ya know, I've had experience shooting bebe's at plastic bottles. The plastic seems to absorb then reflect the force that goes into it. If you ever redo the experiment, use Aluminum cans that you figure out how to seal. Aluminum actually lets the projectile rip through, but the explosion may not be satisfactory, as the entrance (and exit wound if present) are the only places for the container to release pressure, unlike balloons which rip upon pressure release, exerting pressure on all sides.
