thing is that the Guinea worm relies on us and causes immense pain that can kill people due to the infections it often creates.
@Rundstedt19 I think you may be confused; I have not completely watched the video, but at a glance, I believe they are calling for an eradication of the DISEASE, not the parasite.
Furthermore, the word "parasite", is not meant to vilify. It is a scientific term used to classify specific species and their members, I.E: parasites are any organisms in which, their only means of survival, are at the expense of a host. That is all.
@Rundstedt19 "for thousands, perhaps millions of years, it has inhabited the earth unmolested". Where the hell did you get this shit out? It has evolved millions of years to leech life from other organisms and now fount its newest host - the "human hubris threatening its existence". If you really want, let it survive this worm genocide inside you!
@SpaceCommand03 so your a guinea worm sympathizer? Why? Do you have a pet tape worm that you play fetch with? I don't get why your so offended? by the content of this video. If you had one of those things in your leg causing open ulcers and causing pain to you your comment wouldn't be the same.
Interaction with Guinea Worms is linked with painful health complaints among many people in the developing world. Certainly those people deserve a better life. Yet armed with this justification, "health" officials in the Cartel hatched a plan to bring about the most short-sighted option possible -- the complete elimination of a living species from the planet.
The Guinea Worm eradication cannot be compared to campaigns against small pox or polio for one simple reason:
The Guinea Worm Destruction Cartel claims to have the best interests of humankind at their heart. Like all members of a functioning ecosystem, the Guinea Worm interacts with other members of the ecosystem to complete its life-cycle. Yet because the Guinea Worm is unlucky enough to rely upon humanity for its self preservation, it is branded a "parasite" and targeted for destruction. At first, this approach seems to make sense from a health standpoint.

presadent Carter has a worthwile campeign to try and help the cause of many different environmental policies, and is a caring humanitarian. maybe u should pay closer attention to the world around you
harmlesshampster, you must be very, very young; too young to know that Jimmy Carter is the very successful spokesman for Habitat for Humanity, and is responsible for it's, and many other worthwhile charities, international success. Read a book little fellow.
I think that the US government must focus totally in this problems in Africa to recover credibility and leave the Irak people reconstruct their homeland.
Thanks Carter, you are God in human form.
