@REYDERthetruthseek3r I live in ORting....... We have like 16 min to get out of doge. Sorry but no hope. The roads will be blocked with kids running up the hill on foot. 162 will be jammed.
i did some reasearch, pretty much everything in the valley is gone, there are two major rivers that run from rainier, i know one is Green River, the other is the Puyallup river...the lahars from the last blast made the valley what it is today so in saying that Orting is the first to go, then Sumner, auburn, kent, most of Renton, the 167 corridor would not exist anymore....most of downtown Puyallup would disappear also
It seems lile people have forgotten that Mt Rainier is on a big fault line and never mind that it is in a easy few hour distance from the puget sound... So yea ash is bad and the toxic cloud is to but there WILL be massive flooding and also this volcano has the ability to awaken a super volcano....and we DO NOT WANT THAT the 2012 theory is a glimpse of what could happen with a supervolcano... but imnot paranoid just did a report on this back in high school..
@Rudeboi253 An eruption of Rainier could not possibly trigger a 'supereruption' (I assume you are talking about the Yellowstone caldera here). Yellowstone and Rainier are on completely different tectonic settings with completely separate magma sources and there is no relationship between them whatsoever (unless their stress fields are in some way interacting - there is no evidence for this).
You did a high school project, I am currently studying postgrad volcanology. There is no need to panic.
if you are interested in finding out, do some research checking out geological maps of where the lahars have been in the past and you'll see if your town is in one of them. You'll know if the next blast will get ya. Tacoma will certainly go, most of Seattle. Don't forget the ash that gets dumped as well. Yeup, pretty much screwed if your here for the next blast.
If you live in like Olympia, you won't be affected badly. I live in the South Hill area a few miles away from Puyallup. Tacoma and Seatlle will get some of it, though.
I live in Portland, so I'd probably survive the eruption 100% unharmed. Now, if Mt. Hood decides to go nuts, I might have more of a problem. It's a pretty quiet mountain, though.
i live in puyallup. and when it happens, i'm gonna light my bong. (;
