Great band, great guys. I was lucky enough to get drunk one night with RC at The Party Place in Denver right before he left for LA and got famous. What memories!
I played The Rainbow And The Rose on My Radio Show last Sunday. 1:00 am to 2:30 am on The Root Of All Evil K.F.A.I. 90.3 FM Mpls, 106.7 ST Paul. The Root is a Hardcore metal show that runs from 1:00 am to 6:00 am Sunday mornings.kfai.org. The Root guys bring me on every other month to play a GLAM ROCK show called "Rock Star Galaxy".
Wow. This band was legendary- life stopped when they came to Nebraska- Fireside Inn and what was that place in west Lincoln, oh yea The Grove. My buddy has Wumblie Audio- a commercial sound contractor. Remember the band every time I get his voice mail. The best unsigned band ever.
I was a roadie for them on this road trip we were with AME booking agency out of Denver, I was a floorman / bartender at Mr Luckys and they were playing there before leaving on a long road trip and they needed a roadie for the tour so I joined up and lived at the Wumblie house for a few months. I want to see more of this show !!! Was this the night of Davey Vomit and the Zipperheads for the last set of the night ?
OH MY goodness!!!! Looking at the comments below...I didn't realize that they weren't Wichita locals! Dang! If I'd known they were, like, famous all over the country I mighta, maybe rethought my no-touch policy when my girlfriend and I took the drummer and bass player home one night! Poor guys...they wound up so disappointed, I'm sure! :)
Holy fucking owl shit! I just found this. I was a Wumblies disciple! I am from Denver but lived in Cheyenne, Wyo for a few. I first saw the Wumblies at a club in cheyenne called The Electric Company - must have been 1976. I think they still lived in Alburquerqe then. Blew me away. First bar band I ever saw to bring massive amounts of PA. I moved back to Denver and used to see them all the time at Mr. Lucky's. Best songs: Hollywood Hicks and Rock The City.
Wumblies, Kid Sister, Hardly Small, Ghost Rose, OverEasy, Strawbs, Offenders, Bone Angels etc..I have bits and pieces of all these bands & more! Great bands! More stuff soon...
@dhpcabresto remember all those bands. How about 'Heaven and Earth', 'Baby; 'Freedom Express', 'White Wing' and a Nebraska favorite 'Blackberry Winter'. Thanks for the memories and God Bless.
Ahh, The Wumblies. I saw them numerous times at Choo Choo's in Tucson. I'm thinking it was 1980/1981? Everyone loved them. Stairway to Heaven comes to mind. A great band to be sure. Would love to see more footage.
My crew and I filmed this on Dec 15th 1978 on a very cold Friday night. If you recall Wumblies used a parachute as a back drop above the stage with lights mounted behind it for effects from 1976 thru 77. With that in mind this footage could not have occurred a year earlier.
20 years later Dave Martin was Playing (the guitar in DR. suit) was playing with me and my brothers band I HATE LUCY in Los angelas My Brother John Kunkel passed away Dec 15 1993 as did the band..... two killer drummers god must have needed rest in peace Randy and John
Was that the band that also had a member of Iron Butterfly? I ran across Dave Martin unloading equipment at Club Lingerie in Hollywood; I'm thinkin' 1992, he put me as his guest for the gig that night but, I was late arriving and just missed the set...I was only in town for a short period, working with The Cure Tour, and never caught up with him again.
And for all you Randy Castillo / Wumblies FREAKS...Stay Tuned I've got my own Wumblies raw footage coming soon. Plus watch for the release of Randy Castillo's Roc-Doc : Uncommon Passage, in the works.
The loss of The Wumblies is a textbook example of 70's music industry mismanagement and what difficulties a band really goes through to get signed and be heard, especially in that era. In todays market given the resources I believe they would still be huge. But tragically instead those of us that were lucky enough to witness "The Wumblies" will forever have that sound etched in our memory; Randy Castillo, forever rest in peace, YOU have been an inspiration to us all.
Wow. I saw the Wumblies play so many times at the Stage Door that I cant keep count. I was also there the night at 'Central Station' when they blew the power. I know that Randy died on 9/11, what happened to the rest? They were all so talented. Are you going to put up more? I would love to hear their version of Round n Round by the Strawbs. I rated you first 5 stars! Check out my vids.
OMG just freaked me out!! These guys rocked back in the day, and had some great tunes. It was 1978 in Denver. Godfathers, Mr. Luckys, hahaha!!! Randy Castillo played for Lita Ford, Ozzy, and was with Motley Crue!! Thanks for the blast from my past.
Davey Vomit & The Kamikazee Pachukos, or something like that, rock and roll ain"t ever gonna die and here is proof. RIP, NOT!

That was December 1977, not 1978. I was there. This was filmed from Mark Russo's board at the Stagedoor Inn.
Do you have any more? All my movies got lost over the years. I had some great ones.
Remember Davy Vomit?

I have six original tracks from a 1977(?) Wumblies demo Randy gave me. Audio only, so not really something for youtube, I guess.
