Hmm i never heard of brown ballast, and all I can find of woodland scenics turf is the brown shades heh. Oh well, I guess it's almost the same =D

It's slang for the gravel they use to level train tracks:)

It's just a gravel version of flock....

Small clumping-granule kitty litter will work just as good...

I bought both at a model-train shop...

And they carry it at Hobby Lobby stores:)

Brown Ballast...and green turf:)

It's pretty cheap compared to other comparable products:)

I like the overall piece but I'm not really into the fantasy green water.

I think it would have been more realistic if you went for a brown-ish colour since there's dirt all around the water.
