I haven't heard this song in at least 35 years. Yes, I know this from Captain Kangaroo back in the 1970s. For all these years, though, I thought at the end he was saying "I'm a-flyyying!". LOL
This song drives me nuts. How come he says "chook-a train?" Combining the onomatopoeia with the rest of the lyrics is just so weird; for some reason it rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's because this song always gets stuck in my head. Actually, besides this one point I think it's a great song. Nice video, too, and nice footage. Thanks for posting!
Wow, I haven't heard this song in about 30 years (age 6 or 7) from Captain Kangaroo. Wish I could see that original steam engine video fro the song used on the show. However, this is fantastic as well. Love the random Mexican song ending and interesting how Hammond's voice now reminds me of Noddy Holder from Slade, especially the ending.
"F"in AWESOME!!! This was one of my favorite songs back in the 70's and it never fails to rev me up - something about the Spanish/Calypso beat, I guess! So Great to get to hear it again! And, that one far shot of ALL those cars hooked up to the Head Cab! Wow!

I agree, I like the steam locomotives too, especially when this song was played on Captain Kangaroo with footage of the Union Pacific Big Boy Steam Locomotives, that was so cool.
Captain Kangaroo.. That was a silly show, but that's where I heard this classic as well.. We‘re getting OLD. Great song. I'm a train Chicka, Chicka, Chicka, Chicka Train OHooooo yeah!
This was the very first non-children's song I ever had. My parents bought me the single of this song when it came out... I had been looking for this song for decades, but could never find it. Here it is... wow... great find!

This is such a great song and great video to go along with it. I grew up in western North Dakota and the BNSF footage really reminds me a lot of home. Thank you so much for the posting.
Thankyou very much. This video brings back memories of some better times in a rather confused childhood - the song, of course, is all that was there. It was My peace and My inspiration. And it inspires Me now. Am I too old to become a train operator?
I remember this song from when I was a little kid, sitting with my grandma by the campfire, eating fresh-from-the-oven cookies. This song brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.

@MysticVideo Yeah, I remember the CPT Kangaroo one well. They used scene from a Union Pacific RR documentary on their largest steam locomotives. MAN, would I love to those visuals again with this song like that version. No slam on this one, it's great, I just remember those massive steam engines on that old versions...

The thing that I notice here is that passenger transport in the U.S seems to be underdeveloped in comparison to Western Europe. In particularly in comparison to the Netherlands which has the most densely used railways on the continent.. and probably in the world.
