No one has to marry a person of their own race, you can't help who you fall in love with, but, if your culture is important to you, being from the same race plays a huge roll. In the case of Armenians, because there are not too many of them and they are in danger of extinction, there is an unwritten rule that Armenians should maintain their heritage, thats where it comes from. At the end of the day, every person has to decide for themselves if it's worth maintaining their Armenian culture.

We did not emerge from the ground separated from other humans. The only reason we show more similarities than for instance with a Chinese is because of the geographical proximity. The main reason you see light Armenians is due to their paternal DNA being from Europe, where as their maternal DNA is from the east. This supports some historical accounts that state Armenians were formed when some European tribes colonized the Urartu whom were indigenous to the area. This is your classic scenario where a small dominant group takes over a larger inferior one and there is a language/culture replacement. Same thing happend when the nomadic Turks took over the native anatolians.

Thats highly unlikely, when you say we, as in Armenians, the oldest people that are associated to Armenians are the Urartu, its highly unlikely that the blond mutation developed in the Urartu over just 2000 years, thats too short of a time for the mutation to happen and increase in frequency. Plus, the blond gene is assumed to have originated 11,000 years ago, which is way before any sort of Urartu or Armenian identity.

Also, the fact that the large majority of Armenians today are darker in complexion, suggests that the Nordic part was extremely small. Don't forget that Armenia was under Russian rule for almost 200 years, starting with the Russian empire in the early 1800's and lasting till the end of the Soviet union. So naturally there has been intermarriage and mixing with Russians as well, there are even pure Russian villages in northern Armenia. Its not uncommon today to see Armenian men with Russian wifes, so a lot of the 15% your talking about is from Russain stock as well.
