You do realize Top Gear US did a mileage contest driving the entire length of the I-5 southbound with a Prius vs. a Corvette Zo6 and the Z06 had BETTER fuel economy. The Prius was huffing and puffing on the highway. The Z06 was cruising barely breathing.

If the Prius got 20mpg better then I might see you point. But this difference is not big and maybe these car nuts have other things to be concerned about like the 'fun' factor, which Honda did not copy obviously.

Honda knocked off Toyota's Prius. They tried to save $1,000 by cutting corners but in the long run the savings is not worth it. The Prius gets better mpg, more advanced technology, and is better equiped in standard trim.

I checked out one guys profile and found that he had 14 videos saved as his favorites, 13 of them were hybrid (Prius) vidoes. One video was some Asian girl. Every week he would go to those hybrid videos just so he could be negative and hate. KC9PBI does the same thing.

I personally got the Insight. Although the Prius has more space, I really didn't need it. When we're travelling with dogs and a baby I opt for taking the SUV.
And as far as MPG goes, I consistently get between 45-51 mpg on the Insight. Buying the Prius over the insight solely based on a little better mpg makes literally no sense.
This Insight wasn't out when my wife got her 2007 Prius. I like Honda, I own a 2006 RL and have owned 3 TL's, but after driving her Prius, I was shocked to see all the features they put in it. It has everything and the new one has even more. As for the mileage, over the last 6,000 miles, she got 54.7 mpg. She doesn't even try, because she doesn't care about mpg's. The part that makes since to her is spending only $20 to drive 500 miles. If she had the new one, she would get around 60mpg

You should have done a comparison between the 2010 Prius, not a Prius from the second generation. No comparison between the 2010 Prius and the Honda Insight. I have package IV.

People who are saying that the insight shouldn't even be compared to the prius probably didn't even watch the video. The only reason you're saying that is because you probably own one and that you're too scared of the insight. The fact that the prius actually has a competitor now. Can't we get along somehow? The honda may not be as fuel efficent, but it's definetly not nearly as confusing to operate.

Since you own a Cavalier and not a Prius, I will tell you what it means. To fill a 2007 Prius only takes 9.5 gallons. With that 9.5 gallons you can drive 500 miles. The New 2010 Prius can drive even further with the same amount of gas. Your Cavalier doesn't cost the same as the Prius to fill. The Prius has an 11.5 gallon tank, but you never put more then 9.5 gallons in it. Your Cavalier takes more then 12 gallons to fill it and even with more gas, can't go nearly as far as the Prius.
2004 Cavalier cost like $2,500. If you don't have the money, then yeah go buy the cheapest car you can find. Why stop there, go get a 1998 Cavalier for like $400. The Prius is not a cheap car. It has every feature ever put in a car it's size or price. It has a smooth ride and is the quietest car on the road. It also has every safety feature that you can think of and more. People like you think the only thing it has to offer is the best mpg, but there's a lot more to the Prius then 50mpg.

you don't know me or how i think. i drove a prius, and it drives like crap. more steering wheel play than an old american car, shakes horrible when the electric motor kicks on, only quiet when the motor is off. display is in such a bad spot for driving. i don't see how this car is safe if you can't even feel safe with how it handles. my cav rides so much better than a prius. the insight rides better, but main complaint there is no passing power. no passing power also makes the car unsafe.

you should care. the prius is an overrated, overpriced car. less than 1 mile EV mode, no plug in capability. non impressive MPG. 1982 Camaro 4cyl, 40 MPG, Honda CRX HF 50 MPG, Chevy volt-40miles on battery(39 more than prius) plus a plug in feature. honda has the Clarity which if more states catch on will end the prius. toyota is playing you all like fools! their cars used to be good, now they're just cheaply built rentals with high price tags.

I knew the Cavalier was a POS, but some people feel having the cheapest POS on the road trumps the need to have a Prius. I went that route with my first car, which was a Cavalier. Now mind you this is a true story, and is one of the many reasons I will never buy an American car again. Before my Cavalier even hit 40,000 miles the shocks, ECU and stark plugs & wires needed to be replaced. Plus water would leaked in some how when it rained throw the firewall and 1/4 of the paint peeled away.

I like swerving in front of people that try to blow by me on the freeway and watching them plant the japanese piece of shit into the concrete filled steel bumper on my pickup truck. So far, I've taken out 2 hondas, 2 toyotas, and an audi, all of whom were going in excess of 100 mph.

Shows how much you know. A 1996 Acura 3.2TL with only 214hp has a top speed of 144 mph. The 2006 Acura RL SH-AWD with 290hp has a top speed of 156. It's really not that big of a deal to go that fast anymore.

I did a test drive last week in both cars ... despite this video gives most credits to the Insight, it (purposely or by accident) forgets one thing: on the highway (120 km/hr), driving an Insight makes very much noise, comparing a reasonable quiet Prius. If you drive mainly inside towns and want to save money, buy an Insight, otherwise go for the Prius. Also the Prius uses much better quality materials.

Biased much Insideline? The Prius gets 3mpg BETTER than the Insight. That's not "barely".
Honda's hybrid system is archaic compared to Toyota's. The gas engine is always on in the Insight. The Prius allows one to convert it to full electric, sorry Honda.
I love it how the "inventor" of the hybrid blatantly COPIED the Prius' shape, used cheap materials so it can be sold $1,000 less at best.
Despite the Prius' risk of running into a wall, it'll still OUTSELL the Insight. Sorry Honduh

There is nothing "fun" about driving a Honda hybrid or a Prius. If you want a car that's "fun" to, I wouldn't drive a castrated car called a hybrid.
Honda knocked off Toyota's Prius. They tried to save $1,000 by cutting corners but in the long run the savings is not worth it. The Prius gets better mpg, more advanced technology, and is better equiped in standard trim.

Prius looks dorky to me...... Let's see if Toyota can Beat Honda in Hybrid Sports Car, Honda CR-Z. And Toyota doesn't have Fuel Cell car like FCX. Honda teach the driver how to drive economically with econ mode, and the Toyota helps the driver to get as low fuel cost as possible. Imagine if Toyota and Honda Hybrid Co-operate. It'll be the King of Cars. Overall, they both very good cars.

The Prius is a full hybrid, and can run only on the electric engine. The Insight is only a half-hybrid and CANT run on the electric engine entirely. But the Insight looks cheep inside, the Prius dont. And a Toyota is a Toyota, it never breaks!

Don't get me wrong, I care about the environment very much, however I love driving cars...and driving cars that are FUN to drive.

Although a little outdated on the Prius, good video. The numbers on the new Prius aren't THAT different.
I personally got the Insight. Although the Prius has more space, I really didn't need it. When we're travelling with dogs and a baby I opt for taking the SUV.
And as far as MPG goes, I consistently get between 45-51 mpg on the Insight. Buying the Prius over the insight solely based on a little better mpg makes literally no sense.

This Insight wasn't out when my wife got her 2007 Prius. I like Honda, I own a 2006 RL and have owned 3 TL's, but after driving her Prius, I was shocked to see all the features they put in it. It has everything and the new one has even more. As for the mileage, over the last 6,000 miles, she got 54.7 mpg. She doesn't even try, because she doesn't care about mpg's. The part that makes since to her is spending only $20 to drive 500 miles. If she had the new one, she would get around 60mpg

People who are saying that the insight shouldn't even be compared to the prius probably didn't even watch the video. The only reason you're saying that is because you probably own one and that you're too scared of the insight. The fact that the prius actually has a competitor now. Can't we get along somehow? The honda may not be as fuel efficent, but it's definetly not nearly as confusing to operate.

From what I can tell... The Prius is a love it, hate it car. Those who have it, never have to worry about the price of gas again. They can just smile when they go to fill ($25) it up. They also know about the features that it has, that nobody ever talks about. It's got features that not even the best Acura's (Honda) have. Since you own a Cavalier and not a Prius, I will tell you what it means. To fill a 2007 Prius only takes 9.5 gallons. With that 9.5 gallons you can drive 500 miles. The New 2010 Prius can drive even further with the same amount of gas. Your Cavalier doesn't cost the same as the Prius to fill. The Prius has an 11.5 gallon tank, but you never put more then 9.5 gallons in it. Your Cavalier takes more then 12 gallons to fill it and even with more gas, can't go nearly as far as the Prius.

2004 Cavalier cost like $2,500. If you don't have the money, then yeah go buy the cheapest car you can find. Why stop there, go get a 1998 Cavalier for like $400. The Prius is not a cheap car. It has every feature ever put in a car it's size or price. It has a smooth ride and is the quietest car on the road. It also has every safety feature that you can think of and more. People like you think the only thing it has to offer is the best mpg, but there's a lot more to the Prius then 50mpg.

you don't know me or how i think. i drove a prius, and it drives like crap. more steering wheel play than an old american car, shakes horrible when the electric motor kicks on, only quiet when the motor is off. display is in such a bad spot for driving. i don't see how this car is safe if you can't even feel safe with how it handles. my cav rides so much better than a prius. the insight rides better, but main complaint there is no passing power. no passing power also makes the car unsafe.

you should care. the prius is an overrated, overpriced car. less than 1 mile EV mode, no plug in capability. non impressive MPG. 1982 Camaro 4cyl, 40 MPG, Honda CRX HF 50 MPG, Chevy volt-40miles on battery(39 more than prius) plus a plug in feature. honda has the Clarity which if more states catch on will end the prius. toyota is playing you all like fools! their cars used to be good, now they're just cheaply built rentals with high price tags.

I knew the Cavalier was a POS, but some people feel having the cheapest POS on the road trumps the need to have a Prius. I went that route with my first car, which was a Cavalier. Now mind you this is a true story, and is one of the many reasons I will never buy an American car again. Before my Cavalier even hit 40,000 miles the shocks, ECU and stark plugs & wires needed to be replaced. Plus water would leaked in some how when it rained throw the firewall and 1/4 of the paint peeled away.

Shows how much you know. A 1996 Acura 3.2TL with only 214hp has a top speed of 144 mph. The 2006 Acura RL SH-AWD with 290hp has a top speed of 156. It's really not that big of a deal to go that fast anymore.

You are telling someone that owns and has driven these cars to their limits for more then 13 years that he is wrong when you are just guessing and have not driven the RL to it's limits.
That's something a kid would do. I could careless if you believe me or not, but you keep pushing like a child would do. Children never know when to quit and they are never wrong, even if they don't really know the answer they are still never wrong.

Yeah, but it hasn't stopped Toyota from selling over 1.5 million of them. They can piss on it all they want, but the new one just came out and they have orders of over 120,000 of them already. I hope the haters never buy one of these cars. Let them feed Saudi Arabia. The haters will never no the joy of driving 500+ miles for only $20. They seem to love going 300 miles for $40. Saudi Arabia loves people who hate the Prius.

I did a test drive last week in both cars ... despite this video gives most credits to the Insight, it (purposely or by accident) forgets one thing: on the highway (120 km/hr), driving an Insight makes very much noise, comparing a reasonable quiet Prius. If you drive mainly inside towns and want to save money, buy an Insight, otherwise go for the Prius. Also the Prius uses much better quality materials.

The EPA ratings are a useful tool for comparing the fuel economies of different vehicles but may not accurately predict the average MPG you will get.
When you own one of these cars, you no longer care how much gas is.
