  • been here, great place to see, recommend to all

  • Is there an admissions fee into the museum?

  • @Tony63909

It cost $12, when I went in 2009.

  • @houndawgg1 Thanks. Is it worth it?

  • I believe your referring to the emeralds that were under a black light, I guess so you could see their depth

  • Sensational video. I really enjoyed it. Just one thing. There were several items that were exposed to very thin light. Is there a reason why?

  • @Tony63909 maybe to recreate the lighting in the water where it was found

  • @interstategar Unlikely because the intrigue of the objects would serve as an incentive to have greater lighting, but I do not know for sure.

  • @Tony63909 I've been there, the lighting is dim in some of the displays especially the silver ingots. they clearly are trying to simulate the ocean bottom

  • @interstategar Thankyou for the verification. Initially when the theory that Fischer was simulating the lighting of the ocean bottom was introduced, I dismissed it because I concluded that it would take away from the beauty and appreciation of the artifacts. How often does a person have a chance to see such treasures? I would have thought that they would have put more emphysis on the treasure and not how it looked underwater.

  • @Tony63909 Visit the museum. It has lots of layers of imformation. You can watch a short film about the history

of the hunt, find, and legal battle to keep all of it, a section about the different cargo other than the treasure, the history of the Spanish fleet the Atochia was part of and why they were in that part of the world, and ofcourse the treasute display, and the real deal gift shop items up to almost $1 million for 1 item. Its a total experiance. Go thethere if you ever get a chance.

  • @interstategar I had read somewhere that the sterncastle of the Atocha where the bulk of the treasure was stored has not yet been found. Did the museum address this?

  • @Tony63909 At the museum gift shop where I bought my authentic piece of 8 silver, my sales lady mentuonedthat for $7500 I could buy a share of where they are bringing up mostly emeralds. Mel Fisher before he died said the emeralds listed on the manifest were worth more than the gold and silver. I suggest you call the Museum regarding your question. They are still going working the wreck. The break up of the vessel was more than 10 miles long if I remember correctly.

  • @interstategar I appreciate the info. Thankyou!!!!! This museum is as mysterious as the Atocha itself because with the hundreds of millions of dollars in gold that was recovered from the wreck site, why would Mel Fisher seek investors to recover emeralds before he died?

  • @Tony63909 Its very simple, to cover operating costs to salvage. Mel Fisher always had investors, even before he found the Atocha. They have rights to the 1715 vessel they found I think off the coast of NC. The Fishers never operated 100% independently. The Fishers have a percentage share of their salvage company. Nothing has changed the way they raise capital since Mel first started looking for treasure back in the 70's i beleive.

  • Thanks for the vid!! I got there at 6pm the book said they closed at 9pm, but They just closed... You saved me the admission fee, Thanks!!!
