i've been reading and enjoying Richard's work since I first read one of his pieces in CREEM Magazine in '73 (I was a 13-year-old still learnin' things then.). I 've purchased his books, clipped his newspaper articles, bought the EP by his punk band Vom (still got after 32 years),listened religiously to his radio show Hep Cats From Hell ('79-'81). My friend's mom hated his book on ugly buildings. And he lived in my town (L.A.) for 2 decades. An acquired taste, sure, but I think he's the greatest.
@Durandal1717 Whenever I need some inspiration, I take The Night (Alone) off my shelves, go to any chapter and read it. My copy still has the Rhino Records $19.00 price sticker on it (actually there's 4 of them)--It was well worth the price.

@CinemaCinder ever read his "novel" The Night (Alone)? Probably still my favourite by him. Unsung legend for sure
