at the 2:35 mark that is #18 Buwalda with Probert on the ice just feeding him. Those 2 fought 3 times at the Hamilton training camp before probert was traded to the Soo!
Whatta gem....i played in the good Old Mountain Arena about 2 hours after this donnybrook. Probie vs Dalgarno is an instant classic....too bad Dalgarno got his face caved in about 3 years later when he fought Joe Kocur. Kocur was tough as fuck....but Herbie Raglan of the Blues gave him a nice fucking tune up. It's on youtube.
This is from Global Televeisions game of the week from the 1984-85 season. Global did the game of the week from I beleive 1982-83 or 1983-84 up till the mid 1990's.
@mikeyt62 the year was 85 one could argue the best team never to win the mem cup as that was the year the soo set the ohl record for most home ice wins in a season with 33... it was a 66 game 33-0 at home 21-11-1 on the road
Dalgarno was drafter 6th overall in 85. Prior to the Probert fight he was predicted to go mid-first round...somewhere around 15th or 16th. While its true that he went earlier in the first round because of how well he did against Probert in this fight (despite giving up a couple of years of experience and about 30lbs of weight to Probert), he would still have been a first rounder without the fight.
It really looked like the refs jumped in just as Probert was getting started, didn't really look like Probert had any extra weight on Dalgarno. But then again can never really tell with all of the equipment.
do you have the video of the greyhound and brantford alexanders brawl where probie took on two guys at once and I think maybe fought the goalie on the bench. Not too sure about the goalie part. But seem to remember the two teams and probie vs 2 guys at once.
i mean he could have beaten any fighter from the 70-s, duh. the players you name got lucky, maybe probie was up fro 2 days prior to the game. yes in his prime he would beat anyone from any era. no question. barry melrose says "any era", i belive him
Barry Melrose didn't fight him so his words don't qualify as "expert" either. You can believe him if you like but I've seen Crowder beat Probert (more than once). Everyone can have an off night, sure but to be lauded as #1 of all time? Not going to agree with that statement. Pound for pound...I'm still going with Kocur. Thanks for qualifying your 70's statement. Cheers.
Kocur and Probert fought a few times, most times it was a draw. Cannot really say one is better than the other, don't really know if Kocur was the best pound for pound fight out there. Many TRUE fighter from the 60's and 70's would probably kill most of the fighters from the 80's, 90's, and definitely the 00's.
oh my goodness!! where are their visors???

probert will always be #1 . from the 70-s till present, no one could beat him. (we dont know what twist would have become??)

Probert...#1 fighter from the 70's? Yeah...right. He was the best all round fighter in minor Pee Wee. LOL!
He was born in 1965.
He was a great fighter...no question but #1? Very debatable. I saw him lose lots of fights. Troy Crowder beat him. Domi beat him.
Nobody is, or will ever be unbeatable.
I think Kocur was a better fighter than Probert pound for pound. Nobody hit as hard as Kocur. Anyone who has fought him will tell you that.
