  • thats fucking sick nice job!

  • Holy crap, this is one of the most coolest things I've ever heard! Congratulations!

  • does it require speakers? how does it output sound?

  • crazy

  • awsome

  • hi, can some1 give me some advise?

i would like to make some music/beats with some kind of synth without using the computer programs like Frutty Loops, is that possible??

i never used a synth though

i already looked around and thought of getting a kaossilator

    what would you recommend me?

    can anybody help me plz?

  • @Zeckeee yeah i can help you, don't buy this, really, it'scrap.. i have one now

  • @Zeckeee Kaossilator is basically a toy...but with some imagination it can end up like this. If you want a proper instrument get a Kaossilator Pro instead...

  • Ha, You've done this just a little I see. Really nice to share with us here. I just discovered these things and am dumbfounded. They will be here Monday. Guess one is never too old to learn new things. Thanks again.

  • 240p, so we meet again...

  • @kitedh But it doesn't really matter does it? I'm surprised people still give that comment thumbs up, it's on about 60% of the 240p videos on youtube...

  • I want one !

  • what happens to his thumb @ 2:17??

  • you sir, are a epic win for the human species

  • I had forgotten about the kaossilator for a few months now.

Was going through my old favorite videos.

Oh yeah. THIS is why I wanted one of these.. because of YOUR VIDEO. lol

  • its no longer free right?

  • cool as f/uck

  • nice track! how did you get your stuff on itunes??

  • ¡My mother!, a magic device under magic hands...

  • 0:25 THE TUNE IS AWESOME!!!

  • a download is no longer available at revernation :( where can I get one?

  • Convinced me to buy one

  • My Kaossilator is supposed to come tomorrow, but its midterm week...goodbye grades

  • I just ordered me one. Cannot wait to play with it.

  • Bought the album on iTunes today, it's awesome! Loaded in to my iPod, and will entertain me on my flight home :) Keep up the good work!

  • @Martzoerst I'm incredibly flattered. And thank you so much for your purchase. I've other music, some for free streaming or download at gkibler.com. Much of this is my commercial and soundtrack work which isn't so electronica-based but you may enjoy nonetheless. Cheers again for wonderful comments. Best, -Gary

  • beautiful job, man!

  • I would seriously have this video playing on loop in the background while I play Abe's Oddesy.

  • very very nice! I Love it!

I ve beewanting to do techno for a very ong time ad this has me sold on the kasosiloer. one question tho, can it connect o a computewr to record the music?

  • yes u can u just use line out on the korg to line in or mic jack on the comp then u can use sound recorder to render ur tracks to the hard disk.@JacobDeadman

  • I NEED IT.

  • You can remove loops that you add on by "fixing" the first loops that you want to save. then when you ad to it and it gets too much you can cancle those later loops and go back to your first saved layer

  • haha. this thing is so cool. im going to order one. it'd be great for a dj set.

  • 27 people didn't get what this video was actually about.

  • can you take loops off this? like as in when you record something but you want to simplify it and take parts out, can you remove recorded loops?

  • @heyshutupyou You can remove loops by "fixing" the first loops that you want to save. then when you add to it you can cancle those later loops and go back to your first saved layer and then add more again. So you can lay down a beat, Fix it then solo over it untill it gets to be noise and then cancle it back to the beat

  • can you take loops off this?

  • @heyshutupyou

You can only remove a loop that you have just recorded. once you have recorded the loop you keep your finger on record, and if you wanna remove it you can twiddle the nob and remove it, it's not the easiest process. Don't think you can choose which loop to remove after though, but I am still exploring, only just got mine.

  • hey, can you record an 8 bar loop with this thing?. . . I'm thinking about betting one for this purpose

  • @cc17201 you can record 8 BEAT loops. I think that is 2 bars of 4/4

  • that riff starting at 0:24 is awesome

  • havent you got funny thumbs...

  • awsome

  • pretty cool!

  • what is the name of the song?

  • cool vid... on a side note- stubby thumbs

  • Man I lost mine when I moved. This is making me so sad! I want my Kaossilator back! I'm going to break down and get a new one...or wait and get the pro.

  • can you upload the saved tracks to your computer?

  • @ise2222 YES YES YES

  • gooooooooood

  • I love this, as a KK newbie I'm inspired to do more like this. Thanks for the upload.

  • is the kassilator the same as the mini-kaoss pad ?

  • @litlekarim33 No! The Mini-Kaoss Pad processes sound inputs and does reverbs and delays and stuff. The Kaossilator actively produces musical sounds like a musical instrument. One must likewise not confuse the Kaossilator Pro (green lights) with the Kaoss Pad 3 that has the same casing (but red lights).

  • @litlekarim33 They look the same, but mini-kaoss pad is for sound effects, where as the Kaossilator is for making music.

  • All thumbs up !!

  • how do you record one of these? i have an ART usb dual pre audio interface to connect to my computer, but the kaosillator only has RCA outputs, and idk how to connect that to my interface. any help would be appreciated., thanks

  • @mattcav221 At the bottom end of the Kaossilator is a 1/8" stereo phono plug, for the headphones, so you can connect there too to record its output. I connect it to the aux. jack of my computer.

  • @Dracopol thanks for the advice, but one more question haha. if i were to use an RCA to 1/8 jack, would the sound quality be better, or would it not make a difference?

  • @mattcav221 I don't think it should make any difference. It matters what amplifier or equipment you hook the kaossilator to though...

  • I've got a Kaossilator, and that you did there was really skilled. Awesome.

  • How do you control all the volume levels of the layers so well?

  • @cjwaters9 There ARE no controls for the volume levels. Korg did a good job programming really good synth sounds and filter variation, and pre-adjusting the levels to compare well with each other. #35 is a bit overpowering though, and although it claims you can record infinite numbers of overdubs, of course you'll get a white-noise muddle after a while.

  • YYEEEEEAAAAAAEEEEAAAAAEEAAAAA....

  • I'm surprised that someone was actually able to make real music with that thing. I have one, and never thought it could be considered practical.

  • @gxddxmnxt making dnb or dubstep beats is quite easy once you get the hang of it acutally, dLy mode is the key :)

  • @gxddxmnxt Look up Adrian Bridger's video, kaossilator - electro session. He demonstrates a wide range of time critical techniques that takes it from ambient music to an active performance. Not bagging on garykibbler at all, still good. But that vid gives you an idea how far you can take it. my 2 cents.

  • Man, I want this thing soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What software did you use with your Kaossilator? I have been trying to figure out for a while.

  • @gotchalk108 This and all the tracks on my Yellow Album were recorded directly from the line outs to a Zoom handheld digital recorder, an H4 I think it is.

  • @garykibler So have you any plans to make an album using the Kaossilator Pro?

  • @FuturedaveyP Unfortunately no. There was some interest early on and Korg was supposed to get me a pre-release model but it didn't happen and now I've got too many other irons in the fire. Thanks for asking though.

  • @garykibler I know this is late, but I use Audacity with the line-out's going to my PC. Works pretty well. The pain is, you still have to have headphones plugged in to hear what you're doing.

  • @garykibler this is one of the best i have seen. What BPM and Scale are you using? Also, what Gate did you start in before switching to 24? Thanks for helping a newbie get his Kaos on and inspiring us all!

  • how much do these neatoooh contraptions cost? And where can i get my hands on one of these? thumbs up

  • @GODmanGODmanGOD theyre around 150 to 200 depending on where you order them from. i would suggest musiciansfriend , thats where i ordered mine from. hope that helps

  • @GODmanGODmanGOD there called Korg Kaossilator handheld synthesizer and the $200

  • :-)

  • like it!

  • @haunteddragon With a Kaossilator the instructions say they come with "test" batteries that may have a shorter than expected lifespan. They were indeed very cheap made-in-China alkalines. I would suggest you replace those with 4 rechargeable AA-batteries (rated 2650 mAh or more).

  • Some Kaossilator tips: Holding Scale and pressing Loop takes you immediately to the Program menu from anywhere else.

Also, in program d.84, hit the top edge of the touch pad anywhere, and wait. It produces a rising feedback. Stop it by pressing anywhere else or changing program.

  • is the mini kaossicaltor more accurate than the pro?

  • @rODIUMuk I haven't received the Pro that Korg had promised me (supposed to arrive sometime this week) but my guess would be that the Pro would be more "accurate" in the context of the grid of its touchpad, this based on its increased size.

  • @glkibler actually the larger touchpad on the pro takes some getting used to, but you have some nice additional options concerning the configuration of the pad.

  • Hey man buy a pink KS and make a pink album! :o

  • Dude thats impressive considering you don't use a grid.

  • @mrpeanut25 Not so much, because he was using a scale called Minor Pentatonic. In the key of C, there are only the notes C, D#, F, G, and A# in it, from the center to the edge. Mostly he was sliding from one note to the next. But you still have to develop a violinist's skill with that and with the even more note-filled scales to hit the right notes without marks.

  • @Dracopol Oh i didn't realise (my Kaossilator is still in the mail), but yea 5 notes would make it a bit easier to play :P

  • Awesome dude!

  • unspeakably awsome

    awsome job dude

    thanks for uploading this

  • this is great man, i put a review up on itunes. gives me some new inspiration for my own kaossilator keep it up! if you get a kaossilator pro put up some vids

  • nice one :D

  • This track is great, and great for practising too. In short: Gary Kibler: The Yellow Album - 01 "Arp A Type" 100 bpm, Minor Pentatonic, G.00 off Pre loop: C.54, Gate off L.02, G.00 Loop: L.13, G.00 P.91, G.24 L.06, G.00 C.54, Gate off
  • Wow, that's pretty impressive you were able to reverse engineer this. Obviously at the time I had all that info rehearsed out in my head but I never kept any notes. This and other tracks on the album, I'd be at a loss now to recreate without such instructions. Good job, v8bert!

  • @garykibler

Thanks for the kind words, Gary. You must be the first person ever to overestimate me. ;-)

First, you made a video, right? So I just wrote down what you do in it.

Second, I think maybe the L02, G.00 in the pre-loop doesn't really nail it, but I got tired, and just printed it like that. Good enough.

I think your track is a very musical one, and will also give people a great way to get acquainted with their new machine.

BTW thanks for helping me decide to buy one. It really helped.

  • @v8bert i love this song much! i bought a kaossilator pro 2 days ago trying to learn this stuff! do u know if these sounds also are in the kaossilator pro or do i have to make a remix of my own? im trying to duplicate songs from youtube

  • @v8bert You blew my mind right there.

  • Wow...just plain unbelievable. I'm ecstatic to discover all the insane possibilities of this thing after mine got delivered this afternoon...what a blast so far and I've clearly not even glanced the surface yet!

    Great tune!

  • awsome!

  • i rated 5 for verry awesome,, i don't even recognize these soundz and i have a kaossilator! definitely want to check out some of yur kaoss jams on itunes..

  • I got one today!

  • amazing

  • This is great stuff and I'm really tempted to get one of these.

One question I have is can you remove individual loops once they've been recorded?

Say you've recorded 4 loops on top of one another. Can you remove loop 2 without affecting 1,3 & 4?

The manual says this but I don't really get it: "During playback, if you hold down the LOOP REC/PLAY button and press the SCALE button, the phrase elements played when the SCALE button is depressed will be deleted" (??)

  • Each recorded layer is first placed in a buffer, meaning you can opt to back-out and re-record only the last track you recorded.

  • @glkibler

How do you opt out? can you do it in the 16 bar version?

  • Yeah, if you incorporate the 16-bar trick, the downside is it uses up that buffer space meaning there's no going back from anything you record, even from the last track you laid down.

  • @goonerballs As stated, opting out can't be done in the 16 beat mode (4 regular 4/4 bars). In 8 beat mode, you can: save stuff, delete everything, delete anything that was recorded since the last save. Stop the loop. Press and hold loop and scale buttons (hit loop button first). Display shows: ---- Turn wheel to: fix for saving, can for deleting all new stuff since last save clr for erasing everything Now release loop and scale buttons, and it's executed.
  • thanks for this, I tried to opt out before, but I thought FIX meant to erase the last thing you put down, its a shame you can't do it on the 16 beat mode though.. 8 beats just isn't enough.. I'll have to do some saving and get the kaossilator pro

  • @goonerballs

I'm with you both on 16 beat mode and on saving money for the Pro.

    8 beats is too short.

I tried making long loops by setting BPM to 30 or 60, but I haven't gotten that to work nicely (yet?).

Someone on YT wrote you'll always find a use for the small machines once you've bought the big ones, and I feel he may have been right.

    It much depends on drifting.

If the Pro takes a sound signal from the KO-1 and follows that beat, then everything is perfect.

Too much to hope for, maybe?

  • @v8bert

you can set it too 16! if you hold down loop function and bpm buttons at the same time when turning it on... it will say DLY. then go to loop length and it gives you the option to set it too 16. however when you do this... it no longer displays the 8 count...instead you count the loop out yourself to 16 and it will record it!!!!

there ya go... 16 bar beat!!!!! :D

  • @Amarcordband

Thanks for telling, but I think you may have been tricked by the new YT setup, because we know this and also mentioned it.

We were discussing that when one is in the 16 beat mode, that one has no possibility to discard the last layer(s), and that we want a Kaossilator that has that ability in the 16 beat mode too.

I think and hope the Kaossilator Pro will do it.

I'd much like a K. Pro that can do it even in 32 beat mode.

    Thanks anyway!

  • @v8bert ah i see... sorry. :D

  • @v8bert The Kaossilator Pro can do 16 beats! It will also sample sounds from a microphone and save your work on SD. It has 4 record buttons so that's like 4 separate Kaossilators.

  • @v8bert The instructions say that, if you dial down to a low beats per minute, the Kaossilator will automatically cut to Loop Length 4 and then Loop Length 2. It is just not possible to store a very long sound loop.

  • @Dracopol Thanks! I must have overlooked that sentence. So it must basically come down to using one of the BPM settings that use the most RAM - which logically should be those just above where the loop length is cut. I'll try and time them.

  • @v8bert Gee, doesn't anybody read any more? Lol. In the instructions section on Loop (Phrase) recording, it says, "within the range 300-75 bpm, the beat count (1-8) represents quarter notes; within the range 74.9-37.5 bpm, 1-8 represents eighth-notes; within the range 37.4-20 bpm, 1-8 represents sixteenth notes." So your optimum is at or above 75 bpm if you can make your own rhythms from scratch and try to double-time things.

  • @Dracopol LOL, yeah I kinda scanned the manual for non-obvious stuff, but apparently not carefully enough. It never seemed to matter either. The thing is SO easy to use.

Thanks muchly for the info. I'll dig into those low speeds now, guessing the special qualities of the sounds in that area can be made useful.

  • @TheAdLab you can with the new Kaossilator Pro that just came out its pretty much a bad ass Kaossilator and much better than this one, picking my new one up very soon. the Pro is like having 4 Kaossilators in one so you can dub as many sound bits into four differnent banks and then accept inputs from external mic or keyboard. very cool shiz :) anyone thinking of getting one I'd wait cuz for the extra 200 bones you get a LOT LOT MORE

  • @joshtits I hear you on the Kaossilator Pro, it looks awesome! £300 is a lot though (though it's worth the cash). Maybe I should just get 3 Kaossilators for the same price and run them through a mixer, ha ha ;-)

  • I would say if you don't have the money then get the Kaossilator for now, but you definatly are going to miss out on a LOT of updated and much needed features. I have been playing with the Kaossilator for just around a year now and I need more abilities to cut loops in and out as I need. but if you've never messed with anything like this before start with the 1st generation

  • Absolutely stunning, this is actually music unlike most Kaossilator videos!

  • fantastic jam, I was in a trance man!

  • a 'synth' has synthetic sounds [not real]...the kaossilator has synthetic sounds [not real] the kaossilator has changable scales, gate/arp and keys and a different way to 'play' notes..not keyboard or string based but x-y pad based..it's definatley a musical instrument and not a toy as some would have you believe, owning it will not mean 'anyone' can make good synth based music...just look around on youtube for that..some will 'make a noise' with it and other will make good music.

  • Comment removed

  • @cressheadYes, its easier to play than a conventional keyboard, piano or guitar, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't require any skills. You have to have good timing, a little knowledge of how to employ scales and a feeling for arranging parts and different sounds, since not every preset blends in with the others. Thats the main reason why some players simply produce "noise" with that thing.

  • Joined the site, there still is no download available.

  • he does play a real synth.

Kaossilator is a Synthesizer Pad and not a toy or whatever you believe it is.

Next time giving a commend to something please inform yourself properly before posting something like that ;)

  • Comment removed

  • So you don't count any digital synths (e.g. Korg Triton and friends) as real synthesizers?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrCavatassi If you made a guitar easier to play, it wouldn't stop being a guitar. The same thing applies with a synthesizer. Elitist attitudes are fun and all but they don't change the fact that anything that makes a noise is an instrument. A real one.

  • Think what you could do with the new Kaossilator Pro!

  • I have one of these and they are ace. I've worked out how to perform 'Tom's Diner' on it. I may upload it onto YouTube in the future if I can get good quality sound recording equipment.

  • Oh wow do I want one of these, haha
