That's neat. In years to come, you'll value this video so much. My boys are now men and I would give anything to have a special moment like this on video when I was learning to fly back in late 70s.
At the one minute mark your son is standing in front of a wide open throttle saw blade. Very unsafe. If that prop comes off or if the plane jumps the holding bars he could be seriously hurt. Never run a rc engine with someone standing in front or to the side of the prop. ALWAYS BEHIND!!! Very dangerous.
man keep your finger out of the lens i couldnt consontrate also i give my congrates to the dad first time i did it i broke the wing on the right and bent the wheel
Nice job! Love the commentary by your son and his reaction while in flight! I have a 7 year old son and we are just starting. Would be interesting to see how you have progressed in 2010!
Well, I got pretty good at flying this plane but then managed to land it in the top of the tallest tree in the video. It appears that it is hard to judge the hieght of trees based on the size of the plane...ha... A storm knocked it down from the tree a week later but It is no longer with us now as it was destroyed. I flew my other trainer and did a nose dive into a dirt pile. Another one bites the dust! Since .. I have built another but I don't have the heart to fly it. Plane for sale now...lol
a bit hairy at the start mate but you did very well!!! got the heart going i bet lol. at least it was only a prop that broke, easy fix . that's the hardest thing i reckon....maiden flight and trimming the damn plane lol, after that no worries!!! good flight buddy.
@djlat yeah i know mate. i try to trim the plane properly....then once flying straight, land it, and take note where the control surfaces are sitting. because sometimes the plane won't fly straight with the control surfaces level. so make a note on where each one sits after level flight and next time you will be able to set it up in those positions before take off, unless your radio has a trim memory.
On take off let it gain more speed before rotating.. you can see how early you tried taking off you actually made the plane do a "wheelie" that should never happen... let it gain enough speed to where you BARELY pull up on the elevator and it should take off.
By not doing so, your putting yourself, others and your plane in harms way!!
Model aviation is a privilege and and should be done safely at a field intended for model airplane flying. By not doing so, your putting that privilege at risk for us r/c pilots who do things the right way!!!!
Good job, my friend! Your recovery at the beginning was great...funny, too. I remember the "crap in my pants" nervousness I felt when I first soloed RC. Very soon you will be quite good. Keep it up!
I like how he trys to shut his son up turn off camera its just a broken prop its not crashed haha leave the kid alone wish you would have smashed it would have been more exciting.
that was sooo great that i dont know even have words for you my friend!!! that was almost identical to my first few flights. that nervous feeling you had in your belly when you were out of controll at first is like some kind of drug isnt it?! it all feels like a dream when its over. great job and dont let any of these bad comments from some of these "know it alls" get to you.
now the only thing i have to say is that the one guy was right about standing in front of the plane when you're testing
I can see you've never seen a prop come off a plane at full throttle. NEVER stand in front of a plane and test the engine. And always restarin the plane by hand, even on the stand, when running up the engine. You were lucky this time.....don't be sorry the next. And just two more words for you, buddy box.
Good Work! Nice save in the beginning...did you use any sort of training before this flight? (simulators, training instructors) After several discouraging flights, including a few new props and a horizontal stabilizer, im finally getting the hang of mine...
Thanks, Yes I have a sim but I just got a new transmiitter (Used Hitech eclipse 7)for this flight and it had the expo set at 80% so was very hard to fly the first time. Read the manual first I guess...ha
Nice flight..I would recommend an RC Simulator..donno if u have 1 or not but to be honest i cant fly a trainer plane like yours (landings the hardest with the way the wheels are positioned) i can fly the Yak-54 Pretty good and landings a breeze..but u might as well keep trying with your trainer plane. Also it was scary watching ur son step infront of the plane when u were testing throtle when the plane looked like it was about to take off..haha
Landing down wind, first time, to come off with just a broken prop, well done hombre!

A few suggestions,
1. NEVER stand in front of a plane while it is running!!! The spinning thing called a prop is like a like a spinning razor blade!!!
2. Get an AMA membership and join a club and get some instruction via buddy box!
