  • Long and hard o3o

  • This song used to be on Captain Kangaroo with clips like this.

  • 12 people are hit by a train

  • Heheh. Makes me LOL :3

  • For the last fifteen years you've been disrepectful!!

  • I haven't heard this song in at least 35 years. Yes, I know this from Captain Kangaroo back in the 1970s. For all these years, though, I thought at the end he was saying "I'm a-flyyying!". LOL

  • Man WOW that REALLY takes me back to one of the best times of my life. Loved it.

  • I sreamed out im a train in public places and charged people and I looked up Im a train

  • very well put together...been looking for this song forever!

  • This song drives me nuts. How come he says "chook-a train?" Combining the onomatopoeia with the rest of the lyrics is just so weird; for some reason it rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's because this song always gets stuck in my head. Actually, besides this one point I think it's a great song. Nice video, too, and nice footage. Thanks for posting!

  • tsjoeke tsjoeke train , goede song.

  • Albert hit #31 in Billboard, 4-27-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAINS :'D

  • One of the best ....!

    Ernie

  • Wow, I haven't heard this song in about 30 years (age 6 or 7) from Captain Kangaroo. Wish I could see that original steam engine video fro the song used on the show. However, this is fantastic as well. Love the random Mexican song ending and interesting how Hammond's voice now reminds me of Noddy Holder from Slade, especially the ending.

  • @InvisibleSkyDaddy And I thought I was the only one who remembered the caption kangaroo thing with the big UP engines the Big Boys

  • @icrails I would love to see that one again.

  • i remember this on am channel

  • Great video thanks.

  • Could have been merged with videos of steam trains. Would have fitted the Chugga-Chugga

  • is that video out there without the music?

  • "F"in AWESOME!!! This was one of my favorite songs back in the 70's and it never fails to rev me up - something about the Spanish/Calypso beat, I guess! So Great to get to hear it again! And, that one far shot of ALL those cars hooked up to the Head Cab! Wow!

  • Prachtliedje blijft dit, en de mooie beelden van oude treinen hierbij... héérlijk ja!

  • I remember this song from the mid-70's. Does anyone know where this was filmed? Replies appreciated. Thanks.

  • i like this song its nice

  • Nice video,James Last did a great version of this song but it was years ago.

  • Do you love trains ??

    Great song

  • Lol. This song is so awesome :D

  • Awesome! I remember this too.Too bad they didn't include some denver & rio grande engines on the video.

  • thats awesome

  • I like the steam engines much better with the song I'm a Train as well, just seems to go better with the steam locomotives.

  • Cool it really speaks to the video,It always makes me smile

  • This could be straight off a Paul Simon LP.

  • Song IS available on iTunes, finally! w00t!

  • IV-V-I much?

  • I like this but does anyone have the original (more popular version from the 60's which I think was much more upbeat and better ?

  • Captain Kangaroo.. That was a silly show, but that's where I heard this classic as well.. We‘re getting OLD. Great song. I'm a train Chicka, Chicka, Chicka, Chicka Train OHooooo yeah!

  • My God I remember hearing this song on one of those K-TEL records which I guess would have been around 1972 or '73.

  • I love this song, I remember listening to this song on Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid, and they'd show footage of old steam locomotives, like the Union Pacific Big Boy and other vintage steam locomotives, that was so sool, I wish somebody could put that video of I'm a Train from Captain Kangaroo here on YouTube.

  • I remembered that song on "Captain Kangaroo" from the 1970's. I will agree with you that the clip has been returned for everyone's viewing on YouTube. This clip would be useful for everyone to remember in 15 years. Good Day!! A Brilliant 6!!

  • I know what you mean, I watched it as a kid way back in the early 1970s

  • @katrinablue I actually remember watching a video set to this song on Captain Kangaroo back in the early 70s!

"I'm a Train...." (out of key of course)

  • this aint a simple song

So I went online to look for the song and to my son's great pleasure I found this clip!!! He wants to watch it over and over again!!!

  • This is such a great song and great video to go along with it. I grew up in western North Dakota and the BNSF footage really reminds me a lot of home. Thank you so much for the posting.

  • I haven't heard this song in ages, and I just looked it up. Great scenery to go with the record.

  • Thankyou very much. This video brings back memories of some better times in a rather confused childhood - the song, of course, is all that was there. It was My peace and My inspiration. And it inspires Me now. Am I too old to become a train operator?

  • I remember this song from when I was a little kid, sitting with my grandma by the campfire, eating fresh-from-the-oven cookies. This song brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.

    Cheers!

  • I'm sending this to my son-in-law to show to my grandson, Colin.

  • Brilliant Video! Thanks so much for sharing! Denise

  • this number has a really nice ritm i love it, it makes me so happy:D

    nice video btw

  • It's so wonderful that a song and some video can take so many of us back to our childhood, and that it touches us so deeply. It just goes to show what programs like Captain Kangaroo meant for so many of us. GOOD STUFF!!!

  • Say, was this on CAPTAIN KANGAROO? If so I'm gonna be TRIPLY impressed with the Captain and that show! Thanks, niceone213 - enlightenment is always a good thing!

  • Yes...I remember this from Captain Kangaroo in the mid-70s. Have not heard this since then!! Almost makes me want to cry!

  • The Captain Kangaroo vid, from what I understand, was with all steam engines. I kind of modernized it!

  • @MysticVideo Yeah, I remember the CPT Kangaroo one well. They used scene from a Union Pacific RR documentary on their largest steam locomotives. MAN, would I love to those visuals again with this song like that version. No slam on this one, it's great, I just remember those massive steam engines on that old versions...

  • wasn't this on sesame street?

  • A video with this song was on Captain Kangaroo ages ago.

  • @tarheel8494 yeah.i remember this on the show sesame street.i forgot about that until you brought back the memory.lol.i do remember this from a show on sesame street?good memory tarheel8494.lol.

  • awsome song and nice vid btw.

vid makes my day good :D

The thing that I notice here is that passenger transport in the U.S seems to be underdeveloped in comparison to Western Europe. In particularly in comparison to the Netherlands which has the most densely used railways on the continent.. and probably in the world.

  • steam engines are better

  • I like my diesels! :)

  • ik niet

  • Eigenlijk is dat niet waar de treinen die nu rijden zijn veel better

  • dissels are better seens ther easer to control

  • @suwhit yes they actually were--we have technology now which could make a new steam era..powerful viable and ...less polution etc...

  • @suwhit Diesels are better.

  • no video has given my 3 year old son more pleasure in the past year than this one. thanks!

  • Thanks, I'm glad he enjoys it! Maybe we have a future railfan there!

  • Where did you find this track? I can't locate any performances by Albert Hammond himself. And, yes, I too was struck by the fact that I heard this when I was 2 years old and it left an indelible mark on my musical mind. I only recently rediscovered it. Thanks!

  • Myself and my sis sing this in the pub when a session is on, every1 loves it!! Fair play to u, absolutely great song and u put a great vid to it!!

  • it probably took these guys 3 minutes to write this song..lol

  • However long it took, they came up with a catchy tune that lots of people enjoy and remember. Can't argue with success!

  • thanks for this post. Some of the train footage reminds me of western North Dakota and eastern Montana where you see coal trains that stretch for miles. Great song from the Captain too. Life is all about Mr. Moose and the ping pong balls! If you can handle life's surprises, you'll do just fine.

  • I used to listen to this song quite often many many years ago:D It really is an "Earwig"(?) and keeps sticking in the head ... Great video!

  • Great footage and a great choice of track lol!

  • This has to be one of the best train videos on YouTube. I loved the song too, had sort of a "Simon & Garfunkle" feel to it.

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

  • I've been wishing all my life that I could hear that again. I remember it from Captain Kangaroo when I was little, and never forgot it. Thanks very much.

  • Oh My God...I had forgotten about this song..This one and "Free Electric Band" are some of Albert Hammond's best songs..Everybody else probably knows him best by "It never rains in Southern California"

  • Me too. The captain showed a Union Pacific steam engine. Great years no Barney.

  • Used to hear this alot in the early 70s out west in Denver. Thanks for the post. I never knew who sung this one but its great, good video too.

  • My kids loved this as babies -- couldn't find it anywhere, though I knew we had seen it on Captain Kangaroo -- it's so lovely, about connections . . . bless you, Mr. Hammond, and those who posted . . how wonderful that new generations will see this joy.

  • This song is an all-time favorite! I could listen to it 24/7...and a nice video montage as well. Well done and thanks!
