One of my favorite singers. Her The Moon is a Harsh Mistress was voted as one of the best performances in the last 50 years! Eva Cassidy is another great...also died young. Pity she died young! Why do so many good artistes die young?
radka toneff is a singular voice, as can only be said of the finest. finest as in raw, pure, clever, complicated, natural. woman had soul to big to keep. i came to her late but catching up is my happiness.
So very glad to have learned of her and to hear this song/her music, so sad to know that she passed away-it would have been incredible to hear her now. Her voice would have been just a little bit mellower and perhaps lower, and even more beautiful if that were possible. I would have moved mountains to hear her performance now, and I am "just an American." Thank-you again for this...
I heard about this song from a book called "Goldengrove" and i didnt know if this song was for real, but i guess it is. its beautiful and sad all at the same time.

this version of the song is just flat out boring and to old to me. lucies version was amazing and she didnt deserve to get booted off the x factor. i would rather listen to lucies version then this one anyday
That's ok, you're entitled to your opinion. And I understand how this version can seem "boring" to some, especially those who don't really listen to a lot of jazz/alternative music, or to young people :) Radka's listeners are usually a bit older than 18 (or 21, as I am).
@Lotielin Here, here! 22. Only those who understand real sadness understand Radka! Than again only those who understand real sadness can comprehend absolute happiness...Thank you Radka! I hope you left this world with more peace than you lived in it.
@Lotielin I'm 22 years old, and this is probably the best version of "My funny valentine" I've ever heard(not counting Chet Baker, of course). But as you point out, I'm also an avid jazz- fan, so I might have different musical preferences than your average twenty year old.
It is released on the album "Fairytales" (1986), Norway's best selling jazz album to this day, and Steve Dobrogosz plays piano beautifully on all 10 tracks.
This is extraordinarily good !!! I've never heard of Radka. She has a way with the words in this song like I have never heard before. Great performance. Thank you for sharing the video Lotielin.
We Americans are so blindly provincial, even when it comes to music.. Ms Toneff, who I've never heard of, proves that artistry defies national origin. Could this be regarded more highly if she were American?
bonjour, hello

lucie jones version is way better than this!

I strongly disagree. Her voice is way too "young", and it doesn't have all the emotions and sadness and soul that Radka's voice has.

@rvcrvc2 very possibly ;-) But she's Norwegian, so in the average americans eyes, she's probably just a farm girl? :-P
