FFXII was the one where square got the actual gameplay SPOT ON! Only thing was that the gambits made the game a bit too easy. Aside from that, the gameplay and combat system was the best out of all the FF's.
I think it's the best FF that has been made. And to add something to your Gambit thing, you can always turn gambits off, if you think they make it too easy. :)

This game is quite good..Wats with all the haters??? I enjoyed it very much...side quests,monster hunts, nice eqs and weapons...nice..my only regret is the armor part if u equip an an armor and the character shows u wearing that armor it would be awesome..;)
@GoodGuyy32, hi there, FFXII hater here, see atleast i think i have valid reasons and i think i can put them into none hate civilized words so you can understand some of us without thinking of all of us as FFVII but-hurt fanboys (actually my fabs are: 1.-IV, 2.-XI, 3.-I/TA), i'll post it as another response down there. withouth further ado:
1: the music, it's good and reminds me of tactics advance yet it's so peacefull for the most part and ulike xenoblades (i know, dumb example 'cuse the reales date), the "just passing by" song is the same during battles there's no RE theme, 2: the eidolons are ships, not actual summons, 3: the combat is boring and after so much complex boring customization feels bad not being able to actually play and the freedom ilusion brakes apart when walking away of foes does not help avoid atacks,
4: tutorials do poor job explaining, 5: even after finally grasping all the tutorials and overlooking the lack of some typical FF elements, the game feels exactly like doing programation class' home work, you equip them, activate licence stuff, set gambits then just walk towards the end of the puzzle lacking dungeons and get close to foes to see if the "code" imputs work as spected, if not, then back to programing and it's dissapointing that besides programing your job it's basicly walk.
@solorathain Even is a final fantasy world were people can use magic. The enemy army also wields magic so still even for a fantasy world this is bullshit that 6 magical beings and a small army can defeat an empire of magical beings

I heard that there are certain chests in the game that if you open them you can't get the ultimate weapons. Is that true and if so, where are those chests? Also, is there a new game plus feature at all in this game?

This FFXII was amazing, the only problem was that was a easy game. You could make it hard, but also you could just stay leveling and then the game just becomes easy.

When I started playing the game I made the lines disappear because they got on my nerves so bad... plus I think my character's levels are to low cause Dr. Cid keeps killing me. (-_-)
@RosadePinku You mean the Target Lines? Actually they're quite useful. For example, if a foe is tempting to cast Confuse on one of your party members, you'll know who is the foe going to cast on, then you'll be able to go into the Party Menu and equip Bowline Sash (I think this is the item) to have immunity to Confuse. Also, if you're fleeing, you can see how many foes are chasing after you without rotate the camera around if they are ready to attack your character(s).....
@RosadePinku ...But if you are playing with only one character in the active party, then yeah, I do agree with you. But I still prefer to have the target lines switched on though. The number of foes that going to attack you from the back of your character can still be detected by the target lines (if they are ready to attack or cast a Magick on you).
The storyline wasn't the best, but I liked the gameplay much more. I've never really been a final fantasy fan, but I played 10-2, and couldn't play it anymore after I experienced the turn-based style gameplay. They should make every FF game like FF12. And I loved FF7 Dirge of Cerberus.
@rafax241 I want some freedom while fighting, I like faster paced gameplay. Turn based is too limited. If they had the better action to go along with the final fantasy storylines, I'd loved this franchise, but as of now I've only played FF7 Dirge of Cerberus, FF10-2, and FF12, and I wanted to try the new PS3 games, but the turn based style turned me off, and they'd have a lot more fans if they changed it. But of course if you are a FF fan then you probably like the gameplay.

FF12 had the best gameplay but not a very good storyline. There was so much good extra stuff that the main game felt left out and the end boss was just a let down as it has been in every FF since number 9.
Better characters than the dreadful FFX characters though. Yet I didn't mind FFX-2 at all and thought it was very fun maybe it was just the awful Tidus that got on your nerves. Vaan is ghost-like in terms of character development but not annoying.
In my opinion, this was the best Final Fantasy. I had such ridiculous amounts of fun on this game, especially with Yiazmat. I wish they were making this a sequel instead of XIII
@CoolBlokeAndABit Well, you can still play Revenant Wings. In Tactics A2 Vaan appears. All final fantasy tactics happen in Ivalice. I love FF XII too.

If you do not feel linked to the characters, if you ignore the history, all you have is the gameplay, which isn't the most enjoyable type in a RPG. Final Fantasy is like everything in the world, it isn't perfect. If you'll only like a game that has everything that you want perfectly placed, then give up. It won't happen. Try to enjoy what you have.
Kids nowadays are so impatient...If you aren't up to RPGs, then do not try to play them. You WILL have to waste at least 9/10 of the time in the game training. If you think it's too boring/hard in only 2 hours of the game, go find another franchise. I think one person said the game sucked and everyone went with it. I tell you, if you do not link yourself with the characters or the game, you WON'T like it. That's what RPG is about. Feeling familiar with the characters. >
The first time I beat this game I was lv40/42, and withou best magic and equipment. Took 1 hour and half for all Vayne forms and I was sure to die by all his Teraflares. Epic battle. Epic game.

Braska's final summon is easy as pie three hits for me and he's dead The first form = 60k Hp Second Form = 120K Hp I do 99,999 Dmg in a single attack wow if you think he's hard jeez imagine you trying to fight penance now thats a challenge he's the hardest boss 25 Million HP FTW
@runescapecyber Well, he was hard for me... Imagine you dont have celestial weapons, your strongest guy has ~4.500 HP (Auron) and you don't have any chocobo wings/feathers and so on... I finally won with Yuna (doublecast Ultima ftw), I leveled up every party member, Tidus had the Caladbolg (I HATE HATE HATE that chocobo race with 0.0.0 if you know what I mean but I did it) and 5 turbo ethers for Yuna and Lulu :) I would try beating Penance, but first I have to beat || TO BE CONTINUED
@runescapecyber || the dark aeons, and I didn't try defeating them yet because the only way of beating them for me would be to use Zanmato, and Yojimbo just wouldn't do it if it is really necessary :-( but there was one instance when he did: I fought Seymour Omnis and decided to give him all my money (~130.000 gil) and thought: "do what you want, I don't care if I lose -.-" and guess what Yojimbo did with my money xD

I love this game so much. Such an awesome world to explore, i think the story was great because it was a relief of the same old love/save the world kind of story. I liked all of the characters, and had fun with the license bored and gambit system. I loved the battle system, and although summons were useless, i had a lot of fun fighting them, and i loved the heated boss fight music and the all around great music and amazing voice acting. I have played every ff and this one is still my favorite:)
I actually liked the gambit system of FFXII. It's nice when you really don't have to do much of anything once you have it set up the way you want it. With that being said, for me personally, i do feel that this was the weakest Final Fantasy that I've played. Although the intuitive battle system was great and the voice acting is probably the best that I've heard in a Final Fantasy yet, the story was not good at all. Play FF Tactics if you want a great story set in Ivalice. ;-)

ffxii is one of the best , a proper rpg . huge world to explore (unlike 10 or 13) the problem with younger ff fans is that they will think its shit if it dosnt have a soppy love story and a song they can cry to.
when i played this i got so into it and leveled up to like level 80 on all characters. so so satisfying when they're all wacking the enemies with 9999. great gameplay

@NancyDrewGameGuides I personally hated it for the same reasons I got fed up with 2nd gen Pokemon games on forward: too much mandated grinding, and always seem to be short on money. I thought the battle system was actually innovative (in FF terms anyway), even if it is a ripoff of MMO.

I've played all of the FF games (starting with FFVI) and I'm happy to see the franchise grow and evolve. Sure, I miss Nobuo Uematsu's musical touch, but I can honestly say I do not miss random battles.

FF12 had the best gameplay but not a very good storyline. There was so much good extra stuff that the main game felt left out and the end boss was just a let down as it has been in every FF since number 9.
Better characters than the dreadful FFX characters though. Yet I didn't mind FFX-2 at all and thought it was very fun maybe it was just the awful Tidus that got on your nerves. Vaan is ghost-like in terms of character development but not annoying.

In my opinion, this was the best Final Fantasy. I had such ridiculous amounts of fun on this game, especially with Yiazmat. I wish they were making this a sequel instead of XIII

@CoolBlokeAndABit Well, you can still play Revenant Wings. In Tactics A2 Vaan appears. All final fantasy tactics happen in Ivalice. I love FF XII too.

@hyperobjection675 Yeah I played Revenant Wings but it really didn't do anything for me, it wasn't really the same FFXII, it just had the same characters. Final Fantasy tactics is an absolute boss game though, would be cool if they were making another one of those.

honestly coming from a person that started final fantasy from the SNES days, i thought this was a good game! not an epic game but it for me was a solid game. i know i am going to get a lot of crap from saying this but i would give it a 7.5/10! just a good game, and i would leave it at that. the gameplay was actually quite strong for me, the story was original but sort of boring....the worst thing about this game would probably have to be it's characters. i hated all of them! but alas, solid game

If you do not feel linked to the characters, if you ignore the history, all you have is the gameplay, which isn't the most enjoyable type in a RPG. Final Fantasy is like everything in the world, it isn't perfect. If you'll only like a game that has everything that you want perfectly placed, then give up. It won't happen. Try to enjoy what you have.

Kids nowadays are so impatient...If you aren't up to RPGs, then do not try to play them. You WILL have to waste at least 9/10 of the time in the game training. If you think it's too boring/hard in only 2 hours of the game, go find another franchise. I think one person said the game sucked and everyone went with it. I tell you, if you do not link yourself with the characters or the game, you WON'T like it. That's what RPG is about. Feeling familiar with the characters. >

The first time I beat this game I was lv40/42, and withou best magic and equipment. Took 1 hour and half for all Vayne forms and I was sure to die by all his Teraflares. Epic battle. Epic game.

Braska's final summon is easy as pie three hits for me and he's dead The first form = 60k Hp Second Form = 120K Hp I do 99,999 Dmg in a single attack wow if you think he's hard jeez imagine you trying to fight penance now thats a challenge he's the hardest boss 25 Million HP FTW

@runescapecyber Well, he was hard for me... Imagine you dont have celestial weapons, your strongest guy has ~4.500 HP (Auron) and you don't have any chocobo wings/feathers and so on... I finally won with Yuna (doublecast Ultima ftw), I leveled up every party member, Tidus had the Caladbolg (I HATE HATE HATE that chocobo race with 0.0.0 if you know what I mean but I did it) and 5 turbo ethers for Yuna and Lulu :) I would try beating Penance, but first I have to beat || TO BE CONTINUED

@runescapecyber || the dark aeons, and I didn't try defeating them yet because the only way of beating them for me would be to use Zanmato, and Yojimbo just wouldn't do it if it is really necessary :-( but there was one instance when he did: I fought Seymour Omnis and decided to give him all my money (~130.000 gil) and thought: "do what you want, I don't care if I lose -.-" and guess what Yojimbo did with my money xD

I love this game so much. Such an awesome world to explore, i think the story was great because it was a relief of the same old love/save the world kind of story. I liked all of the characters, and had fun with the license bored and gambit system. I loved the battle system, and although summons were useless, i had a lot of fun fighting them, and i loved the heated boss fight music and the all around great music and amazing voice acting. I have played every ff and this one is still my favorite:)

I actually liked the gambit system of FFXII. It's nice when you really don't have to do much of anything once you have it set up the way you want it. With that being said, for me personally, i do feel that this was the weakest Final Fantasy that I've played. Although the intuitive battle system was great and the voice acting is probably the best that I've heard in a Final Fantasy yet, the story was not good at all. Play FF Tactics if you want a great story set in Ivalice. ;-)

ffxii is one of the best , a proper rpg . huge world to explore (unlike 10 or 13) the problem with younger ff fans is that they will think its shit if it dosnt have a soppy love story and a song they can cry to.

1)Only 2 songs from all of them are epic
2)Boring graphics
3)All the people even at end of game gave newbie advises

I do not get why people hated this game. I think they saw a different battle system and no traditional fan fare and were like wtf yo. But I played this game throught and realized just how AMAZING it was.

@NancyDrewGameGuides I personally hated it for the same reasons I got fed up with 2nd gen Pokemon games on forward: too much mandated grinding, and always seem to be short on money. I thought the battle system was actually innovative (in FF terms anyway), even if it is a ripoff of MMO.

@NancyDrewGameGuides hah, i also don't get why ppl complain about this battle system. almost all the FFs bs was different (okay i get that there were failures as well). that is the point. square tries to develop different systems all the time, and it's not easy. to me FF12's bs was fun to use, couse with gambits you could plan your moves for every situation. ppl say "you don't have to to anything couse gambits do the work and that's no fun" true, but you have to be smart to set up those. :)

@horekar Wow, dude. Keep an open mind. The music does NOT suck just because Nobuo Uematsu didn't do the soundtrack. Similarly, just because SE is trying to evolve the franchise (in this case, a different battle system) doesn't mean that is sucks either.
I've played all of the FF games (starting with FFVI) and I'm happy to see the franchise grow and evolve. Sure, I miss Nobuo Uematsu's musical touch, but I can honestly say I do not miss random battles.
