If the USPS would get rid of their on-line postage service, then people would have to return to their post office to mail packages.

And if the USPS would get rid of media mail, they would be able to get more money per package since letters are hardly a concern anymore. The competition these days are whose making the most money sending people's packages? Only the USPS is ignorant enough to keep such a profit losing service such as media mail. A business that stupid is hard to care about.

Yes, the business environment has changed for the USPS. But, you have to adapt. The Postal Service still has a monopoly on letters, that is huge. I think the USPS lost almost 5 billion in 2009, this is insane. Get with the times, do the following: Go to 401k or IRA'S-defined contribution plans, not defined benefits. Do like everyone else, get rid of the BS retiree health care obligation. Congress needs to let the Usps have more flexibilty in pricing, less losses on mail, price mail for profit.

It's the same situation all around the US. The Head Leaders in Washington are either grossely incompetent like most of the newly groomed managers or the system is being designed to fail on purpose. This guy talking is a part of the disinformation campain of bull. Volume down? How about the volume like Priority that is hugely up. We are now working with less people than 30 years ago with higher volume and somehow their not making money? Can't be the billions spent on machinery.

How can USA be the best, the richest country if it's postal service is Third World? My registered mail lost overseas and USPS hangs up on me refusing to reimburse me for the loss.... that is dishonest!

I work at a chicago station! The #1 worst station on the North side. The managers are terrible They lie about mail volume expect us carries to get back before 5 when they give us enough work that we cant get back til 6:30. People run the mail off to try to get dunn early so they dont get wrote up and that means shitty mail service, allot of miss deliveries. Fix management and that will fix everything. That will fix the post office. That will regain customers trust!

Our office in Spartanburg S.C. has 3 Delivery supervisors, 3 204b s, Dist. supervisor, a window spervisor, a Postmaster, and a postmasters assistant... We are splitting on average 2 or 3 routes a day, And we have a 5:00pm cut off. Paper work, Scan points, Rotten DPS, Call ins, and fake light duty. All these things take time and cost money. Carriers should be honest and stop looking for the easy way out. More truth means less supervision and more revenue...REPORT YOUR UNDERTIME!!!

Seriously I agree with everything here. Eleven years in Morgan Post Office in New York City is the biggest pork barrel Post Office of all. You wnat to be shocked by the mismanagement and over managed Post Office go there. These guys are ridiculous!!!!! So many managers and no one never takes responsibility jsut get relocated to antoehr location. Its a pathetic waste of wasted money.

Postal Management is made up of idiotic, lazy people who have faked injuries to get "light duty and eventually get supervisor positions. Upper Management people are turning window clerks into robotic jerks. The good people are NOT rewarded and they retire as soon as they are able to. Mediocrity and robotic personalities are rewarded. Innovative, caring, customer awareness employees have their hands tied. I have been one of two good employees being supervised by 4 managers for hours. they run aro

I agree, i work there for almost 11 years and so many employees there dont do no work whats so ever. get rid of these people and it survives 15 more years. Trust me I know.

You are so right. There are good workers and bosses but they get shafted everyday. I retired as soon as I could and I barely left with my sanity intact. Upper management Liars,phonies,asskissers and unable to do a simple job.

The post office is way to top heavy and the managers spend way to much time punching in numbers into there computers. It seems the worse employees become supervisors.I could go on and on. 80% labor cost is true but the last I checked 56.8 % was bargaining unit workers and the rest was managers that was in 2002 the work force has been reduced even more since then.Less workers but more managers think about that.

Don't forget all the lawyers and other administrative workers that sit around and get fat all day. Post office also hires per diem professionsals and waste money on private contractors that do nothing but create more work for themselves. Post office is a good example of why our country is broke. Cronyism and Corruption top down.

Don't just blame the unions.I work at an A O. We only need 2 supervisors.Well we have four. One supervisor is even staying at a nice hotel while she is here.She will be here for about a year.
