  • The pitch for Born this Way is jacked WAY up. I honestly don't hear the similarity between Born This Way at normal pitch and Express Yourself.

  • Why one or the other? They're both awesome songs. Although i don't like either performer as a person really.

  • when i wrote music, i ripped off everybody, it just shows that you're not that creative/too influenced by your idols. it sux. but it happens. it doesn't necessarily make the music bad. bob dylan stole riffs and lyrics and lines from poems. everyone does. i stole from johnny cash all the time, he was one of my biggest inspirations, cuz he said he stole music all the time too. who cares? music is just music.

  • It's a total rip off! When you shift the pitches to match, match the beat, and cut it to match the chorus perfectly, then sync the chord progression, it almost sounds similar! See, total ripoff!

  • Both Madonna and Gaga aren't 100% original ALL artist take other artists work and put some of their ideas in it to make it unique. Thats how the music industry has always worked.

  • @alfredomuro15 that's not true, I can give you thousand of artist example's who are really original. Yes you can be inspired with certain accord's, but to take all of it,is really bad.

  • The first thing I thought when I heard 'Born this way' was what a fucking rip-off.

I have nothing against Lady Gaga. However, she's not original. She's a rip-off and she's got nothing on Björk or Fever Ray for an example. Her videos resemble Madonna quite often and her music is not at all original.

  • Ya know it's funny...everyone always talks about how terrible Lady Gaga is, which may be true, but Madonna is equally as untalented, she's just been a public figure who's made herself controversial for so long that people assume she's actually a great musician. Lady Gaga is simply doing the same thing. This kind of pop has always been terrible. It's not a new thing.

  • Omg totes a ripoff... That Gaga, always being a trickster. But GUESS WHAT! There's a NEW Gaga!!!

Check her out! Lauren "Lady LaLa" Harding. She is hotter than Madge AND Gaga. YouTube "Lauren Harding - Shooting Stars". You be the judge.

Express Yourself? Born This Way? Try some Lady LaLa.

  • they both sound alot alike but i think lady gagas song is better then madonnas is

  • Gaga expressed herself when she wrote born this wat :D

  • Gaga is a huge fan of Madonna ... i like both songs and even Madonna says it was a nice way to remake the song.

  • @Simonemoni she was just being sarcastic when she said that

  • very song are similar .that not mean there are a copy .only the good ear can see the different between this two song and a see that different.

  • @reicoconstantine speak english first.... then we can respect your opinion..... till then you are just saying bullshit.....

  • @chidime4ever the reason why you are so upset is because I have a reason, do not be angry or bitter, and no doubt that my opinion is true is as written, I can send you a million songs that are similar and even Madonna is a great imitator but has so stupid fans like you. learn something about education and not denigrate the opinion of the people as they write or speak because I am sure you are not perfect unless you are god.

  • Madonna is just a backup singer here

  • No need to be so technological to know it is a ripoff, first time I listened to Lady Gaga's Born This Way in the background of a pub so I could not discern the lyrics I honestly thought it was Madonna's express yourself, all the way to almost the end of the song when I thought "oh no it must be some kind of cover". That says it all... I think Madonna has not said anything because she's a smart old fox in the game and she knows too well that's what Lady Gaga wanted, controversy and publicity...

  • They should duet.

  • If only all of you guy's knew...GaGa b 4 she realesd BORN THIS WAY...just like most of her music, she send;s it to some close friends and inspirations 4 an opinion. That said GaGaa said in an tv interview that she send the track to not only 2 Madonna but also her ppl....and Madonna gave her a Thumbs up and like it...WHY DO YOU GUY'S THINK MADONNA ASN'T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!! ;) b-sides Madonna in fact sign with GaGa's perminet record label 4 her new album (INTERSCOPE RECORDS) sooo just relax

  • It's a good marriage

  • I don't think the choruses are similar at all, but there are some similarities between the verses, especialy when both songs up the pitch for "listen to me when I say" and "you'll do much better baby on your own" respecitively. Although I don't think that means that Born this Way should be disregarded as a rip-off, the similarities aren't that great.

  • the melodies dont even match -.-

  • Also sounds like "Baby I Like It"

  • This is ridiculous. Matching the speed defuses the whole point of comparison/contrast.

  • you all do know born this way other then the obvious meaning, is a tribute to madonna right?

  • @BemularM78 The vocal melodies are not identical. Try humming them to yourself.

  • i am not a fn of either artist i like madonna more than gag i'm just tired of gaga trying to make her outfits and everything a second meaning that is total bs

  • Listen to this part in the songs when they say this..

Madonna-"If the time isn't right then move on"

Lady Gaga-"Listen to me what i say"

Sound EXACTLY the same. just in different wording.

and there are other times in the song when they sound the same.

i am a fan of madonnas but i really love lady gaga because of how much she is doing and changing the world.. :D

  • @BemularM78 Whatever. If you look at music from every artist, most of their songs and chord progressions will sound like others in the past. Pick any one of them and they'll surely have someone else with a similar if not identical melody, beat, tempo, progression or whatever the hell you throw at it.

And while you type your comment here Lady Gaga is out making millions of dollars and changing the world. You still lose.

  • @crophecy Thank you. This is a good mashup btw... LOL

  • Jeez people saying everyone ripped everyone off. Its like when you're drawing a hand. Why does the hand you drew have 5 fingers? No one tells you the hand you drew is unoriginal and you ripped off from nature. It's like you people don't realize that progress is the evolution of old or common ideas into new ones. This is one such evolution.

Both Madonna and Lady Gaga have changed the world. They are both musical geniuses. End of story.

  • The song structure is identical.

  • I'm a gaga fan and I know she's a brilliant artist and a great songwriter but as a musician myself I must say this is a pretty square ripoff. I'm not saying gaga has made a career out of stealing, she hasn't. I think she's a real talent. But the first second I heard of this song I thought Madonna. Immediately. And it's not just part of it. The whole thing is remarkably similar, not just the tempo. Chord changes, melody, all nearly identical. That's my 2 cents.

  • ...That being said i want you to compare these, vanilla ice - queen, modest mouse - lupe fiasco, elvis costello - voodo child, once you do that...come back here and listen to modonna - gaga back to back, and tell me they sound the same....all im saying is you cant steal a song writers tempo...just like the lead singer of buckcherry stole from the lead singer of aerosmith because they look the same..or panic at the disco stole dressing styles from smashing pumpkins / my chemical romance

  • i listened to this and im going to say the same thing....not the same song....i dont care if tempo is the same its not ripping an artist of if you use the same tempo...same riff yes...but the beats are not the same, the structure of the music is not the same, the only similarity is pausing and tempo which i will fully admit are "close" but you can cleary hear modonna picks up slighlty after lady gaga and you can hear moddona finish 2 sentances after gaga...

  • LOL "Lady Gaga - Bad Kids" sounds like a twin-song of "MyChael - Old without bolt" what is years old

take a look at yourself "similar songs video" of my channel

  • Who give's a damn about madonna she ripped off marilyn manroe funny thing is !!!

when your in the pop industry most people are gonna rip off you like la roux stoled robin's style end of story . and guess what i like all of them they have their way of expressing their selfs

PS: nicki minaj stoled lil kims look!

  • The only similarity I notice is they're in the same key

    So what

  • @jhniscolV2 lol not even. this version of born this way has been sped up and made higher so it seems more similar.

  • On another note, it's damn obvious almost none of you give a lick about 'originality in pop music', just want to defend your idol by bringing another down.

  • My problem with Gaga is what she said after being asked about comparison of the two songs. There plenty of bands I love that take a bass line or a guitar riff from a song or band they want to pay homage to. The difference is that they own up to it. Pay royalty's or simply admit to taking the lick and adding there own stuff to it to make a song. I can't respect someone who won't even own up to where they get inspiration. Lady Gaga is unoriginal and her words make her a fraud.

  • gaga way better than anyone

  • @martili651 I'm just saying enjoy both. Why the hate? Madonna paved the way and to me Lady Gaga is her heir. Nothing would please me more than to see them both on stage. It would be so totally fabulous!!

  • @frc1968 because it's blatant plaigarism, which is illegal on one hand & low-rent on the other. and lady gag-me is being praised for "originality" by her fans - she not only steals from madonna, but many other artists as well. if i were a fan, i would feel betrayed & foolish for believing in her.

  • Madonna can kiss crazy Brittney and the very talented Christina all she wants but Lady Gaga will be Madonna's heir. She is the only one willing to do what Madonna has done and I would absolutely LOVE to see both of them on the stage together and probably will. So all the old queens need to stop hating.

  • k guys while you go off with the 53year old madonna im gonna stay with the more talented 25year old Queen Gaga

  • @MatthewMonster26 Nothing wrong with Madonna. Why is it we can't enjoy both? I would love to see Madonna and Lady Gaga onstage together. That, to me. would be fabulous.

  • I love how the chorus for both of them start at the exact same moment.

  • @AGgirldoll Also the break down right at 2:28 when they change the instrumental and cadence of the lyrics...

  • gaga suck she cant some up with her own ideas, just cause she is crazy don't make her a good artist

  • @DelCristo41 I am also a big Led Zeppelin fan. I have a giant poster of their's in my room. You can see it in a few of my videos. But right next to it is a Lady Gaga poster. I like many kinds of music and think all music is great in it's own way.

  • If I was Madonna, I'd be asking: "Where's my money, Farkin?"

And yeah, Madonna's is vastly superior.

  • Both songs have the same chord progression. When you play either song on the piano your left hand would be playing A flat, G flat, D flat, and then back to A flat throughout the songs. This does not mean the tunes are the same. Your right hand would play different notes for each song. Nobody owns this chord progression, it is not illegal to use it, and it probably has been used thousands of times by different artists. There are millions of songs out there that have the same chord progressions.

  • Madonna's song is way better than Lady Gaga's

  • @mysticrockgirl Lady Gaga's ''song'' is a retarded piece of shit

  • @mysticrockgirl Totally right! Madonna's song is so much better!

  • George Harrison had to face a lawsuit and pay... and what he did was nowhere near as bad as this. (My Sweet Lord vs. He's So Fine.)

  • At the end of the day it's all mainstream shit pop music which uses the same chord progressions and song structures over and over , they're bound to sound the same..

  • @flyingwithbernadette It is a good reason, hoe! :P

  • BIGGEST RIP OFF IN HISTORY

  • I knew it the first time I heard it! Then I googled Lady Gaga and Madonna and there it was :) Still, no case, because she hasn't used the same words or the same melody. The stucture, mode and chords are exactly the same, but can't prove plagirism. Both songs are brilliant. Gaga has beautiful, controlled voice and the musical skill and knowledge to reshape those x-factor songs. I don't like her style, but I appreciate her gift and abilities.

  • Um. Just because they altered the pitch doesn't mean it doesn't sound the same. It follows the same kind of chord progression and rhythm. It's seriously a bizarro version of the same song.

  • Whoever is saying these songs are the same, are idiots, they altered the song pitch and speed to make it sound like madonnas song

  • Lady Gaga's is better. PERIOD!

  • @ParamoreRoxTheSoxOff yes the song but madonna is better on the whole i dont even like madonna that much but she is amazing

  • Whatever is going on, GaGa is makin' a killin! Good for her.

  • @jessicahelsley This isn't just the same progression ... it's virtually the same song.

  • Many people have put forth the belief that "if it were any other 'artist'..." I personally had never heard of Lady Gaga until I heard this "Born this way" song. It caught my attention because i thought it WAS "Express yourself" until i listened closer and it wasn't. That it was this "artist" had nothing to do with it.

  • It's like a cheap imitation of the real thing. Like those commercials that get a song made similar to the original, so they can get out of paying royalties! Nothing more.

  • This song came on the radio and immediately all I could think of was that Madonna song. That says a lot right there.

Lady Gaga also had a recent hit that was very close to and Ace of Base song, so..

  • Gaga doesn't wish she creates and lie and makes it true !

  • I have looked at the sheet music to both songs. Different beat, different rthym, different speed, different instrumentals and of course different lyrics. So what is the argument? If this were a male singer or even a different female singer, no one would have ever thought to compare the two. With Madonna's rep as a very big workaholic I cant imagine that if there was any support for infringement here that she wouldnt litigate-even against Gaga. She didnt so I would say there are no grounds

  • @TheToxlabrat so the fact that the part of "take it to a higher ground" and gaga's "listen to me when i say" part is exactly the same is still different instrumental even though they are the same notes and same timing? weird that they are so "different" even though they are the exact same notes

  • @SHILOHH8R not according to the sheet music that I have. When I locate the parts that you are talking about in each piece of music, the measure of occurance doesnt even line up. Also, when you compare the two pieces based on the sheet music you will see that Express Yourself does not contain any G Majors whereas Born this Way has numerous G major occurances. Then again different time, one is 3/4 and one is 4/4. What sheet music are you referencing??

  • @TheToxlabrat They are in different keys, but nearly the same song. In the choruses especially the melody Gaga sings is the same just slightly inverted

  • A popular song sounds like another popular song? Welcome to the music business, where originality is nonexistent.

  • GaGa wishes she was Madonna.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought this would be better, but it gets really good at 2:40. Anyway, as far as "copying", people like Weird Al are considered talented for just changing the lyrics. If you can take a song and rearrange it to a completely different song that a lot of people like, sorry, but that's talent to me.

  • Taylor Swift's whole album "Fearless" sounds basically the same, but no one is saying anything about that!

  • @ktmallick I did! Neither Gaga or Taylor are in any way original. Not a big deal, just own up to it if you are called out on it. Say "yes! I looked up to Madonna as many girls with aspirations like mine did. When I wrote this song it was shortly after I heard Express Yourself on the radio"...or what ever the real story is. Not some BS about not understanding the correlation then ending it with a disgusting remark that puts down people born with natural mental disabilities. She's despicable!

  • Comment removed

  • This is so ridiculous. It proves NOTHING. You can do it with ANY TWO SONGS with the same chord progression. You blatantly admitted you MATCHED the speed and pitch. OBVIOUSLY, they're going to work together.

    People are such sheep.

  • Comment removed

  • @itsme3592 "People are such sheep". -- Yes they're called Lady Gaga followers. Do you even know what a chord progression is?

  • @Padarack1 Are you kidding me right now? I wrote that comment, what, a month ago? Are you surfing through comments looking for a youtube fight? I will not entertain you. Get a hobby.

  • @itsme3592 I have many ... What difference does it make when you wrote it? I was led here by a music news story, saw your comment, realized it was ridiculous and pointed out an immutable truth of life. Ok you can't even answer my question, case closed.

  • @Padarack1 It does make a difference; your intention isn't even to bring about clarity on this issue, but rather to waste my time with back & forth banter. I'm sure my comment was not readily visible. You're the type of person who goes surfing through weeks of comments looking to pick fights with people over bullshit- and I'm over that. Yes, I know what a chord progression is. No, the songs do not sound alike. And, yes, this video juxtaposes the two songs in a way that's very misleading. Period.

  • And all these people blatantly using the term "chord progression" without knowing or understanding it are also using the example of California Gurls and Tik Tok.

California Gurls sounds like Your Love Is My Drug, not Tik Tok, because they also share the same chord progression. The only reason California Gurls can be mixed with Tik Tok is because they share the same key. Once again, you cant state things without knowing or understanding them.

  • Consider this:

"You And I" (another Gaga song) shares the same chord progression as "Express Yourself", as do many other songs (and consequently "Born This Way") and yet they sound nothing alike.

So if you even knew what "chord progression" meant, you'd know that it takes more than that to make two songs similar. So don't say they only share the same chord progression, because you probably don't even know what you're talking about.

  • I love them both. I love both songs. So shut up.

  • Thanks - I've been dying for someone to do this! Ripoff young whippersnapper.

  • Comment removed

  • There is a difference between using the same chord progression and in blind sight copying beats and singing about the exact same things. You like GaGa, you should listen to Maddona.

  • All of there artist are ripping off. JLo just did it with the "dance on the floor" which is from a Lambada song... "Chorando se foi". But people are still buying the songs. SO deal with it :) peace

  • I love how Katy Perry gets to release a song(California Gurls) that is almost IDENTICAL To Ke$ha's Tik Tok, 6 months apart, and nobody says anything. Katy Perry then proceeds to wear all this crazy shit(E.T.) like Lady GaGa and nobody says anything. When Lady GaGa releases a song that sounds similar in some parts to a song that's over 20 years old, everybody gets the panties in a bunch. Why does everybody pick on GaGa?

  • @doydothefrog not realy ppl notice and miley cyrus too and selena gomez and other ppl not only lady gaga so be happy

  • @doydothefrog

Katy is not pretending to be all original and unique. Gaga is saying that she's uber special and weird. While she's nothing but a ripp off copy cat, stutterer, using all other people's succes.

  • @CoctoRy Exactly! The problem I have with Gaga is that she's portraying an overall image of creativity and originality; then she passes out music that is not original in the least. I guess people still don't want to notice the Emperor's new clothes.

  • @doydothefrog because dr luke wrote both tik tok and california gurls, and yes they are the same song

  • @doydothefrog You didn't hear then that Katy's ET sounds just like t.A.T.u.'s "All The Things She Said" I personally don't see the big deal in EY/BTW but I see the other really well.

And honestly if 1 person 1 young person hears BTW and doesn't kill themself and feels good enough to go on isn't that a good thing? Madonna has went on record saying she loves BTW and is behind it. She did the SNL skit with Gaga last year. I don't see why people need to hate when the songs message is love... smh

  • @doydothefrog People need someone to attack. And when someone like Lady Gaga possibly takes from one of the biggest artists of the late 20th century, she's going to be attacked by a larger demographic than Katy Perry would for copying Ke$ha.

  • @doydothefrog people did bitch about the similarities between tik tok and california gurls just the same

  • @doydothefrog

right. The reason people shit on gaga so much is because she is out making statements and doing something different. When somebody decides to go against the grain, they are instantly up for 1000 times more scrutiny and judgment than, let's say, Katy Perry. You're right, California Girls is just as identical to Tik Tok, but because Katy Perry isn't standing out in any special way, no one cares. Britney Spears has always been way more of a copy of Madonna anyways

  • @frexspar76 No, the reason Gaga is slowly trending downward is Katy Perry's album and tour is called "Teenage Dream" - Katy knows her audience .... Doesn't delude herself she's going to be seen as up there with U2, Bowie, Elton John, Queen and the Beatles ... Gaga's songwriting ability is nowhere CLOSE to that acumen, in a million years ... Fail. And you can't choose that you're the new gay icon, THEY (any group) has to pick you. She doesn't get that, which makes her even more annoying.

  • @Padarack1

So, your theory is that because Katy Perry markets more towards teenagers, her market....everyone gives her more of a pass on "copying" Tik Tok? Sorry, I'm not following

  • @doydothefrog because she steals the most

  • @doydothefrog you know, all this "crazy shit like gaga" that perry wore in ET is not a gaga thing, but a bowie thing. i mean its crazy talking about who ripp-off and who is not. EVERY ARTIST ripp-off and EVERY ARTIST doesn't ripp-off. we can't find the truth no matter how many years we fight. peace.

  • @doydothefrog California Gurls is NOTHING like Tik Tok: only the chorus is remotely similar, the verses are not the same chords (a half step down) as these two songs are. WRONG, no this is not gay bashing you liberal cunt

  • @WhoaJ30 omg.... Do you know what you wrote?? how dumb are you???

  • @WhoaJ30

California Gurls and Tik ToK are the EXACT same song! Dr Luke produced them both and the instrumental is nearly identical.

BTW, I'm not a "liberal cunt" like you are accusing the other guy, I'm a conservative.

  • @doydothefrog every artist you just mentioned sucks. so who cares what they do. Where's my Zeppelin fans at?

  • @doydothefrog omg ikr? people just need to leave her alone ;/

  • @doydothefrog I completely agree. Tik Tok and California Gurls were made by the same producer (Dr. Luke), so that might be why people didn't make a big deal about the similarities. I think people got more offended by the Gaga thing because she didn't produce Express Yourself, or even hire the same producer/songwriter that wrote Express Yourself....so it made it seem like she was trying to copy a melody that worked for someone else and present it as new. The song is pretty derivative.

  • @doydothefrog Theft? Shit man, kesha's and that iCarly's "Disgusting" sound less similar.

  • @doydothefrog Funny, i'm always asking "Why does everybody kiss Gaga's ass?" And you got it backwards, Katy Perry's song sounds nothing like Ke$hia's, except the chorus which is the same basic pop sound that exists in so much of pop music... while 'Born This Way' sounds so identical to Madonna's, i thought it WAS a remix of 'Express Yourself' the first time i heard it. Yes people get their panties in a bunch over plagiarism, even when the ripped off song is 20 years old.

  • @kyotoai Please be joking. california gurls and tik tok are very obviously based off one another (even written by the same people), please take a listen: watch?v=T2dPA2dCRNY

Dr. Luke has even given the same chorus to Dynamite, Perfect, and Price Tag this year, but no one raised shit.

BTW is an homage to disco, and uses a very popular chord progression. I don't deny there are similarities between the two, but it hardly qualifies as a 'ripoff', Gaga has the right to defend her song.

  • @TheInsignificantFly 90% of the crap played in dance clubs sound the same to me, because with that typical heavy dance beat dominating everything, all i hear is BOOM-BOOM-BOOM. This is how strings of unrelated songs can be connected into a medley and sound like they go together. DJs have been doing this since at least the 70s. Tik Tok and California Gurls both have the same heavy dance beat (as do 285487 other songs) that overpowers everything else, so i'd need to hear them with that removed.

  • @kyotoai You are correct with your 90% comment, most pop music today is formulaic. And yes you can manipulate the "dance beat" to make songs fit together, that's what the uploader did on this video. The point is that what you call "plagiarism" in pop is found everywhere, and if you actually gave two shits about "originality" in music you would be discussing many songs we hear on the radio today, not just using ONE to point fingers at a person. sheesh....

  • @TheInsignificantFly There is no reason to discuss other songs on this board, because THIS video is a comparison of THESE two songs. But i don't listen to radio at all... due to the fact that pop isn't generally my thing and, as we can both agree, most of it sounds the same. (~_^)

  • @kyotoai There is very good reason to discuss the current state of pop music on this board. The amount of media coverage and criticism Gaga has received for this was both ridiculous and unfair, we don't give that kind of attention to any other popular songs on the radio. And it's okay if you don't listen to much pop today, what I'm saying is that you shouldn't get your "panties in a bunch" over something as unremarkable as two similar sounding songs which were released over 20 yrs apart.

  • @TheInsignificantFly I'm not a rabid fan of Madonna, so my panties are fine, thank you. XD I'm just saying it's understandable that people would get upset about this, especially if they are huge Madonna fans. And you are absolutely correct, no one else gets the attention Gaga gets, which was my original point. No other artist receives this much praise and ass-kissing either, so the criticism she receives is proportional. Don't worry, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

  • @kyotoai My apologies then, I have slightly misread your first comment, somehow getting the idea that the issue was specifically bothering YOU instead of 'people' in general. Although I would not objectively call this a case of plagiarism, I can see why madonna fans would jump on it... And I also agree that the criticism Gaga receives is proportional in a sense

  • I suppose it gets to a point, where No one can be original anymore and Ideas run out. So theres going to be similarities In music to a extent.

  • Just cannot believe how many people on here cannot determine that these two songs are essentially the same.

  • Sure, they sound the same if all you care about is they're both pop songs with the same chord progression -- ignoring differences in key, tempo, instrumentation, drum arrangement, bass line, melody, lyrical meter, lyrical content, etc. What's next, Green Day's "Holiday" rips off Offspring's "Self Esteem" because they share a i-VI-III-VII progression, are the same genre, and feature heavy guitars and at least one bass solo? Is "Glycerine" just a slow version of "When I Come Around"?

  • Who cares? sounds great! :D

  • @jessicahelsley

yes, but few major billboard hits are this obvious of a copycat. When I first heard the Gaga song, my jaw was on the floor. it's the EXACT same song with different lyrics. The melodic progression AND the chord progression are the same. this ripoff is BLATANT. Lady G is better than that! She is a talented songwriter. Why would she steal an old Madonna hit?

  • Comment removed

  • same.

  • Honestly this whole debacle reminds me of the backlash against James Cameron's Avatar movie. Suddenly everyone becomes a high-minded critic whenever a piece of art achieves world-wide popularity. They point to influences and say the work is plagiarized, but then the same people turn around and eat up the same old garbage the Britney Spears and Michael Bays of the world constantly churn out. We have a strange need to tear down our most successful artists, even as they produce their best work.

  • @DustininSD When my father showed me the comic that he used to read it was VERY similar to Avatar. Yes, the visuals were beuatiful, but they definitely were not the greatest thing ever (best movie of all time is what I hear most often.) Same with Family Guy, not just the Simpsons but the character Stewie (Jimmy Corrigan the smartest kid in the world. They act and look the EXACT same)

I guess my point is there is a difference between being influenced by something, and a direct rip-off

  • @jessicahelsley Thank you! Finally someone said it.

  • Yes they sound similar at some point in the chorus... so Express yourself Vol1 VS Express yourself Vol2 I'll choose Express yourself Vol. 2 GaGa's version thank you so much (sorry but I never loved Madonna... even when I know she is the BIG creator of HUGE stars like Britney, Gaga, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, ETC ETC... I prefer her creations hehe)

  • OMG It is NOT just the chord progression, it's the tone of the song and the structure, as you can obviously hear. Nobody can deny it. They sound so similar.

  • RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tik Tok and California girls sound the same too.

THEY ARE ALL POP MUSIC OF COURSE THEY'RE GONNA SOUND THE SAME SOMETIMES

    HERPDERP

  • I thought that "Born This Way" sounded like a previous song, but I couldn't figure out which one. Lady Gaga definitely stole the beat from Express Yourself. Definitely copyright infringement here!

  • I just don't hear it. I grew up listening to Madonna and I just don't hear the connection. You could probably mash up many other songs as well.

  • @gtiger766 You don't hear it ? Wow... Just wow... Are you aware two songs are played at the same time in this video ?

  • @Quartrez I still don't hear it.

  • @gtiger766 You're deaf.

  • this makes both songs sound better.

  • I think it's a sneaky hint that the two might tour together at some point. This would be a perfect encore.

  • They do sound similar, but I do think nobody was trying to rip anyone off. They're both good songs. IMO, the ladies should coordinate and capitalize on this. This mashup is kewl.

  • this kind of sounds awesome.

  • It's probably better that I'm already gay before hearing this, because it might give someone the push they needed. And since I AM already gay, this shit is like CATNIP. Can I get this on iTunes???

  • To be honest, this isn't something new, this happens all the time, speed and pitch, some bands even use the same riff as other bands, it happens.

  • That is such a basic beat anybody could rip it off. actually look up the 4 chord song. See how pop has been ripping itself off for decades.

  • he says he had to match the pitch and the speed to get them to sound alike. That automatically means that they are obviously different songs. So the song is based off of some of the same chords, you can find 100 songs that use the same chords. Yeah, it kind of sounds like the Madonna song, but thats only because the chords are similar. You people obviiously know nothing about music. And anyway, was Madonna all that great to begin with. I was a fan, but it was pop, not Beethoven.

  • @minceyjs If I could like your comment a million times I would. Madonna and GaGa are both very different, and very awesome in their own ways. :)

  • wait did she pay madonna for it??

  • excellent, disappointed in Lady gaga's blatent plagerism, being original is hard, she's has a good mixer, and had a good stylist (Mqueen) now she is soon done, because originality will always win out!!

  • Yes !!! Lady Gaga prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

it is true, this woman tries to copy Madonna to become famous throughout the world.

You should be ashamed for such a thing.

It's not nice to fool the world by copying the songs of others.

  • first time i heard the gaga song, I thought it was the madonna song

  • Okay, but who really cares?

  • the only thing these two songs have in common is they both would still sound great if they switch beats ..

  • Madonna should sue gaga's butt off

  • "Imitation is the highest form of flattery." Even classical musicians were and are notorious for borrowing, stealing, making fun of and honoring others through musical reference. I think it's awesome that Gaga respects her elders enough to reference them in such a clever way.

  • @SlovenskyRaj the thing is that she isnt acknowledging her some of her ... inspirations as inspirations or crediting them for the idea, and passively takes credit for being original.. and the comparison to expres yourself is nothing, listen to the comparison to SNSD's song, its the EXACT same music practically... theres absoultely no debate on that one
