This looks to me like hawkish individuals clumsily attempting to immediately capitalize on a huge opportunity to further their own agendas. If these people were even half as clever you give them credit for being, you have to imagine that they wouldn't have bungled that opportunity so thoroughly in the long run, although I'd guess you'd simply regress further into your paranoid logic and label this as another step in their devious 7-year plan to elect Obama and bring about the whatever whatever.
