It was what it was, and I look back on these childhood shows without any regret. They were great times to be a kid, even when we went without! Love em all!
I remember this! I spent about ten minutes on Google to find this cartoon and then I knew I'd find it on Youtube! That is what Youtube is for: reliving memories! I am 32, remember seeing this about 25 years ago. I had to see it again. Thank you for uploading it and thanks for the memories.
General Mills was the primary sponsor (and OWNER) of the series when it originally aired on NBC; when they began syndicating it in the '70s, through their ad agency's "DFS Program Exchange", they usually added several of their other sponsored/owned cartoons produced by Total Television in the '60s {"Go-Go Gophers", "Klondike Kat", et. al.} as "filler".
Only problem is, as badass and noble wolves truly are, back then they were portrayed as scraggly and slobbery. Hell, the ONLY heroic wolf I knew during that time was in the Sunday Comics: The Phantom's pet wolf, Devil. They NEVER made a cartoon out of The Phantom during the '60s (wish they would've, though), but if they did, they probably would've turned Devil (a beautiful looking wolf, at that) into something like a Husky or German Sheppard (like they did in the 1940's serial).
The thing that always killed me was the transformation: Samson became a stronger version of himself, while Goliath--his DOG--turned into a LION. Waddup?! Been trying to figure that out ever since. LOL!
I was watching that since I was a kid and pretended my dog and I were Samson and Goliath, yet I never thought about the fact that a dog turned into a cat until you guys pointed it out.
FINALLY! Now I know what this show was called. I have had that wristband smash in my head for years but I could never figure out what show it was from.
Plus: A DOG that becomes a CAT?!! How demeaning (For the cat)
Nossa esse desenho era muito legal!eu ja tinha me esquecido dele. Poxa o tempo passa mesmo mas o youtube faz voltar.

That's toons for ya. Try to expect the unexpected.
In modern times, Goliath would've become an Arcanine, a Houndoun, or Saberwulf. I don't see how a dog could become a lion. Never did understand that.
Still, it was all fun to watch.

Ok, Sampson becomes a gay superhero. I get that. But changing the dog into acat? That's just WRONG! :)

strange question. How come this cartooon was not included in Hanna Barbara's World of Super Adventure? It would seem a natural fit...

HE-MAN!!!

@garotaquepensa
Actually PREDATES "He-Man" by 16 years. Hanna-Barbera was way ahead of the curve (and Filmation--"He-Man"'s 'home'--was still only 2 years old.).

Regular house cats suck thats why they didnt have one of those turn into the lion. This cartoon is from back in the day. A boy and his pet cat=gay.

I never seen this cartoon but after watching the intro now I know where the He-Man creators got the ideas for their main characters.

So, lemme get this straight, Samson's super power is to transform into a gayer version of himself?
And I have the same questions everyone regarding the whole "Dog into Lion" trick.

@KAKALXLAX
TV seems to be all about A boy and his dog, versus a boy and his cat.
Seems we'll have to blame Lassie for that one.
yellowcougar18 1 year ago
@KAKALXLAX Or maybe the dog should've turned into a wolf.
