  • do the sheels slide out easyer

  • There is a HUGE difference in these older model 66's and the newer models. For those who know what they're looking for, we know to totally avoid the bullshit they came out with that has the internal locking mechanism. There were also versions before that which utilize a blued style front site blade and carbon steel hammer and trigger with an altered design from the original older models. You couldn't GIVE me the newer design. I own a 66-1 made in 1978 with the same grip and it's bad as hell :)

  • How much is this Gun?

  • I still have my smith 66 2 1/2 . I have bought and sold alot of guns over the years but, this is one gun that I refuse to give up.

  • quero compra como fasso?

  • hm for one?

  • Guess you can't use clips with the flush cylinders then?

  • @JWY

well it depends on the gap between cylinder and frame in the back

  • Good ol .66

  • S&W Mod. 66 was the best handgun S&W ever made.

This is just my opinion, but I damn sure stand by it.

  • i can't get over this revolver... please put it back in production, i'll buy it brand new for a thousand dollars!

  • looking for that exact model now

  • @mrcottoncandyraper

you eat bugs and dirt, so

  • @GunWebsites Is there a practical differences between flush and recess? Would like to know.

  • @BarlowEnter

    not really

  • @BarlowEnter The term flush and recessed are the same. The cartridge goes all the way into the chamber and you can run your fingers over the cartridges once loaded and it is a smooth surface. The later models allowed the cartridge head to sit outside the chamber. My model 19-3's both have recessed cylinders while my model 14 and 15 are not recessed. I reload my own ammo and find that both are satisfactory.

  • i think the "look a like" model of this 66 is the current nightguard... ya think?

  • i assume it's slightly larger than the current 2 inch .357 model 60?

  • why did they stop the production? idiots, this is the prettiest revolver i have seen!

  • i want this gun.

  • i want a smith and wesson

  • why would you want to shoot a 357 bullet out of a small gun, the recoil is ridiculous.

  • @buckwheat40 Because I can carry it in an IWB holster without a 6" barrel going down my pants. I bought a Taurus 617 for concealed carry because when comparing it to .38 revolvers it had virtually the same outer dimensions other than a beefier barrel and frame. The recoil is only bad when you aren't expecting it.

  • @buckwheat40 Only if the guy is a wuss.

  • What style/frame is this? thanks

  • That's one of the nicer looking revolves I think. Alot of revolvers, like the .44 and the Peacemaker are ugly things.

  • I'm not a huge revolver guy, years ago I did own a S&W model 586 - 4" barrel and loved it. I really like this model 66. It is hard to find the quality and reliability of these revolvers anymore. What a gem. I know S&W made a 5-shot revolver also, not sure of the model # but it was a gem also. Great vid as always!

  • A Model 66 ( no dash ) was my first handgun and I regret selling it. Currently own a couple of J frames and a Model 586. The simplicity shouldn't be viewed as a negative. Highly reccomend these for beginning shooters and the reluctant spouse. Awesome firpower at hand

  • @ressikanflute I had one of these in the early 80's and I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it, it was a lot of fun to shoot, especially using .38 special cartridges. Mine did not have the adjustable rear sight, it was just sort of a u shaped notch cut into the top strap. I ever find another one being sold, I'll probably snap it up.

  • i saw one 357 around that size iand it had no hammer i didnt know what the hell was up with that..a revolver with no hammer

  • @lyfe1zruff These are Double Action Only designed for concealed carry ie pocket or waist band. Commonly J frame models like 442,642, 640 or larger K frames (Model 64 type security guard guns). Some have a shrouded hammer, but still offer the ability to cock the weapon and shoot single action (Model 649). Revolvers are thought of as passe and out of date. For in-experienced shooters like a reluctant spouse they are Unintimidating and simple to instruct and use. Highly reccomend

  • I have an old S&W Model 66, with a 4" barrel, that is my all-time favorite handgun. I carried it on-duty for years, and I have to say that as far as dependability, comfort, ease of use, and all round fun to shoot, the Model 66 is a real gem. I've always been fond of saying that I could shoot the hairs off a gnats a.. at 25 yards with that ol' revolver. Probably can't do that these days, but I still love to occasionally take it out for a spin.

  • @RobnPhx1 Mine is a model 66-1 wearing a 6" tube. Most definitely my favorite pistol.

  • There are only a few people in Canada who can legally own one of these, because of barrel length. I own a couple of snubbies, and the S&W is the best revolver. These things are amazingly accurate at under 10 yards. Just like pointing your finger. They kick much worse than a full size, and they make a lot of noise, but they're just fine for self-defense. Problem in Canada is, self-defense is not an absolute right, especially with a gun.

  • The revolver model 686 is better then this revolver. because the 686 has 7 shoots...;-)

  • Comment removed

  • yo where can i get one of those

  • This is good quality revolver, is strong made and a really good choice for every day carry gun, specialy if have also a couple speedloders.the recoil is not bad at all, probably any man can handle this without problem. any way 357 the best choice

  • thats a good weapon... I have one!

  • that is not a model 66, the Taurus model 66 has a 7 round capacity cylinder, not a 6 cylinder

  • @Driftingsiax The heading says S&W 66 (Smith and Wesson) not Taurus.

Taurus and S&W both make a model 66

  • Comment removed

  • do they have a safty on the cylinder

  • I like how it sticks out

  • yo men i was first time gun buyer. And i want to buy revolver with 357. bullets what do you suggest to buy best SMITH AND WESSON 66 OR SMITH AND WESSON 686

  • i am a relative newby - what characterizes hot load ammo - so i'll know what to avoid in order to protect the forcing cone on a s&w model 66, thanks,

  • @vandal6749

anything +P is a hot load. these just fire at a higher velocity producing more penetration, which isn't necessarily a good thing. keep in mind that a regular pressured 9mm can penetrate atleast 6 walls and still have enough force to kill.

  • They are not making this anymore because it's so popular? That's a strange on there dude.

  • i like the newer style personaly, lets you see whats there lol

  • Now I can't remember exactly how the stats were compiled, but I read an article ... that stated that civilians in USA use guns for self defense three times more than the police do.

...and I read that rape rates have reduced to negligible figures in areas where gun ownership was made mandatory

...and I read that violent crime in USA has reduced in the last ten years since CCW laws have been improved and more people start to carry guns.

  • the ruger super redhawk 454 casull shits on all revolvers

  • @cheeesefunnel Yeah sure it does... I'd love to see quick accurate fire out of a .454 casull. Hell of a bang though. .357 magnum IMO is the best revolver cartridge due to it's ability in guns to fire .38 special, some .38 super and .357 magnum rounds all from the same chamber. Sure I suppose you can fire .45lc out of a .454 casull but they would be so unwieldy in any situation I can imagine besides hunting or showing off.

  • @cheeesefunnel In what way?

.460 has much more power and can shoot .454 o4 .45 Colt.

500 has even more power than the .460

  • @RoughNeck205

    #1 so what?

#2 Why recite what you think might be what you think you read?

  • @GunWebsites he was just trying to prove the point that most gun 'accidents' are caused by empty guns.

  • @RoughNeck205 People have been killing themselves for over a thousand years. What is the point?

  • @RoughNeck205 Even more people kill themselves from a poor diet. You'll have an easier time fighting someone's ice cream away from them than taking their firearms. If gun laws were about public safety, you would have to get the same background check to get a driver's license as you do to get a gun. That would remove much more danger than any new gun law. So we can establish that gun laws ARE NOT ABOUT PUBLIC SAFETY! It's pure micro-management from poor leaders.

    exit(0)

  • @RoughNeck205 your point being?

  • @RoughNeck205 if you dont like guns why are you on here asshole i love guns its a fun sport

  • @RoughNeck205 I think I read somewhere that like 20,000 people died last year from lung cancer. Let's ban cigarettes.

  • @RoughNeck205 Hey buddy, NO ONE FUCKING CARES!

  • I've got a Model 19-2 and love it to death. Can't beat the old Smith revolvers.

  • @deussolinvictus im going to be picking up a couple smith .357's myself, pumped about 50 rounds out of a K frame the other day and absolutely loved it. heres my list of pieces to get

    Mossberg 590

    Arsenal SLR-31

    Mosin Nagant

    G21

    G30

    S&W .357 (still undecided)

  • Good review, I have the 66-3. It is my absolute favorite gun I own. Check my vid out. Mine looks just like yours. I have the original wood grips on mine, But I do have the pachmayr grips for it. Good review.

  • nice grips where did you find them?, i own a model 66 but still has the original wood grips.

  • Superb video GunWebsites,

All who love the S&W M19 Series appreciate your informative video.

    -But some of the comments !? ... -I just don't know !...

-But nothing could be worse than the very colourful 'Dinadanna'.

No, I didn't understand him either.

  • if you shoot somebody i bet it would cut them in half

  • nice lookin' blaster! The "grainy" film style is awesome and fits with the "old"S&W motif. And those are Pachy grips, right?

  • Enjoyed the video. Good job and thanks for posting.

I started carrying concealed with a Colt Commander 45 ACP. After about a year, I acquired a S & W 66 4-inch, and began alternating it with the Commander. I soon retired the Commander and now exclusively carry the S & W 66.

The "K" frame S & W's conceal much easier than auto pistols.

K-frames are practical, simple, tough, extremely accurate, totally reliable, with perfect ergonomics. Understandably unchanged and produced since 1899.

  • thanks, and thanks for the feedback from an owner

  • Gun control means hitting your target. Gang bangers and thugs will always get them as long as our borders can let illegals in, guns should be no problem. You can't take mine, I bought them legally and use them legally. Help America, go buy a gun! God Bless the U.S.!

  • Well its kinda funny how in the US you can pretty much own any gun you want from mini uzi to .50 cals. Notice that US has the highest murder rate with firearms in the world? And you think your god would want that? hahah dumb americans are funny

  • @ coopmuch56

Where do you get that info? How about you look up crime rates

other countries don't have the right to own firearms, that doesn't mean there is no crime or violence ..

Do some real research instead of having it fed to you by people with agendas

  • name one country where you can legally own a fully automatic sub machine gun ?

  • @ coopmuch56

    New Zealand, Finland, Switzerland, no?

  • @GunWebsites - that's 3 countries ;)

  • @GunWebsites:America too right lol?

  • Dumbass do you get your info from some fucked up cowboy movies? I certainly think so... So what would you suggest then? Restrict firearms in every country? YOu know what? Criminals don´t give a shit about that. If you prefer to cover your scared face with your hands in an attack rather then having a gun to protect yourself fine ^^. I´d like to see how you manage to get out of such a situation... It always depends on what you use the fiream for. For good or bad things.

  • Besides. YOu act as if every american citizen is a murderer now... I can only roll my eyes. I am jealous for the american people having the right to bare arms. They can protect themselfs and their loved ones and so forth. Try to fight a thug who´s armed with some karate shit ^^. A bullet is simply FASTER.

  • If there werent so many guns that americans can easily get there wouldnt be so many situations when your life is threatened by a firearm. Canada for example, strict laws for guns and they have less murders in the country in one year then just Detroit. Thats gotta say something..

  • @ coopmuch56

You are making things up again

Canada has one of if not the largest suicide rates, blame that on US guns ...

You hate guns, and make up facts to suit your needs

  • First of all, suicides has nothing to do with murder rates by a firearm. Second, Canada is far from the largest suicide rates in the world here are the first 10- Belarus Lithuania Russia Kazakhstan Latvia Japan Guyana Ukraine South Korea Sri Lanka

And even if Canada was in the top 10 which its NOT,what makes you think every suicide is by a gun ? I know of one person who commited suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide. Your an ignorant american.

  • @ coopmuch56

Wow, so the third world is worse than Canada.. so how are US guns to blame for this ?

We are both Americans, you are the one who is showing your dim bulb

  • Thats exactly what i just said, suicide has nothing to do with it. You brought it up, then i proved you wrong.

  • @coopmuch56 You're*** an ignorant American.***

  • @coopmuch56 Didnt self hanging skyrocket in the U.K., after they banned guns there? LOL, suicide... its as old as prostitution and weapons development.

  • @TheMedievalMan did they really ban all guns

  • @coopmuch56 You are an ignorant Canadian, sir.Your last sentence should be ...you're an ignorant..... LEARN HOW TO SPELL...I am from Canada also...

  • Well I can see what those strict gun laws did to us here in germany. it will take you MONTHS maybe even a year before you can legaly buy a 9 mm... Why? A LOT OF PAPER WORK. Burocracy at it´s BEST. Phycological test which are but yet almost NO ONE PASSES them... That´s just stupid...As I said before no one can forbid me to bare firearms cause it´s none of their business whether one owns a gun or not. It´s a universal RIGHT.

  • Didn't I read a few years ago about a German young man who went to his school and shot a number of people? This is proof that gun ban laws, restrictions, paperwork, psych tests, none of that is effective. If a person wants to get a gun and do harm to someone, he can. And if a person wants to use a gun to DEFEND HIMSELF, those things make it almost impossible to get them and have them. The government treats YOU as the criminal instead of the man trying to break into your home.

  • Actually I'm much more afraid of being killed by a 16 year old behind the wheel of an SUV texting on her cell phone, than I am of being shot by a gun.

Most everyone knows someone who has been killed or seriously injured in a car accident, but very, very few people know someone who has been shot. Just helps put things in perspective.

  • not in phila pa

  • @JSM10069 my friend was robbed and shot luckily he survived. So I will continue to carry a gun thank you

  • @coopmuch56

Your talking shit, Fullbore firearms were banned in the UK in 1997(ish) after the bunblane massacre. Guess what? Guncrime rocketed AFTER the ban, and is still a huge problem in the UK. The only people who suffer from gun bans is Genuine law abiding users.

It could be argued that reducing the number of legal guns reduces the risk of gun related deaths, perhaps it would but if thats so, lets ban all cars from the road, as they kill more people worldwide than anything else.

  • @chapmasi

umm, gun crime is not a huge problem over here. and mostly its other gang members getting shot by gangs. i myself am pro gun and wish they were legal. but gun crime isent a huger problem, at least not where i live. and i belive that most armed robberys are done with airsoft guns. i am with you on gun laws and stuff :)

  • @coopmuch56 yeah it says you have a lot less people....

  • @coopmuch56 but MOST crimes are not committed by legal gun owners most of gun crimes are committed by illegally purchased weapons. i am going to wait to get a gun for defense but if i wanted i could walk a few blocks and pick up a nice POS .25 if i wanted. if canada dont want their citizens to defend themselfes they should also outlaw pencils ,sticks ,baseball bats , rocks books, chairs and anything else that can kill someone........hands

  • @NoRestart

yeah, i live in UK and feel the same as you do. in the UK it is basicaly illegal to defend your self. cant even carry pepperspray or lock knives

  • @wolfvines I think it's more than illegals. Home grown thugs are a huge problem when it comes to gun crime.

  • @wolfvines hell or just go live in texas lol, i wanna move there sooo bad.

  • its a good gun

  • They've got one for sale for $550AUD, but I can't get it because I have to wait months for my damn licence. Man I hate our stupid gun laws.

  • Hey....i think i just bought that Model 66 !

    It looks cool eh :-)

  • You're lucky, it was the one I wanted lol. It was on UsedGuns. I think I had only one month left. Hey, it's not as if I coulda bought it anyway my parents don't want any guns in the house.

  • Too bad about that. Here in Ohio you can legally buy pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles right off craigslist. No registration or license. Citizens have gun rights, servants have registration/licensing. Our revolution was fought over gun control--before Lexington/Concord it was only tax protests.

  • Yeah, just keep fighting the anti-gun filth.

  • +1 about the bureaucratic nightmare a.k.a. "Gun Control"

  • No problem.

To "dinadanna" I would say, If you are either considering suicide or perhaps making a murder look like a suicide, please seek the help of a qualified counselor.

  • No neither. This has already happened to a love one in the family, and we don't agree w/the toxicgology report.

  • Your original question seems 'off color' now that you clarify it it makes more sense

Since we were 'in the dark' about the intent we didn't give a great answer, sorry

  • Thats ok. I understand. Pray for my family that the truth will be reveal about what happened to our love one. We need clarification on if it was murder or suicide?? cuz there was no GSR found on its hand.

  • The recessed chambers in the cylinder are just a neat detail and allows for tighter tolerances between the rear of the cylinder and the recoil shield. Over the years and through the various changes (indicated by dash numbers-example Model 66, 66-1, 66-2, etc.) there have been other less noticeable changes as well. The factory calls them improvements but they are mostly just cost cutting measures.

  • great points and insight, thanks for contributing

I tend to agree with you about the 'improvements"

  • The pinned barrel was to insure that the barrel (which is screwed in) didn't counter rotate from the reaction to the twisting force of the bullet traveling down the rifling in the barrel. This could twist the barrel and throw the front sight out of alignment. It was not a common problem but COULD happen on SOME revolvers. This is very rarely a problem even with today's guns that are not pinned.

  • The answer to the question about recessed cylinders is this: The recessed cylinder and the pinned barrel don't make any functional difference in how the gun works but are hallmarks of quality. They are vestiges of craftsmanship and attention to detail from a time when there was a lot more hand fitting and finishing.

  • CSU = Crime Scene Unit

    WCA = Who Cares Anyway

  • Comment removed

  • Of course I've never done such a thing,

perhaps CSI or NYPD CSU or WTF WCA would be a better place for your 'research'

  • ok thanks, will do further research. Just tell me what does CSU, WTF, and WCA stand for??

  • GSR sprays all over the hand and clothes and it stays around on the skin so don't think about doing something stupid. That's with all firearms by the way.

  • ruger piece of shit I hated the feling of my dad's old one wich is sold!!!

  • wow, care to tell us how you really feel?

  • I just hated it it just didn't fit my hand my model 66 (just like the one in the vid) is PERFECT!!!!

  • Excuse me Mr. gun enthusiast man, but what advantage/disadvantage does a revolver with the recessed cylinder have?

  • I hope you aren't talking to me with such a title, but I'll answer that question....

There is little advantage, they make most revolvers these days without that feature, but since it is a difference we mentioned it

  • Nice video, thanks a lot.

    Good luck.

  • thank you

  • I had the model 19.I loved it.Wish I still had it.Great vids.Thanks.

  • thank you

  • Nice video, never knew that about old and newer revolvers.

  • Thanks, as I learn, I make new videos
