depends on what you're training for. basically back when i recorded this, we were just working on punch combos. Was also pretty new, but there are other mitt drills specifically to work the head movement. The mitt person would throw a jab, and you would slip left, counter 3, 2, etc. etc.
i took Muay Thai for a year and a half and i can say i didn't learn shit. Now i'm more tactical and learning to break fighting down to a science. All we ever did in class was just stand in front of the Thai pads and throw combos, but when i went to fight i would constantly get hit. Idiot coach.
yeah, i mean mitts won't help you dodge shit, you will have to spar. It helps you work on technique, but if it's one thing that improves you the most is sparring. did you get to spar a lot? this was when i first started, and i was just learning how to throw combos
we did a good amount of sparring. I did well because i was very fast and strong, but i lacked strategy. Without strategy all you are is a brawler. I learned more Muay thai from a Rob Kaman video than i did from my instructor.
LOL! i watched rob kaman vids too. i'm assuming you are gone from there? yeah, i am very amateur. I learned some kickboxing from vids and boxing from friends. these were the days where i thought i was crazy and was just training on my own to box. there are some known gyms around my area, so I'm gna try and get serious. All my corner tells me is jab! use that jab! jab!!! and we'd both be eating jabs and i would get countered... strategy is a big deal.
be careful with getting hit in the head and eyes. When you get hit in the head your brain rattles and it kills brain connection. Your eyes, Sugar Ray Leonard had two detach rectna from getting hit and you will go blind if you don't have surgery. You really can learn so much from the video, especially on Youtube. Once you have the basic then you can learn just by watching. Are you doing MMA or boxing?
that's not how to hold mitts... you gotta meet him punches as a shock absorber for the both of you.
