  • what tuning?

  • @Bufaloubill Please see my reply to the next comment for the tuning details.

  • @SteveRaiken hoho Sorry man Thanks!

    Great Job!

  • @Bufaloubill Thanks for your great feedback!

  • Guild Guitars forever.....i got a f4ce auditorium i think... something like that...by the way what key is this in?

    GREAT JOB!

  • @XtremeDudez It's great to hear from another Guild fan. I'm playing in open E tuning. You tune up your 3rd, 4th and 5th strings to the equivalent of an open position E major chord. This raised tuning produces that bright sound, along with the Guild and slide.

  • Nice slide work

  • @fngrpkn06 Thanks!

  • why did you sing.. i think it was better without singin'..

  • @197666Horror Thanks for the feedback!

  • Very nice, awesome!

  • @lighteningboy Thanks very much! I appreciate the feedback.

  • What kind of guitar is that?

  • @270Gmoney It's a Guild D55NT.

  • dude that's freaking amazing

  • @laxattack09 Thanks!!

  • AWESOME!

  • @Raikinlaw Thanks, Steve!

  • Nice work. What tuning are you using?

  • Thanks for the feedback. I'm using open E tuning: EBEG#BE. You tune up the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings to the equivalent of an open position E major chord.

  • god that guitar looks and sounds awsome, What is it?

the playing was pretty good too XD

  • Thanks. It's a Guild D55NT (for natural top). I use only D'Addario Custom Light EJ26 strings and a standard metal slide. I'm glad that you liked the playing as well.

  • I cant stop watching this. This made me drop all my metal playing stuff and learn to play slide for a while

  • I appreciate your wonderful comments. I wish you all the best on your slide guitar playing!

  • Great slide! You may be interested in checking out Steelhand Bill. He also plays an awesome slide and harp! Great musicians should always get acquainted :-)

  • I viewed one of his videos. He's a great slide guitar player! Thanks for the suggestion.

  • You'll enjoy it. I'm using open E on this song. If you want to try it, tune your guitar up to an open position E major chord. You could also tune it down to an open D position, using the same E chord position.

  • Beautiful ... just beautiful

  • Thanks so much for your feedback!

  • Beautiful sound. Reminds me when my great uncle played this song at my Great, Great Grandmothers funaral on the fiddle and his brother on the guitar, ive never cryed as much as i did at that moment.

  • I'm sorry that it reminded you of a sad event in your life. Maybe hearing the song again also made you remember some good times you enjoyed with your Great, Great Grandmother.

  • good stuff, made me feel like i was sitting at the crossroads down in mississippi. love your work.

  • This is one of the best pieces of feedback I've ever received. Thanks so much!

  • I liek how that guitar sounds. Is it just distorted or are those like exteeme gauge strings?

  • The guitar is not distorted. It was recorded naturally with the built-in microphone on a digital video camera. The strings are D'Addario EJ26 Custom Light Phosphor Bronze strings. I think the sound that you like is the combination of the guitar, strings, positioning of the metal slide and vibrato technique I use.

  • Hi -nice guitar -greetings from germany - winni

  • Thanks for the feedback!

  • The singing...ouch!

  • He plays well, but like me, he should not sing.

  • what tuning were you in?

  • It's in open E tuning. I tune the strings up to an open position E Major chord.

  • awesome...there is some heart and soul!!!what kind of slide do you use?

  • I use a standard metal slide, available at any good guitar store. I experimented with a glass slide for a while but I went back to metal. I find that I have better control and tone with a metal slide.

  • Good Stuff.. Hey, check out 'glass guitar pick' by Lambsbread

  • r u serious?

  • Guild guitars are amazing!

  • I agree. They are great sounding and wonderful to play, especially the older ones.

  • thats wonderful

  • Thanks. I appreciate the feedback!

  • that was impressive, right when I was getting into it, it was over. what tuning was that in? Open E?

  • Yes, it's in open E. I tune the guitar up to an open position E major chord.

  • so drunk, nice work

  • VERY nice! Reminds me that you don't really need a resonator to make good acoustic slide music.

  • Thanks for the great feedback.

  • that's impressive

  • Thanks for the nice comment!

  • nice work by the way, lets see some more :)

  • Thanks for asking! I have two other videos on YouTube. If you type Steve Raiken - Awesome Slide Guitar II in the YouTube seach window, you'll find an original slide tune, called "Larry's Blues." I also have a video of a non-slide, original guitar instrumental. If you enter Steve Raiken - Autumn Walk in the search window, you'll find it.

  • its nice but... awesome is something different.. its not that special

  • ok Nebraska, why don't you post a vid of your pickin skills for us to see ;)

  • are u tuned to open G?

  • No. I am tuned up to an open E: EBEG#BE. You can also tune down to this specific open D tuning: DADF#AD

  • if you wanna hear a great version of amazing grace, check out rod prices version (the guitarist in foghat)

  • I use the glass on my electric and brass with my resonator.

  • about glass slides: i have found that the darker the slide the better the sound. i have a number of slides, from clear glass on to a really dark green and the tone on my resonator improves with the darker slides.

  • Thanks for the suggestions about switching to a glass slide. I used a glass slide on an original composition on my new video on YouTube. Enter Awesome Slide Guitar II in the search window above.

    Your comments are welcome.

  • i love the neck of that guitar!!....the outline of it is nice..its similar to tony iommis jaydee neck

  • Thanks. It's a 1970 Guild D-55. The fingerboard has beautiful inlays. I have the action adjusted to quite a low level. The back of the neck is quite thin, like an electric guitar.

  • Great stuff, and yeah, I recommend a glass slide. The bigger the better.

I've got a metal and glass, and I prefer the sound of the glass when using acoustic.

  • That's a bit like saying use nylon strings rather than metal. They have their individual sounds. Glass produces a silky sound - metal is much more raw. Completely depends on what you're playing.

  • thanks man :)

  • WOW WAY GOOD i've only been playing for like 5 months and i just bang chords out i feel like i suck now

  • Curtis, I've been playing for 40 years. You never stop learning and growing as a guitar player. Be patient with your skills and you'll get there.

  • u should get a glass slide they sound less tiny but u did very well with one.

  • I never tried using a glass slide - always metal. I might pick one up and try it.

  • u should man it makes a cleaner sound.

  • a guild guitar..great player with awesome guitar, that makes that.thanks.

  • Thanks for the great feedback!

  • It's a very hard thing to do that stuf, but even harder to make it look that easy, Really great man! *Mesmorized*

  • Thanks so much for your kind words. I appreciate it.

  • Fantastic!! You make it look soooooooooo easy, but I know it isn't. Beautiful job!

  • Thanks so much for the great feedback! I appreciate it.

  • Thanks for the feedback.

I am playing it tuned up to an open E: EBEG#BE. If you want to play it tuned down to an open D and get the first three notes right, I suggest that you change your open D tuning slightly to: DADF#AD. Play the first three strings in order (3-2-1) and the opening notes will sound correct. The slide work will be similar to what I am doing, just moved down a whole step from open E to open D. Let me if it works for you.

  • Nice work mate.

I'm learning this song in DADAAD and I'm stuck on on the right hand pick style. Are you playing these strings in order? Third, second and first? for the intro?

  • awesome guitar

  • Thanks!

  • hi, what about the tune?

  • If you mean the tuning, it's in open E. Tune the A and D strings up a full step and the G string up a half step. You can also tune down to an open D, if you're worried about breaking strings, using the same method in the other direction.

  • Thats a lovely guitar...

  • Thanks. It's 1970 Guild D55. I bought it new at that time.

  • Steve Raiken's album, Waterfall, is now listed on iTunes! Fantastic!

I bought a copy for my digital collection. ;-)

  • Do you mean show the guitar part in tab notation? Sorry, I write all my guitar parts by ear and I don't use tab. I can explain the techniques a bit if you ask me what you want to know.

  • Can I get tabs or something?

  • woah he's good as

  • Great Sound :) Learn The Words before You Make a Fool out of Yourself Again :(

  • Thanks. Did you master the song?

  • That's atually pretty good, i'll be learning it in the morning... I must say that's a nice looking giutar too

  • ...awesome.

  • Tune your guitar to an open position E Major chord or tune it down to an open D, same fingering.

  • Open E.

  • wooowow thats totttaly a different style

  • very good

  • I love it

  • cool im going to learn that, but someone should stick a sock in your mouth

  • Great!

  • very very nice :D

  • i like his style ..really nice.
