  • A consummate artist.

  • I forget just how GREAT a voice she has. WOW! Her phrasing, her power, she's wonderful.

  • This was Liberace's theme song for years. She is truly the voice of the American musical theater.

  • Magic.

  • That is so wonderful

  • Great rendition, great lady!

  • First I would untangle each curl of her hair....Then I'd KISS her! :0)

  • Not only is this tender without being bathetic, but her accompanist is top-notch. Nicely done.

  • i first saw her in that Mel Brooks movie....WOW!!!

  • whoo hoo foxy lady

  • This performance is so charming and heartfelt. I love it.

  • What a gorgeous woman. Voice, personality, appearance. Just beautiful.

  • 1776freak- Yes, she was married for about 9 years. Her husband was killed in an air crash- very sad. Her father's first name was Peter and that's where she got her stage name. At the time, Lazzaro was too ethnic. Anyway, she is truly an ASTOUNDING performer! Not only a great singer and dancer, but an incredible actress!

  • She grew up in my neighborhood in queens just a few block from where I lived. Her name was Lazzaro. Her father owned a bread route and I would see his trucks dashing thru the neighborhood all the time. My friend Russell delivered the LI press to her house. She was a few years younger than me, I don't think she ever married. What a voice. What a beauty. She has discovered the fountain of youth.f

  • her hair *_*

and her voice is so touching.

  • A kindred soul born with the voice of a song bird.

  • It's videos like this of Bernadette that make me so thankful for Youtube. This way I can listen to her goddessesque (I don't know if that is a word) whenever, and, someday when I have kids, I can show them videos like this and say, "That is what a talented singer and artist sounds like!"

  • I Love Bernadette...she did this beautiful classic as an encore when I saw her in Richmond, VA in the 1990s...just beautiful.

  • Peerless; no other singer has the presence, the voice, the beauty...the persona. Love to see and hear her.

  • I've melted over this lady my entire life!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Bernadette Peters!! :)

  • I love that you can hear the kiss :)

  • If I close my eyes, this really takes me back.. I feel like im in some 'small cafe' in the 1930s... Amazing song.

  • We'll be seeing you, wonderful Bernadette

  • oh boy-gorgeous and so touching!

  • Is there any more talented living artist? I think not.

  • I'm crazy about Bernadette Peters, our first lady of the theater. She sings this beautifully and is probably the only other female singer, I enjoy singing this song........And then, there's Johnny Mathis who blows it out of the park. But again, I love Bernadette Peters.

  • The first time i heard this song was many years ago at an AIDS benefit, and the singer was standing in front of a portion of the AIDS quilt. I find it incredibly sad for that reason.

  • wow! she has a beautiful voice! i've never heard someone who had such a unique voice...singers begin to sound alike these days, and hearing her voice made me feel relieved and reassured

  • Stupid utube don't MAKE me upgrade flash!

I just viewed other Bernadette videos on here perfectly well without it! grrrrr

  • Heartfelt. Always liked her but wasn't aware she was this talented.

  • @TheCityrooster Oh, you should listen to other songs on youtube by her...especially Not a Day Goes By, and Johanna

  • I love Redheads :)

  • Charming. Done very genuinely. I've always like this talented lady. Very lovely and great hair. Looks good in those gowns!

  • i don't understand why American Idol doesn't get a real singer like this to be a judge instead of a comedian like Ellen D.

  • she's hilarious, especially in Into The Woods. And a great singer.

  • Bernadette Peters sets the standard for the meaning of the word beautiful my god

  • She's magnificent!

  • Thank you, dear Lady. ..

    Artist. Soul. Always, Blessings...

    the Toad

  • I just melt into my socks when I hear this... three more are from her self-titled album with the angelic portrait by Antonio Vargas: "If You Were The Only Boy (In The

World), "Other Lady" and "Only Wounded"

She, as well as her voice, is an enigma. As tender and sweet as a waif of a girl, and as arrestingly beautiful, supremely confident as a woman, she

can hopelessly captivate me, bringing me to tears

that fall like the rain, then mischievously make me

smile, like the sun following the rain.

  • if shes this breathtaking on youtube i just marvel at what she must be like in person

  • I was lucky enough to see her live at a concert in Va. She is a true performer in every sense of the word. I had front a row seat. She made laugh, smile and cry. I felt like she was singing just to me.

  • speechless, such a talent !!!

  • Though not a World War II Vet but a Vietnam Vet the feelings and message of this song are the same.

  • She sang this encore at her Richmond, VA show when I saw her here. Love you, Bernadette!
