@hayabusa1690 Dunno the spartans were beast too, Leonidas vs Achilles i would not say directly achilles won, or those mermidans vs astinos and stestios...
@ZigZagRunner That's what any man would have done in those times - if you killed someone you took their spoils and wore it to show your honour. Every soldier did it, not just Hector. And have you actually read the Iliad or the Aeneid? If you did then you'd know that Hector was not a 'douche' as you called him, but a very respectable, kind-hearted man, and also a very loving husband and father. If you want to call someone a douche, please do it to someone who deserves it.
achilles is soo misunderstond everyone just uses him to win battles because of his natural ablity's and really he is depressed.
also i love the way the men wear skirts, its funny really how wairrors used to wear skirts yet guys in the mordern world dont wear them cause there to "girly"
The simple truth is, that brad pit looks like a yellow haired, big foot.. that would be better suited to play a barberian germanic primitive, such as a gaul or viking or other nordic saveges like that, NOT A GREEK!!!
this film is a complete desaster due to it's horrid LIES and missinformation in it's effort to give a race of beggars and vagrants a place of greatness among Ancient cultures, something that germanics NEVER HAD OR WERE. due to their great primitivism and bestial mindlessness.
I feel shame for the people who call Achilles " a great warrior ". A warrior always respects a warrior if not when he alive at least after his death. Achillies was fighting for the greed of a stupid king and morever for the fame . Hector was a real hero who fights for the sake of his people and his motherland as a great warrior. How can a real fighter drag the dead body of great fighter like Hector ? unbelievable man .....
@ashokalipuraa True but in the movie they also didnt show Hector running away from Achilles 3 times around the walls of Troy before the Gods intervened and asked him to fight, like the story really goes lol! I'd be royally pissed if I had to chase a dude down to kick his ass too! Troy was a big city!
@shkotay u mean the movie does n presents the true story of the Troy. sorry dude i do not much about tht. whr can i find this documentary ? i wanna know the whole real story.
@ashokalipuraa Wikipedia has a good read on Achillies and Hector. The battle of Troy is only talked about in the Odyessy and its still debated whether it happened or not because it was THOUSANDS of years ago. But yes in the historical records they say Hector hauled ass when it came time to fight Achillies and he had to chase him down, and THEN they had a hell of a good fight like here. They stuck to some known facts from the records here, and fudged others in this film but thats hollywood.
@ashokalipuraa Might be the Illiad too that has the story. Its been years since I read it up but both the Odyessy and the Illiad are great reads. Also look up Hector of Troy and you'll see about the fight.
Do any of you understand that Achilles was a mythological character? The Trojan War may have happened but certainly not for Helen of Sparta...Achilles was also not homosexual in the Greek myths so just don't...

Never have I seen so much stuff pulled from a rectum (no pun intended). But before your scream the typical "baww Christianity" rant. Jews and Muslims also preach being straight.

if achilles was gay i wouldn't give a shit because he's the baddest mother fucker ever definitely the baddest homo ever i would hate to be the religious person to question his preference they'd get wrecked this is a awesome movie
Ok this thing about the "gayness" of Greek heroes. In their society, by that I mean classical Hellas, bisexuality was not stigmatized. In fact the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is a paradigm of the mentor-protege relationship among warrior men in Greece. There is nothing "wrong" with Achilles being in love sexually with Patroclus in the society that gave birth to this myth.
One of the worst movies ever made. All the stars seem thrown into the roles together simply because of their celebrity hotness. Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger are about the only people that actually semi-fit.
The story is historically inaccurate and the plotline is horrendous. The story switches between major characters on a whim. The lines and battles scenes are cheesy. All women are used as sex objects and nothing more.
Everything about this film spells out an intended epic gone bad.
It's not entirely accurate to say that Achilles, a figure of myth appearing in a work of fiction,'was'or'wasn't gay' (to say that would ignore that he didn't exist). But yeah,it ain't his 'cousins' death he's so pissed over in the Illyiad. Sparta(the most impressive martial culture ever),fielded the ancient equivalent of special forces units-in which EVERY hoplite had a gay lover(the theory being that you'd fight hardest for them).Weird stuff to us but really only a product of a different time.
@dbelmon1 I believe you're thinking of the Theban Sacred Band, a unit whose members fought as a dyas (pairs) with their lovers. They were the elite of the Theban military and helped bring about the final defeat of the Spartans just before they were themselves beaten by the Macedonians under Alexander's father Philip II. Homosexuality, though not frowned upon, was not institutionalized as a part of Spartan military life. But, yes, Patrochlos was not his 'cousin'.
yeah, while I love this movie, and understand it would be complete gibberish to literally its entire audience if it was 'loyal' to the text (probably not very entertaining on the big screen for hat matter), there's something interesting about comparing the conversion from Homer's polytheist, Grecian, pre-Abrahamic culture's context, with Troy, which reflects a radically different (just different, no better, no worse ) set of ideas about what's acceptable. Adderall made me write this
If he ever plays Captain Lucky Jack Aubrey in a Sequel to Master and Commander it will be a Box Office smash and Brad's Chance tp play a Warm Hearted and Fierce Leader as well as Soldier.
me pointing out with sarcasm that brad pitt plays the badass in every movie ive seen him in makes me obsessed. youre totally right. nice halo vids by the way. maybe when you get to be famous from how cool you are i can be obsessed with you too!
I'm just sick and tired about everyone disliking a really cool character in a movie because they dislike the actor. Get over it, the actor is a placebo, he's not really there, your watching a character. Unless it's Jim Carrey or someone who always plays himself, which is still sometimes only the character.
I hear the same crap about Daredevil all the time "hes not cool cuz hes ben affleck" get over it. geez. Achilles is awesome, his actor prolly had something to do with that
I figured after getting quite a few emails about responses I'd just say I too have heard achilles was gay in history classes. A movie is still a movie and meant to MAKE MONEY, and certainly a badass "manly" hero being a homosexual would (negatively) affect sales, strictly because the male audience in contemporary times in general would have turned away many movie goers. I love the movie for what it is and not for its historical equivalencies...
@CrimesonWitcher It's possible your getting confused. What I heard is that his 'cousin' in the movie was actually replacing the role of his 'lover' in history. So he was not in love with his cousin, he was in love with a man, and to make him not gay the movie portrayed hs lover instead as his family. And that chick was entirely made up. Could be wrong though.
@spartythespart I'm going to be as nice as I can be one this one. Mythology is my SHIT! I know about this sir. There are many version of this story as told from person to person. The most well known were is when he was in love with his cousin cousin they were raised together after his cousins parents die and they got close. This is just one version made for straight people who don't want to see Brad Pitt being gay.
I don't know that much about the battle of troy, way too much information to absorb. I never heard before that he actually may have been in love with his cousin though.
@spartythespart ya it's pretty messed up by today's standards and i don't approve of it but it was back then and who am I to tell someone who they can't love right? Try telling that to Achilles and I'm sure you'll get a spear in the face as a reply. Sexual concatenation doesn't change the fact that the man was a killing machine and no ones bitch! He sure was no sissy!
@MuchoDenaroTM This is true but even if he had been portrayed as a homosexual, Brad Pitt was playing the part so both male and female would of still gone to watch it, lol.
@MuchoDenaroTM achilles never existed.. he is a character made from the ancient writer omiros who makes the history fact of trojan war wich happened because of the expanding politics of the Greek army, a mythological fact that tells us that the war happened because of Helen who never excisted either..
@MuchoDenaroTM Myth - The only thing we know for certain is that he had male friends who were important to him like his cousin. Other than that you can't really say he was homo.
Movie - He was attracted to the woman from troy where at the end of the movie he was helping her and got hit with the arrow, he died trying to help her.
@MuchoDenaroTM I never understood why people single achilles out for being gay. In mythology most of the famous heroes were gay including Hercules (who had more male lovers than we can keep track of), not to mention many greek gods had their little guy on guy affairs.
@MuchoDenaroTM - Well it was very rare for men in ancient Greece NOT to have homosexual relations, so I would believe that, but the story of Achilles always includes him refusing to fight after Briseis was taken from him, and she was a woman, so at most he was bisexual. Also, the Trojan War is still debated on whether it was even real or just a legend, so I don't understand why it would be covered in a history class.
@MuchoDenaroTM I think it was because back in those days city states like Athens didn't frown upon homosexuality. It was seen as just a love for humanity generally and you could love another man without anyone thinking anything of it. Same with Alexander the great, he wasn't gay, he just had the utmost love for his best friend. Achilles was probably seen as bi-sexual, because if i remember rightly he had a concubine called Brises and also loved Patrocles.
@MuchoDenaroTM how typical... "make the money.. fuck their minds!!!" right??.... or the ever so handy.. "it's just a movie.. it's just... ENTERTAINMENT..."
give them SHIT!!!.. and just take their money.....
So it's between Aquilles is gay, or.. he is a primitive germanic instead of a Greek man of the Mediterranean Race huh?.... how low you people go.. might as well placed a negroid as Aquilles.. that is how MANIPULATIVE the movie industry is... how shameless and parasitic...
@MuchoDenaroTM You're right, and I think it's important to remember that ancient Greek society was EXTREMELY misogynistic towards women. No woman, noble or otherwise, would talk back to a man the way Helen did to Paris in this film. Men often had relationships with each other that were somewhat sexual, but mostly for companionship. Contemporary ideas about sexuality are radically different than those held by the Greeks. This film is an adaptation, nothing more.
you are semi correct in saying he was "gay". In that time people enjoyed sex for the sake of sex regardless of gender. Men would often have sex with other men for the admiration of the masculine body and not because they were "gay". However these same men were married to women and had sex with them for both enjoyment and childbirth. Many of the classic Greek heroes had men they would take with them on adventures to have sex with because they were viewed stronger than women.
@elong821-And you would know this from a respectable Historical source and that would be from? and in two thousand years from now will they not say the same about todays special forces?
Wait a second. If someone calls me something I am not and I tell them the truth I am branded a something phobe. What kind of warped New World Order crap and rubbish is this?
It was an uneven match since Hector was a mortal. Hector was the real hero... killed by a semigod under a faggot rage attack. Paris wasnt gay...he wasnt a warrior n he was too young, but he found the way to send this fag Achllies to hell
@IMTHETRUTHH actually Achilles was fearless too and very family (witch is not shown in the movie) on his shield was paint the things that he could lost (familly, friends...ect) and he was a much better fighter
@IMTHETRUTHH thats why achilles dragged him around by his chariot for a week and cut out his eyes ears and tongue? hektor was a punk. achilles was a god of war, if youve ever read the illiad.
@thenutsisgood Hector was dead anyways...who cares about what Achillies did to Hector`s body...Achillies was led by his homosexual rage. Hector was a true warrior...he did not hide from a semigod...Achillies was a coward because he knew he couldnt be defeated.
That's not necessarily true. It's just an assumption, there's no actual evidence to back it. Then again, there's no evidence to back the actual existence of Achilles either I suppose.
ehehe so true, but it is common knowledge that ancient Greeks were accustomed to having boy lovers.. most probably all these nobles you see were gay...
It's common knowledge that CLASSICAL Greeks were accustomed to having boy lovers. That's probably the reason so many people have hopped on "Achilles/Patroclus as lovers" bandwagon. It wasn't as common 800 years earlier during the Minoan and Mycenean eras. Now, I'm not saying it's not a possibility. I'm juts saying that people have based their theories on an erroneous timeframe. It's like saying something the British or the French did 800 years ago is still current.
Well, I wouldn't say "great", but I do concede that it is possible. Unfortunately, we'll never know for sure one way or another so it will remain a matter of speculation.
And you know this from?.......because you are gay yourself?....you personally knew them? or you we're a peeping tom and you saw them perform these acts? Common sense and life has shown us gays are cowards and especially would real men fight the way they do? Apparently who are misguided by the re-writing of history and outright lies around figures like him that has happened in the past 200 years and especially american sourced. I can find you a historian who will call your father or mother gay
And you know this from?.......because you are gay yourself?....you personally knew them? or you we're a peeping tom and you saw them perform these acts? Apparently who are misguided by the re-writing of history and outright lies around figures like him that has happened in the past 200 years and especially american sourced. I can find you a historian who will call your father or mother gay
damn it, now why am I labeled as a gay defender? I am not gay, but historians tell so (I mean objective academic historians) go check yourself. the truth that we can not know things doesnt mean that we can not guess and approximate truth to some degree. since I also have a dislike for gays I wont argue more with you..
I have researched these so called 'facts' and it seems the only mistake the Greeks did was officially recognizing that gays existed. And because they have found vases and drawings of some rich fag who had his sick fantasy exploits on them, so called 'repectable' historians who despite being closet gay and worse having masonic backgrounds themselves have labelled the men of Greece 'gay'. With all the gay and trans films and bars today, would you like the people of the future to say the same?
You got a point there, but to me as long as you do not list your references as to your research I will think that your hate for gays clouds your vision (well I know from experience since my vision about gays is kinda distorted due to strong dislike) I am trying to be objective that's it..
My sources and research are here in Greece. I doubt you will believe them because they are not from known and 'respectable' sources as the one's you have come and once I did, listen and respect
OK, that kind of came out of nowhere. 5hitter, I don't really think you should be commenting, since you're clearly biased. Same reason I try to stay off Sarah Palin threads (sadly, not always successfully), because I dislike her (alot), and I'll always side with whoever's bashing her. Though, obviously, from my posts, I don't believe Achilles to be gay, you can't just discount the possibility by citing... oh wait, you didn't cite anything...
Firstly it's all recorded here in Greece. I think we know the subject better dont you think? Secondly, do you know Greek? Even if I give you Greek sources and artifacts how would you catch the meaning and understand what it is talking about? Do you want me to start quoting in Greek? and or translated from Greek and how can you verify it? Dont be naive. I think I prefer to trust our ancient artifacts here than some masonic historian's overseas? Would Greece know more about Ice Hockey than Canada?
@IMTHETRUTHH achilles was the greatest warrior of all time and he wasnt a coward. he led from the front of his army. he wasnt homosexual. do some research about ancient greece and youll see that idiot. hector was always below achilles, and thats that. try actually reading the illiad and not watchin a movie
@thenutsisgood I read the Homer's Iliad for the first time in 1995 when I was in 6th grade...I read the Homer's Iliad from 6th grade until 11th grade every single year. I came to this country and started in H.S 12th grade...and guess what they were teaching in my Literature class ? The IIliad by Homer. I don`t need to do any research (Achilles and Patroclus+ deep emotional bond between adult men =Homosexual)
@DanielHarel you dont undarstand, achilles didnt died becouse of heel, he died becouse of three arrows in his chest, forth arrow in heel was just symbolic.
actually, no. the first arrow to hit him was in the heel, it was the most powerful one, too. the other arrows were just to make sure hell die, more than enough, because the arrow to the heel was poisonous, too.
Lol how did you get thumbs down for this comment? when Paris fought agamenon's brother he was getting beaten and was at Hector's feet practically begging for him to help him he's a coward
thats brotherly love men. wat would u have done.. if u had a big bro who had ur back..... wouldnt u go up to him. or u would die with honor. i doubt anybody wants to die....
k all u people say about if spartains had a match agains him theyd win if they had em all but if it was 1 on 1 its ovios achilles would win even hector would win !!!!

This was Brad Pitt's Greatest role to date.
His fight scenes as Achilles were just Great.
If he ever plays Captain Lucky Jack Aubrey in a Sequel to Master and Commander it will be a Box Office smash and Brad's Chance tp play a Warm Hearted and Fierce Leader as well as Soldier.

me pointing out with sarcasm that brad pitt plays the badass in every movie ive seen him in makes me obsessed. youre totally right. nice halo vids by the way. maybe when you get to be famous from how cool you are i can be obsessed with you too!
xm8pro 1 year ago
halo vids....?
I'm just sick and tired about everyone disliking a really cool character in a movie because they dislike the actor. Get over it, the actor is a placebo, he's not really there, your watching a character. Unless it's Jim Carrey or someone who always plays himself, which is still sometimes only the character.
I hear the same crap about Daredevil all the time "hes not cool cuz hes ben affleck" get over it. geez. Achilles is awesome, his actor prolly had something to do with that
spartythespart 1 year ago
wtf are you talking about? who said i disliked the movie because brad pitt's in it?
i like brad pitt's movies but he's the badass in every single one of them.

MuchoDenaroTM 2 years ago
@MuchoDenaroTM well he wasn't gay he was Bisexual but the fucked up part was that some say he was in love with his cousin which is pretty messed up.
CrimesonWitcher 1 year ago
@CrimesonWitcher It's possible your getting confused. What I heard is that his 'cousin' in the movie was actually replacing the role of his 'lover' in history. So he was not in love with his cousin, he was in love with a man, and to make him not gay the movie portrayed hs lover instead as his family. And that chick was entirely made up. Could be wrong though.
spartythespart 1 year ago
@spartythespart I'm going to be as nice as I can be one this one. Mythology is my SHIT! I know about this sir. There are many version of this story as told from person to person. The most well known were is when he was in love with his cousin cousin they were raised together after his cousins parents die and they got close. This is just one version made for straight people who don't want to see Brad Pitt being gay.
CrimesonWitcher 1 year ago
@CrimesonWitcher well that didn't come off as mean to me lol
i just thought you sound confused in your comment
I don't know that much about the battle of troy, way too much information to absorb. I never heard before that he actually may have been in love with his cousin though.
spartythespart 1 year ago
@spartythespart ya it's pretty messed up by today's standards and i don't approve of it but it was back then and who am I to tell someone who they can't love right? Try telling that to Achilles and I'm sure you'll get a spear in the face as a reply. Sexual concatenation doesn't change the fact that the man was a killing machine and no ones bitch! He sure was no sissy!
CrimesonWitcher 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM he wasnt "gay" more like bi haha he did love Briseis alot of greeks have men lover Zeus did
Mluna792 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM This is true but even if he had been portrayed as a homosexual, Brad Pitt was playing the part so both male and female would of still gone to watch it, lol.
SirPiche 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM achilles never existed.. he is a character made from the ancient writer omiros who makes the history fact of trojan war wich happened because of the expanding politics of the Greek army, a mythological fact that tells us that the war happened because of Helen who never excisted either..
3rspios 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM actually as you know alexander the great was gay but i actually never heard that achilles was gay as well ....
Louigene 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM Myth - The only thing we know for certain is that he had male friends who were important to him like his cousin. Other than that you can't really say he was homo.
Movie - He was attracted to the woman from troy where at the end of the movie he was helping her and got hit with the arrow, he died trying to help her.
Ghoghag 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM I never understood why people single achilles out for being gay. In mythology most of the famous heroes were gay including Hercules (who had more male lovers than we can keep track of), not to mention many greek gods had their little guy on guy affairs.
36cerberus 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM what lol? my English isint that good
AdmiralLawlrus 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM - Well it was very rare for men in ancient Greece NOT to have homosexual relations, so I would believe that, but the story of Achilles always includes him refusing to fight after Briseis was taken from him, and she was a woman, so at most he was bisexual. Also, the Trojan War is still debated on whether it was even real or just a legend, so I don't understand why it would be covered in a history class.
AWickedMind 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM I think it was because back in those days city states like Athens didn't frown upon homosexuality. It was seen as just a love for humanity generally and you could love another man without anyone thinking anything of it. Same with Alexander the great, he wasn't gay, he just had the utmost love for his best friend. Achilles was probably seen as bi-sexual, because if i remember rightly he had a concubine called Brises and also loved Patrocles.

@MuchoDenaroTM
Thats all true, but you have to understand, IT WAS NORMAL TO BE GAY BACK THEN!!

@MuchoDenaroTM how typical... "make the money.. fuck their minds!!!" right??.... or the ever so handy.. "it's just a movie.. it's just... ENTERTAINMENT..."
give them SHIT!!!.. and just take their money.....
So it's between Aquilles is gay, or.. he is a primitive germanic instead of a Greek man of the Mediterranean Race huh?.... how low you people go.. might as well placed a negroid as Aquilles.. that is how MANIPULATIVE the movie industry is... how shameless and parasitic...
moigranespiritu 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM You're right, and I think it's important to remember that ancient Greek society was EXTREMELY misogynistic towards women. No woman, noble or otherwise, would talk back to a man the way Helen did to Paris in this film. Men often had relationships with each other that were somewhat sexual, but mostly for companionship. Contemporary ideas about sexuality are radically different than those held by the Greeks. This film is an adaptation, nothing more.
ShamusMacGuffin 1 year ago
@MuchoDenaroTM
you are semi correct in saying he was "gay".

Patroclo was his lover or bf, but they didnt show it in the movie which Im glad n it makes it a better movie.
IMTHETRUTHH 2 years ago
That's not necessarily true. It's just an assumption, there's no actual evidence to back it. Then again, there's no evidence to back the actual existence of Achilles either I suppose.
MC473428 2 years ago
hahahaha "there's no evidence?"
Dude, its just a story..what kind of evidence do you want ..a picture of Achilles and Patroclo fucking? lmao

IMTHETRUTHH 2 years ago
ehehe so true, but it is common knowledge that ancient Greeks were accustomed to having boy lovers.. most probably all these nobles you see were gay...
HemeHaci 2 years ago
It's common knowledge that CLASSICAL Greeks were accustomed to having boy lovers. That's probably the reason so many people have hopped on "Achilles/Patroclus as lovers" bandwagon. It wasn't as common 800 years earlier during the Minoan and Mycenean eras. Now, I'm not saying it's not a possibility. I'm juts saying that people have based their theories on an erroneous timeframe. It's like saying something the British or the French did 800 years ago is still current.
MC473428 2 years ago
You may be right about the time frame, still the possibility of him having a boy lover is still great.
HemeHaci 2 years ago
@HemeHaci
Well, I wouldn't say "great", but I do concede that it is possible. Unfortunately, we'll never know for sure one way or another so it will remain a matter of speculation.

Most certainly.

damn it, now why am I labeled as a gay defender? I am not gay, but historians tell so (I mean objective academic historians) go check yourself. the truth that we can not know things doesnt mean that we can not guess and approximate truth to some degree. since I also have a dislike for gays I wont argue more with you..
HemeHaci 2 years ago
I have researched these so called 'facts' and it seems the only mistake the Greeks did was officially recognizing that gays existed. And because they have found vases and drawings of some rich fag who had his sick fantasy exploits on them, so called 'repectable' historians who despite being closet gay and worse having masonic backgrounds themselves have labelled the men of Greece 'gay'. With all the gay and trans films and bars today, would you like the people of the future to say the same?
5hitter 2 years ago
You got a point there, but to me as long as you do not list your references as to your research I will think that your hate for gays clouds your vision (well I know from experience since my vision about gays is kinda distorted due to strong dislike) I am trying to be objective that's it..
HemeHaci 2 years ago
My sources and research are here in Greece. I doubt you will believe them because they are not from known and 'respectable' sources as the one's you have come and once I did, listen and respect
5hitter 2 years ago
OK, that kind of came out of nowhere. 5hitter, I don't really think you should be commenting, since you're clearly biased. Same reason I try to stay off Sarah Palin threads (sadly, not always successfully), because I dislike her (alot), and I'll always side with whoever's bashing her. Though, obviously, from my posts, I don't believe Achilles to be gay, you can't just discount the possibility by citing... oh wait, you didn't cite anything...
MC473428 2 years ago
Firstly it's all recorded here in Greece. I think we know the subject better dont you think? Secondly, do you know Greek? Even if I give you Greek sources and artifacts how would you catch the meaning and understand what it is talking about? Do you want me to start quoting in Greek? and or translated from Greek and how can you verify it? Dont be naive. I think I prefer to trust our ancient artifacts here than some masonic historian's overseas? Would Greece know more about Ice Hockey than Canada?
