  • my question is why do you shoot a pic in auto white balance and then set it to custom white balance. Wouldn't that be the same as using your auto white balance setting in the same situation?

  • @skor35 - with the WBLC or Expo Disc I found I could use either AWB or custom WB for the initial exposure shot. If you follow the review link in the description you can see the test images I took with the lens cap.

  • @ajwood2001 hmm, I guess since you are taking a picture of nothing but the white in the sceen you want to shoot make the difference in using the AWB to take to shot you set as you CWB. It was just confusing to wonder why would you take a pic in AWB just to set it as your CWB. NIce pictures and showed me it really does work. Thanks!

  • How good is it?

I'm thinking of getting one for myself but i do not want to spend $45 for something that makes little to no difference.

Can you compare it to a white/grey card?

    Thanks heaps

  • @Blober112 - you can view some sample images using the link I provided in the description above. This unit is very similar to the Expo Disc. I find these devices work very well compared to a card. For quick setup & go, it's hard to beat.

  • @ajwood2001 Sorry to not have read the description first :S

Those sample shots are very nice but i don't see much difference from shooting in daylight white balance and using the cap. Sure it's a little better, but not a $45 improvement.

Maybe i could pick up a cheaper one from Ebay or something? there are some that look exactly like this like one for around $7.

Sorry to ask so many questions - I'm a beginner and i look up to experienced photographers like yourself :)

  • @Blober112 - I can appreciate a budget. Yes, you could certainly find one on eBay or something like it. Do I think it's worth $45? In my case, I've made my money on it so it was a good investment. It's always on my camera so I never forget it. I don't have to have someone hold it so I can set my white-balance. Overall I've been happy with it.

  • can u remove the cap after u set the custom white balance?

  • @cashbarac Yes, once the white balance is set, then you simply fire away without the cap on.

  • Nice. Good and helpful video :)
