how much for a soulbender???? i want one of these badboys!!! fuckin neighbor and his stupid fucking rap shit is pissing me off!!! which i plan to avenge his ignorance with a SOULBENDER!!! the soulbender should take care of it!
This is quite reminescent of the Tone Bender fuzzes. To get the early Page sound, it is close, keeping in mind that you gotta use a Les Paul or Tele (Even a Custom that Page used to play), Marshall and so on. Part of Jimmy Page `s sound reside in the way he plays, not only equipment.
This is a good fuzz but I would not say it is good for all styles. It fits well with Who, Early Zeppelin, 1960 type of fuzz. It has a midish type of personality. For an all-around Fuzz, I prefer the Analogman Germanium fuzz or even the Dunlop Turquoise bc-108.
Any germanium fuzz cleans up when you lower the volume (on the guitar), A lot of Hendrix sounds are made with a fuzz face played at half volume. The tone benders clean up but not as much as a Fuzz Face. I am not sure if Townshend used his volume or not. I suspect he did.
If you listen to Hendrix first album, you will hear it. When he reduces the guitar volume, the sound cleans up. Listen to Fire. THe fuzz face is always on. THe guitar cleans up when he turns the volume down. I have a Fulltone 69 and a Analogman nkt275 which behave in the same way as a fuzz face (germanium transistors).
Silicon (good quality pedals) cleans up as well, but not as much as germanium. I use to have a 70 Fulltone with silicon transistor and it does clean up, but not as much as the 69, which is germanium.
If you want a nice silicon fuzz, try the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix RI (the turquoise ). It really does a good job. Germanium are way more expensive because germanium transistors are quite scarce.

wow im sure it's well worth it though!! i just got a tonebone for 80 bucks from ebay!!!!! is the bender kind of like a fuzz?
kdjfnvjvd 2 years ago
It is a fuzz indeed. The Tone bone is more a Marshall like distortion I think. The Soul-Bender is the old school fuzz like Zeppelin , Page.

All in all would you say that that is a good pedal for early Zeppelin?

Right, but as far as fuzz boxes go would this be a good choice?

you think it's important the pedal has germanium components? silicons one don't work good?

Le DAM est-il semblable que le soul-bender? Je trouve que les tone benders compressent beaucoup comparé aux fuzz Fulltone 69 ou Anlogman nkt 275
