yo i still have one of these boards, i'm 18 and i was 6 when i first started skating. when i was 6 my 1st baord was something like a santa cruz it was fuckin sick! i can backside flip on flat with those bastards! video coming out soon!
I've just started skateboarding and I'm going to old school like these guys. And it certainly isn't easier. I mean it takes some guts what these guys are doing
Got my shortboard last sunday. Today i had my first ever stack. Face planted into the grass through sticks and rough grass and was knocked out. Loved every minute of it hahaha
@sk8erboy730 yea he became pro for awhile but not long, he ended up started his own company and founded tony hawk and abunch of other famous skaters. you can watch the movie lords of dogtown, and there's also a documentary with all three of the big zboys in it and some of the less popular ones.
I'm 45 and just got back on the old board. It'll take a bit before I'm back up to speed but I haven't enjoyed myself so much in years as going to the local skateparks recently. I rock the old school pig decks and will never change to the modern board style because I don't like them. My boards are very fast, very quiet, and very smooth riding. I just wish Kryptonics was reissuing old school wheels now.
@CORRUPTsn1per All the power to you bro! It takes some real balls to pull a frontside Smith grind or rock & roll in the deep end of a pool or bowl! Also a huge high speed Bert slide on flat ground feels good too! I think vert skating will make a full come back like anything eles that's good.
Here's my 2 cents. I'm 41 and skate at a local concrete park with lots of mini tranny and street stuff and a good 9' deep bowl. If your watching this video because you were a skater back in the day...then get off your ass and buy a skate and let it rip! the weight will come off your fat ass and you can stop dreaming about "back in the day" We need more old school at the parks and I'm tired of kids lookin' at me funny!
@ozarkcacti I agree with you on that! I skated "back in the day", started skating again after watching Dogtown and Z Boyz, and at 49 am still enjoying myself immensely skating old school in the local skateparks.
Mind you, kids don't look at me ( or my old school "bros" ) funny, rather they look up to us and admire our lines.
@auldsk8r I'm glad to hear your back on the board bro! Well the kids looked at me funny at first, but that's because I'm the only older dude skating out here in hillbilly red neck coutry LOL. They are lucky if their dads come to pick them up with a beer in hand. They had never seen anyone pull off rock & rolls or a sweeper in the bowl until I moved down here from CA. Now some of the kids are working on rocks on the mini ramps! They also seem to dig the old school punk rock I skate to!
@andyboblomas Oh yeah, sure, maybe. Stacy is skating a brite yellow 10" wide G&S Warptail - not a even a Warptail II - with Tracker Trucks bolted on to two beams on the bottom of the skateboard with brite yellow 'Powell' double radial wheels or possibly G&S double radial wheels and wearing a brite orange Bones t-shirt with the Ripper on the back. Stacy was skating colored Bones wheels while riding his Warptail for G&S. You were a real hardcore skater back in the day and you never stopped right?
@andyboblomas Stacy's skating a bright yellow Powell-Peralta 'Beamer' with bright yellow Bones 'Brite-Lite' wheels in the video.
This is a great video to see. All of the skaters styles are so fluid. The slides kill me. I wouldn't know anything about so many of them if it wasn't for videos like this on YouTube. The Bert that Ayres does? I didn't know that they could be done so quick and fluid the way he does them in the video and he was so tall and burly. Got to see him skate the Combi-Pool.
@devongendreau Very True! The skateboarding was good but the story line was weak! I saw it in theatres and I remember thinking to myself "ummm Where is Jeff Ho!?!?" "Why isnt Stacy Peralta wearing a Zephyr shirt at the 75' Del Mar contest?!?!"
This is what pisses me off about Stacey Peralta. The guy tears it up but all he does now is make movies about skateboarding, why can't he just shut up, grab a board and......
beautiful, that's incredible how quickly skateboarding 'evolved' in just like 15 years to where 360 kickflips were the norm, huge handrails and stairs, not to mention vert tricks. hell, in 11 years they had H-Street from all of this. unreal.
Those half pipes are nuts too...no flat bottom. you dont think about it, but most vert/mini ramps have flat bottoms. riding one that doesnt really throws you off at first.
at 1:35 Stacys standing there like he's thinking to him self like, these guy's...doesn't get me as stoked as jay and tony! i wonder what there doing at the zephyr shop?
the sad thing is you just cant get away with skating like this now adays
