I never thought I would hear this record again.. .. I used to play it over and over as a kid...I was definitley into rock but that " great Wes Montgomery sound" riff was something I used to try over and over to play...now hearing it 40 years later I think I can finally do it.. thanks very much.. JT
I have a LP Rec. Strange thing is that I have never seen anyone like mine. All the nob-controls in one stright line, not like any other pictures I´ve seen of it.
wow. if Bruce B. was that good a player in 1972, I can only imagine how good he is at playing today (assuming he still plays). As for the sound, I cant shake the feeling they recorded this guitar direct to console. It probably would have sounded better played thru an amp (especially for the rock tones). Anyways, RIP the great Les Paul.
@REALCougarsRmales Gotta take into account that I got this from an old thin flexidisc I got from a 40 year old magazine. Those flexidiscs never had good fidelity even on the first play, and wore our fast. That may have something to do with the sound.
@jafafah0ts I know what you mean about the flexis. I bought somebody's used guitar mag collection and there were a bunch of flexi disks in some of the issues. Those were definitely intended to be a disposable medium. I'm amazed they survived the manufacturing process. Anyways, thank goodness this one made it on youtube. I enjoyed the demo. Bruce appears in an episode of Rockschool. "watch?v=cEcI66YGQqk" or "Rockschool series 1 ep.1 introduction". Talking not playing though.
@REALCougarsRmales Believe it or not, the low-impedance pickups were made to connect to an XLR (3-prong mic) output jack that would allow you to connect your guitar directly to the console.
OK i admit the pick ups are the ones that puzzle me because this is the best guitar in electronics i seen form Gibson in my opinion it beats the robot thing that is going on (i believe it wold be better to be re re-realest but with better pick-ups )
Being a 40 year old clip and guitar, yes, things have come a long way. My fav guitar (that I own)is a "The Paul" a great version of the Les Paul. I think you mean "re-released", if so, it probably has been by now. I have a line6 effects processor and really don't like it. I have to adjust every parameter on it before I am hesitantly able to play it on stage. I am ready to go back to individual foot pedals. What's the robot thing? auto tuned vocals and such?
Had this disc...out of Guitar Player. Had a Les Paul Custom at the time too...big stuff for a 17 year-old back then.

Holy cow! I remember listening to this little disc over and over as a kid! My favorite part was the "You wanna get highs? Get a load of this!" part.

I respect Les Paul but must admit that alot of those guitar sounds demoed were almost totally unusable, IMO

Les is a legend but the guitar sounds like crap. Way too synthetic a tingy. Interesting video though.

Then why did Les loved to use this guitar it was his favorite and he played it.
RockRaddar 2 years ago
I'm not here to argue...That country, rock and funky set-up sounds synthetic...that's all I'm saying....

The "Les Paul Recorder" is the name of the guitar being demoed.
jafafah0ts 2 years ago
@jafafah0ts No no no. I own 5 of them. It's called Gibson LES PAUL RECORDING. NOT a 'recorder' wrong.

@jafafah0ts The guitar's model name actually is "Les Paul Recording."

@ToastmachineIdiot I was going by what the printed materials accompanying the record say.
