I bought "Play/Record" on cassette way back, not having heard a note of her music, and there was a completely different album inside by another singer...a rather fabulous one too! Unfortunately I have never found out who the artist was. I quite liked Compact's rather arch style, but this was an album of lush romantic Euro ballads that I fell in love with immediately. Can anyone shed any light?

I was curious to hear what this woman sounded like since I had hear that her style was something on the order of "John Barry (of Bond film compositions' fame) meets new wave."
Well this must have been a transitional phase because it is without doubt, terrible.
It was an interesting side note to see the tragic Paula Yates introduce her: one train wreck introducing another.....

That's a Swedish audience, so the politely grouchy applause you're seeing at the end is actually their equivalent to a massive spontaneous orgy.
I don't know, her singing is bad, but I like bad singing if it has character -- this is pop music after all. What is "good" singing, warbling like Mariah Carey? The deadpan shtick doesn't work here but I can see how it might on an album if the other musicians carry her through. The song has something O.M.D.-ish and depressing about it.
Verna Lindt was never supposed to be a dextrous musician. In the early 80's people with 'an idea' got record deals.
It was all part of the punk-ethos that had permeated pop-music then. There was no 'slick', no big budgets, no groomed-for-stardom-nonsense and people had a sense of humour back then. Strawberry Switchblade, Propaganda, Gina X, Vicious Pink were not about being dextrous and being off-key was nothing to be ashamed of.
I bought both her albums in the 80's but this is the first time I have ever seen her perform...and she's TERRIBLE!

it was performed live on 'The Tube' in the heart of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne so i suspect there are rather more geordies in the audience than swedes.
