At last we have someone with class, a far stretch from the sleaze that comes out of Hollywood. This is great for women, but better for who she reprensents and what she's accomplished in the art world. A true visual artists with an MFA from Columbia U. and fellowship from the Witney Museum Painting program. A hard worker, who took no short cuts. And at 58, the prettiest girl in the room. We fell in love with Kathryn Bigalow.

i have worked on films...and many times...the directors dont do much...now the cinematographer or what they call the director of the photography does it all on set....i have seen major directors hardly say two words during an entire shoot...

BUT DIRECTORS GET ALL THE CREDIT...

give me a great cinematographer and and great script and a great editor..and i could direct the hurt locker...

BUT..no way could i or anyone else put together..avatar...

@StraightTwoDVD This isn't true, i've also worked on some films. I even got to watch the Coen bros direct A Serious Man. The director picks all the angles, controls the actors and even runs the camera at times, while the cinematographer generally lights the set. Every director has a different use for their cinematographer, some barely even use it and VERY RARLEY with inexperienced directors, they have them shoot the movie for them. Avatar is more great vfx artists then great directing.

Bigelow won because Hurt Locker was better than the 9 other movie in best category, and Hurt locker definitely had better story than Avatar which was awesome but recycled.

It's a milestone Oscar because she's a wonderful female director, but it's no token Oscar because she's female. She earned it because the her movie impressed the critics across the board, and I bet J. Cameron would also say that his ex earned her Oscar for her work and not her gender.

Saw The Hurt Locker tonight, and she was there and seemed VERY intelligent, and really artistic and cares about her work.

She always has a perfect answer to every question it seems.

AND...Hurt Locker was pretty much boosted into my Top 10 Favorite Movies of all time.
