Where do you think the technology employed by your hospitals leading to your low infant mortality comes from? I don't see the latest techno-gadgets (such as iPads) coming from Australian companies. Don't get me wrong, Australia is a great country and does a lot of things right, but the technology and innovations that run the world are still mostly products of the US, especially in the health care industry.

Thanks for the laugh! Both government and the private sector can be brilliant or foolish. The government has accomplished some remarkable things, too. Consider NASA, The Manhattan Project, the Internet (which began as the ARPANET), the interstate highway system, and there are many, many others.

@Rockhouse2008 The fundamental problem with government-run enterproses is that they never go away. In fact, the more inneficient the are, the more funding they tend to receive. They have no incentive to improve. On the other hand private firms have an incentive to offer good products and services because if they don't they die. I don't understand why this is so difficult to understand for some people.

The economy didn't go into the tank because of big government - that's just a red herring to pass the blame - it tanked because biggest and best private firms don't know how to handle their own money... and it sucks for sure but Obama and the gvnmt didn't create the high unemployment rate, private firms did - what to do?
