Halo 2 was disconnected because they already have too many halo game servers to look out for. That and original xbox live was shutting down everything.

The third reason is that they are making a halo 2 remake

Halo 2 for PC is just as good! I just picked it up recently for $20 and Matchmaking still works! I have a FiOS 35/35 Line and running a dedicated server. If you got a 360 USB Controller then you are all set. LONG LIVE HALO 2!!!!!!

My understanding was that if you had an account that had any Halo 2 games played on it at any time, then you will get some kind of unlockable armor or something like that. Not sure though, Bungie hasn't mentioned it in a while. Hope this helped!
