SMG was put into the E36 (92-99) while a an updated (SMGII) was put into the E46 M3s

smgII is 2filp near the wheel....smgI is in E36 was a normally straight gear....u can only move it up and down...

nah, it's just easier in straight line than stick. The car sounds awesome but I would still go for a stick even if it may not accelerate as fast.

i know this sounds stupid !! lol but smg is the automatic for the m3 right ?? or is it like titronic which can be auto/manual type of transmission ? thnx =]

SMG = Sequential Manual Gearbox
F1 style shifting with paddles at the wheel. Can be set to auto too, but why would you want to use that :p
