I've never liked Katz and this video supports my feelings. What an arrogant SOB! Unfortunately my suspicion is that it takes that sort of arrogance to succeed.

Psychological portraits are not pre-determined. That is caricature. And compared to Rembrandt, Katz is a very small artist indeed, ahem...But whatever makes him feel bigger than he is is OK. We've all got to get up i the morning.

That's about the dumbest criticisms I have ever heard anyone say about Rembrandt's portraits - and why Alex Katz's paintings are very bourgeois, flat, and boring. He is a painter of very limited skill.
