ID should've hired this guy instead of Robert Prince for Doom. This is a lot better than looping midi tracks of Big Gun and No Remorse (The original songs are great though).
I made this account a few years ago and I don't use it at all anymore. If you want the music I'M the one who has it so send me a PM with your e-mail if you want it.
I've played all the Wolfenstein versions and I think the music piece here is the best. I wish it could've been included in the PS2 and Xbox versions of Return To Castle Wolfenstein!
When I tried the game they released for Windows i was a bit sad. Because i remember W3D Demo for Mac having both rockets and flamethrower if you were using cheats, I failed to get it either with or without cheats on windows...
Yes, but the PC version DOES have advantages of its own! Like the directional sprites (seeing guards from all angles giving you the opportunity to kill them with stealth)
If Wolf3d attempted to adopt an RTCW-style soundtrack, this would be the result. I know it's on Mac, but I meant that this goes well with keeping musical continuity with RTCW and Wolf09. =)
is there actually any reasonable reason why they did this up-n-down with their arms? guess their gun was installed in their chests anyway. was it a mutant-"sieg heil" to say hello to u?
d'oh? i only remember the ones with their up-n-down arms and they used machineguns 100%. they were extremely trigger happy and gave u almost no reaction time before fireing at u.
there was this supermutant boss, armed with butcher knifes, r u talking about him?
I always thought that maybe they had some tendons or something hooked up to the trigger of the gun and when they moved they're arms like that it would shoot the gun.
yeah. maybe the "real" reason i just that there is some obvious, recongnizable graphic so that u see that those guys are fireing at u. i like the trigger idea too.
got this on ps3 this game and still im wondering why they didnt bother making hd version smoother textures and music in real instruments would have done miracles but still like to play it even though the game causes me motion sickness
It was a very polished game - they took a lot of trouble cleaning it up as best they could for the Mac version, especially the music, intro and graphics.
Problem was, Wolfenstein was already at cult status by the time it was released, so I found it a bit odd the way they changed certain things...
You could only see one face of the enemies - why they did this baffled me. There was no blood (a little too PG). The handgun looked like a pea shooter...
From what I read, many ports (including this one) were based on the SNES code. I think it had to do with redrawing the textures/sprites in hi-res to show off the Mac's (then) sharper graphics, but they were too lazy to redraw them from all angles so they just went with the SNES-style forward-only enemies.
There was some blood tho, at least on corpses (see watch?v=V4iwpcgZpgI for gameplay).
Weird bonus fact: supposedly the Mac port was the only one with authentic German voices, read by Germans.
This was such a strange period for Apple/Macintosh. The number of PC games being ported at the time was so small, yet we had the capability of running everything the PC had at the time. It was frustrating.
I remember I couldn't believe walking into a shop and seeing the Wolf demo running on a mac. I was 13 - the attendant told me to come back with a 3.5" disk and kindly copied it over for me (not much internet in 1995!!!).
NICE!! this game started me on my what my friends called "3d game addiction" . HAHA i bought an old power mac just so i can play this game ( along with doom 2 )with the music again... the pc version music sucks for those two!! thanx 5 stars
While I think that Wolf3d for the PC had better gameplay (like rotating enemies so you can sneak up on them, being more loyal to the original Wolfenstein in that way) but it definately had better graphics and music. I'm definately going to be PMing you for these.
:D I love it :D
