How to fix a ps3 if it stops reading disks

@rjascott Don't waste your money. They make special recessed lens cleaners for PS3s but it's usually just good for maintenance. It doesn't remove the nasty film build-up that causes problems. You can try applying alcohol to the cleaning disc (fling excess off first if you try it), which works on XBox sometimes but other you've got about a 5% chance it fixes anything on a PS3. Translation: You don't know shit.

thats called safety menu, fat ps3s get ylod because of lead free soldering coming apart due to intense heat by the 90nm dies from both gpu and cpu but we all know GPU is the one that causes it as there is no square cutout for the heat to disipate! but on slim you might just get hdd failure which in that case rebuilding database might fix that problem!

Hello there mates, there's abortes way to fix this without losing any data !

You just have to download a demo from the PS store install it !

Then you put your disk inside the ps3

It won't show up so you just start your demo , then click the ps button and the disk should appear on the screen ! My playstation has this problem and you must use this procedure every time before playing a game ! Lots of my chaps have this problem and this worked fine every time ;b !

this is only if your firmware is no good, which happens sometimes after your PS3 downloads new updates. if your PS3 stops working after an update then it is the firmware and this will work, however if it is the laser that is burned out (which is a possibility), turn on the PS3 and put your ear right on top of the system, listen very closely for 3 faint clicks. If you hear those three faint clicks then your laser is shot. Otherwise, it's firmware and this will work.

I got that problem too just after i played mw3. i tried the only option that wouldnt delete any of my saves etc it was the 3rd one and it didnt fix anything (saw on another video) now im about to try option 4. hopefully it works. i just hate how saves arent all copiable because some are games im really far in but glad i bhought a 16gb usb key long time ago now its really helpful. if it doesnt work i'll either get a blu ray cleaner cd or just buy another one with more space.

i have a 160 gb ps3 slim, and it stopped reading any of my games last, so i tried some shit i saw on youtube, like vaccumming the back, but it didnt work, i cant take it apart, and hand clean it cause it will void my warranty, so i had to format my whole system, so hopefully that works. my ps3 would read cds, and regular dvds, but not blu ray games, or movies, so im guessing it has something to do with that. any suggestion if the format doesnt work?
