My 2002 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 31'' tires and a 3'' lift still gets better gas milage than a brand new 2011 Toyota Tacoma, and with my cold air intake I have better horsepower and torque as well. Newer doesnt always mean better, im sure cash for clunkers blew more polluted smoke into the air than if they would of just gave the cars a chance and sold them to underprivledged people and new drivers looking for a decent ride
I would of gladly paid more than 4500 for this truck. Cash for clunkers accomplished nothing. Some cars that were sold in cash for clunkers needed to go, but the majority were 10 years old or newer and had lots of life and looked really nice. What a waste!

Way to go Obama. You created a program that ruined thousands of good vehicles that many poor and underprivileged families could have used. How hard would it have been to do this program so that those who were close to getting a new vehicle could, then sell all the "clunkers" at lower than blue book value so that many families who couldn't have afforded a vehicle would be able to get one. Selling these vehicles would have helped cover the cost of the program and stimulated the economy.
I could not agree more, the waste of it really pissed me off. Massachusetts has a program for getting people on welfare that want to work but have no transportation. The cars are donated, with a tax credit given. Then they are fixed up and given under strict conditions to people that need a vehicle. State pays for the maint, and insurance. The program breaks even, but the value of getting someone to work for a living is very very high.
i bet most cars in the cash for clunkers program had a better life expectancy than the cars that they replaced, and that is very hard to watch this shit so lets not show any more of these, i could have droped that V10 out and rebuilt it and put it into a dif truck and gotten another 200,000 out of it. the modern age of cars is take it to 100,000 and junk it thats just sad, ive got a 2000 F150 with 198,000 on it still running strong, its the new cars i would throw away ther is no replace parts.

If i was in charge i would have had it be 175K+ miles, or if the vehicle was no longer road worthy, or if were 20 years or older. People were bringing in Hemi cars - 300Cs, Chargers, Jeeps, etc - some of them no older than 2 years. I even heard of some incredibly rare cars (Buick Regal Grand National GNX) being brought in.
The horrible part is that the cars HAD to be killed and stripped to the frames.

i guess the epa looked the other way for all of the dealers making a mess(coolant,oil, fuel) we might as well of kept on driving these cars. I brought my 95 bronco with the 351W to the emmisions place, and it gave a reading of 0.00029 ppm, of course the mpgs arent great but with 225000 miles on stock motor and catalytic converters shes doin alright!!!!

I have a f250 with a v10 and it's a freaking good truck without paying extra for a diesel. It produces the same power and torque as it's diesel brother but sadly not as good mileage.

@10httrquitr And the real horror story of Cash for Clunkers is that some of the cars coming into the dealerships to be killed weren't even 5 years old. People were bringing in Hemi cars - 300Cs, Chargers, Jeeps, etc - some of them no older than 2 years. I even heard of some incredibly rare cars (Buick Regal Grand National GNX) being brought in.
The horrible part is that the cars HAD to be killed and stripped to the frames.
