Thank you, Square's A Team, for making the masterpiece that would kick off one of the best video game series of all time. Oh... yeah... and thanks for entertaining me as far back as 1990.
i love the first final fantasy back on famicom, but it's generally regarded as being an awful game because of it's complexity and how tedious it was to do anything. 2 was a much improved game, yet without any drastic changes since it was also from the NES era
I have heard a dozen versions of this song hundreds of times, and each time takes me back to the day I got this NES game at launch from Target in Waterloo, Iowa. At first I was disappointed that the game came with no black sleeve like most NES games at the time. Once I started playing Final Fantasy games, I would spend the next twenty years of my life wishing I could cross that bridge again for the first time.
I hate this game. It totally ruined the Final Fantasy franchise. The plot, graphics, and gameplay just couldn't live up to the nothing that came before it. Honestly, the FF franchise has sold out. It was SO much better when it didn't exist.
@SergeantLuke well this the FIRST final fantasy on the entire franchise... now thats what i call success! start small and next thing you know its a multi million dollar game its like a light bulb then hello computers
@livekillers I'm only joking. This game is awesome. I was making fun of all the classic FF fanboys who love to criticize every new game in the series as "not living up to the ones before it".
This is REAL Final Fantasy. Not this teen angst love FMV movie ultra slick graphics, crappy pop music, mainstream, aimed at 13 year old girls, uninspired crap!
I'd have to give full credit to The Legend of Zelda for hooking me into the fantasy genre, but this game cemented it into my psyche. I got about 1/2 way thru this game and FF2 came out for SNES.
FF2 is my favorite console game of all time (yea, i know, i'm old). That game blew me away as a kid. To this day, the music of FF1, 2, and 3 evoke strong nostalgic feelings and warm fuzzies.
Anyone else think the second theme is a bit reminiscent of the end credits theme in A Link to the Past? You know, the one playing while they show images from Hyrule.
This... better than the remakes... imho... can we get the sequals on VC please... no... no... DS remakes... just the sequals on the NES... in English if possible... only i wait for this.
Just thinking that this game was called Final Fantasy because Square was ruined, and that they made such a heartfelt intro song like Prologue, it makes me really smile
And so began one of the greatest series of stories ever told, a series that quite frankly every time I hear that Prelude or Prologue theme makes me have a tiny little orgasm.
When I first heard that introduciton song after you first beat Garland and save the useless princess, it was one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard, even to this day
I was only really into video games as a kid, which was around the time the NES came out (and later I played the Sega Genesis and the N64, but after that my interest in video games kind of petered out). Most people I know started with FF7, and I always meant to get around to playing FF6 but I never have the time.
@Lightness1882 Like me,I played a bit of the ff8 demo and moved on to dissidia and crisis core.Even if I did play the origionals I would probably not know where to get the more important items, much less know what they do.
@Lightness1882 Here in Europe the FF series never was a big thing: the first FF released here was VII in 1997.
I never heard much about the series myself and that's why I started with it as late as Jan 2010. Since then I played through the games in that order: I, III, IV (easytype), V, VI, IV (hardtype), VII (not finished yet).
I played all of them in their original versions (via emulation/fan translations)
For some strange reason I'm not enjoying VII as much as everyone else does.
@bla287 Not sure about the rest of Europe but Final Fantasy is huge here in England. So much so that Nobuo Uematsu's Distant Worlds tour sold out the Royal Albert Hall in a matter of days.
@AnnatarYoung Yeah, things are a bit different nowadays of course: If Wikipedia is right then the first time that Uematsu's music has been performed live outside Japan was even here in Germany at a game music concert (Leipzig 2003).
I was rather thinking about pre-FFVII days. I grew up on the SNES with Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong etc. but I didn't hear about FF until some years ago, neither did any of my friends back then.
@bla287 Well it certainly took alot longer to reach us than other titles but mark me, Final Fantasy exploded here with the release of VII and the Final Fantasy series is still massively popular here.
What's the theme from 0:37 called?
I've heard it in FF III and IV but I just don't know what it's called
