Vista is slow we all know that, but the internal software and machine code is far superior to the mac. Ms was just taking you out for a beta test before it ran 7.

All macs run with high amounts of ram, and manily software that is provided by the vendor. Macs don't run exe or anything windows runs, which limits it, because of the 90% windows has.
And that company is microsoft, they use trickery to have a wide spread of users help 7 which I think is totally terrible, but xp is great.

You are so right I have dual quad core xeons and 2x 250gb sata drives running raid 0 and it still takes a littel over 1 minuet to boot to login from the time i press the start button now my macpro boots faster but it is a mac and they do usally start faster but not all my software will run on mac so I keep a fast pc around just to run the games I can't on a mac so any ways I would like to see a 6 second vista boot. if I ever see a vista machine load in 6 seconds ill call the guinness book .

Granted Vista pretty much sucks ass and I admit it and I am a "PC Fanboy" but in start up times it all depends on how fast your processor and SSD are. If you compare W7 to the latest Mac OS thee would be almost identical start up times.

So, I'm a fanboy? I have used Windows and Linux machines for years. I have only had a Mac for about two years. I own 5 computers and one of them is a Mac, the rest are Windows XP and Windows 7 boxes. I don't always agree with everything Apple does either.
I'm not a fanboy. A real fanboy is someone who loves only one or the other and is blind to what the other can do. I own all of them and know what they can and can't do. I also give props when they are due and have said that I like XP and 7.
Now I will admit i am a bit of a PC fanboy, i'm not the greatest fan of Macs, but i can see where you're coming from with this vid, I am purchasing an OCZ Vertex 120gb SSD for the upcoming release of Windows 7, i have a Q9650, 790i motherboard and 4GB of Corsair RAM i highly doubt i could get it down to 6 seconds, maybe around 15-30 seconds but all i honestly care about is game and program load times, when i boot my PC i turn it on and go make a coffee i have no idea how fast or slowly it starts

yea vista is quite slow, on my pc it takes around 25-30 seconds to a workable desktop with a 3.8ghz quad, 3 wd 640gb black in raid 0 but its fast as hell in games and photo shop
The Asrock x58 extreme as a feature called instant boot. Instant boot, will boot up vista in 3-4 seconds. I am getting one of these motherboards on the 30th, ill post a video then.
I have heard about this. Congrats I hope it works well for you. One question though: Why would you install Vista on it and not Windows 7? If you are going to have the latest and greatest why have an old OS installed? If it will boot Vista in 3-4 seconds it should boot 7 in maybe 1-2 seconds!
The only reason I am getting vista is because the 5870s are 3 days old and driver support for "eyefinity" --- the feature that lets you game over Tri-monitors--- suck. I do agree with you that windows vista is lacking, and I personally like windows 7 better more specifically Dx11, Dx11 is what DX10 and DX10.1 should have been if nvidia worked with Microsoft more.
That said, I don't think a Os should be judged on boot time, sure it takes some time for a lot of vista machines to start up, but really how much time are we talking about 60 sec max?, Hit the power button and go to the bathroom, clean your desk. It really shouldn't be a big deal doing something else for a min while the computer starts.

I find my boot times to be acceptable on Vista and Windows 7, usually less than a minute, and it could be faster if I had an SSD. I usually turn on my computer and go to get a drink, so it doesn't bother me much. As long as it turns on and works, I'm good.
I highly doubt any operating system could boot in 6 seconds, nevermind Vista, even with an SSD. Even Ubuntu and Solaris take longer to boot than that. My MacBook Pro didn't take too long to boot, but I don't notice much difference.
The fastest boot up time I've ever got was 18 seconds on my white macbook running Tiger fresh install. Later it usually was 25 secs. Now under leopard about 45 seconds.

to be fair, i have an old g4 powerbook, it can get it up and running in about 45- 50 seconds, my vista machine is about 1:00 to 1:15. granted i use the windows machine for work and i rarely have the time to defrag it.
It is not impossible, I have a 9xsdd and I can boot in 9 seconds from start to desktop. Im not sure how, but someone may have found a way to make it faster.

Ive heard of a very stripped down version of vista with a text based boot that will be fully booted in 6 seconds on a pc with only 1gb of ram and 1.6ghz or more processor made for netbooks. but it sucks because multitasking is cr4ap on it.

Well its not really "what you can do" its how you do it, the mac isnt really BAD at anything, its just the pc will always be better at it, because of customisation. For example, as I know you've been working with computers for a fair while;
You can also upgrade a Mac, just not to the same extent as you can a PC. Hard drives, RAM, video cards and OS can all be upgrades on a Mac. As for CPU and MOBO , I can count on one hand the number of these I and fellow techies have done ever.
If you like to build your own than PC is the way to go. No argument there.

That is a pretty good boot time for Vista. When people just pull random figures like 6 seconds out of their ass it tends to piss me off.
I'm betting if you could disable a few un-needed services and programs and on a slightly more powerful machine you might be able to get that down to 35-40 sec.
I will hopefully be getting more ram a quadcore ( not sure which one to go with yet ) and an SSD 60gig sometime soon, i will borrow my mates camera when i do get the parts and post a video of the 1st boot after install. not sure when this will happen tho i have bills comeing from all directions atm =(
With an Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition and say 8 gigs of fast RAM and an SSD, I will expect to see some sub 30 seconds boot times with Windows 7. Maybe with Vista also if tweaked.
I don't think the core i7 was even out when I did this video (August 10, 2008). Even if it was I doubt this kid had one, and if he did why not post a video to prove me wrong?
yea, easily the 35-40...i have a rather basic, pentium d 3.2 ghz, and 2gb ram, and i' havent even finished tweaking mine and i have it down to 43 seconds with aero and glass still enabled....however i do agree many pc fans are ignorant and bad representations of the better of us....i really like vista and believe its an amazing OS...cant wait till 7!!!

All macs run with high amounts of ram, and manily software that is provided by the vendor. Macs don't run exe or anything windows runs, which limits it, because of the 90% windows has.
And that company is microsoft, they use trickery to have a wide spread of users help 7 which I think is totally terrible, but xp is great.

You are so right I have dual quad core xeons and 2x 250gb sata drives running raid 0 and it still takes a littel over 1 minuet to boot to login from the time i press the start button now my macpro boots faster but it is a mac and they do usally start faster but not all my software will run on mac so I keep a fast pc around just to run the games I can't on a mac so any ways I would like to see a 6 second vista boot. if I ever see a vista machine load in 6 seconds ill call the guinness book .

I just think a video that recaps things that have already been said is a bit pointless. You narrated what people could have read themselves. To each their own I guess... but keep in mind, the kid IS only 14 or 15 and the fact that you get similar comments from people in a different age bracket (20-45) is no surprise. You guys long so badly to stand out and to receive attention that you blindly mock PC users. PCs boot a little slower than Macs, and have issues that Macs don't because they can DO MORE. (Like games for example. OSX has lousy game support) However, when you want to do simple things, Macs are very fast and very reliable. Neither is better. Get over yourself

but my brothers Mac can literally do cold boot to full functionality in about 7 seconds. Macs are unbelievably fast and user friendly. if only they managed to coin in more on the gaming market. once apple push the mac to the heart of the gaming world. and can run/ play on online servers against pc users, the windows platform will fall.........majorly.

Granted Vista pretty much sucks ass and I admit it and I am a "PC Fanboy" but in start up times it all depends on how fast your processor and SSD are. If you compare W7 to the latest Mac OS thee would be almost identical start up times.

So, I'm a fanboy? I have used Windows and Linux machines for years. I have only had a Mac for about two years. I own 5 computers and one of them is a Mac, the rest are Windows XP and Windows 7 boxes. I don't always agree with everything Apple does either.
I'm not a fanboy. A real fanboy is someone who loves only one or the other and is blind to what the other can do. I own all of them and know what they can and can't do. I also give props when they are due and have said that I like XP and 7.

Now I will admit i am a bit of a PC fanboy, i'm not the greatest fan of Macs, but i can see where you're coming from with this vid, I am purchasing an OCZ Vertex 120gb SSD for the upcoming release of Windows 7, i have a Q9650, 790i motherboard and 4GB of Corsair RAM i highly doubt i could get it down to 6 seconds, maybe around 15-30 seconds but all i honestly care about is game and program load times, when i boot my PC i turn it on and go make a coffee i have no idea how fast or slowly it starts

yea vista is quite slow, on my pc it takes around 25-30 seconds to a workable desktop with a 3.8ghz quad, 3 wd 640gb black in raid 0 but its fast as hell in games and photo shop

The Asrock x58 extreme as a feature called instant boot. Instant boot, will boot up vista in 3-4 seconds. I am getting one of these motherboards on the 30th, ill post a video then.

I have heard about this. Congrats I hope it works well for you. One question though: Why would you install Vista on it and not Windows 7? If you are going to have the latest and greatest why have an old OS installed? If it will boot Vista in 3-4 seconds it should boot 7 in maybe 1-2 seconds!

The only reason I am getting vista is because the 5870s are 3 days old and driver support for "eyefinity" --- the feature that lets you game over Tri-monitors--- suck. I do agree with you that windows vista is lacking, and I personally like windows 7 better more specifically Dx11, Dx11 is what DX10 and DX10.1 should have been if nvidia worked with Microsoft more.

That said, I don't think a Os should be judged on boot time, sure it takes some time for a lot of vista machines to start up, but really how much time are we talking about 60 sec max?, Hit the power button and go to the bathroom, clean your desk. It really shouldn't be a big deal doing something else for a min while the computer starts.

I find my boot times to be acceptable on Vista and Windows 7, usually less than a minute, and it could be faster if I had an SSD. I usually turn on my computer and go to get a drink, so it doesn't bother me much. As long as it turns on and works, I'm good.
I highly doubt any operating system could boot in 6 seconds, nevermind Vista, even with an SSD. Even Ubuntu and Solaris take longer to boot than that. My MacBook Pro didn't take too long to boot, but I don't notice much difference.

The fastest boot up time I've ever got was 18 seconds on my white macbook running Tiger fresh install. Later it usually was 25 secs. Now under leopard about 45 seconds.
With Vista it's usually over 1 minute.

to be fair, i have an old g4 powerbook, it can get it up and running in about 45- 50 seconds, my vista machine is about 1:00 to 1:15. granted i use the windows machine for work and i rarely have the time to defrag it.

Ive heard of a very stripped down version of vista with a text based boot that will be fully booted in 6 seconds on a pc with only 1gb of ram and 1.6ghz or more processor made for netbooks. but it sucks because multitasking is cr4ap on it.

Theres alot more you can do with a PC than a mac. Which is why people prefer PC.

Well its not really "what you can do" its how you do it, the mac isnt really BAD at anything, its just the pc will always be better at it, because of customisation. For example, as I know you've been working with computers for a fair while;
You have an old mac, and you have an old PC.
Cheaper to upgrade the PC or buy a whole new mac?

You can also upgrade a Mac, just not to the same extent as you can a PC. Hard drives, RAM, video cards and OS can all be upgrades on a Mac. As for CPU and MOBO , I can count on one hand the number of these I and fellow techies have done ever.
If you like to build your own than PC is the way to go. No argument there.

a computer can boot in 6 sec but
you would need to make a lot of
mods to your computer and it would cost
to much. so he is talking shit but it is posible if you get tow or three proses and set each of them to run spesific boot up

my computer has a start time of about 30 40 sec wich is good for my computer becuase i cant aford good ones so i bout a chep compac and i just modfied the hardware and things so any way bye

I think with an IoDrive, an overclocked i7 and ddr3 2000+ ram well under 10 seconds is possible.
Anyway, this video could have been 85% shorter.

Running Vista 32bit home premium and my boot time is aprox 45 seconds which i think is pretty respectable ( from power on to opening an application )

That is a pretty good boot time for Vista. When people just pull random figures like 6 seconds out of their ass it tends to piss me off.
I'm betting if you could disable a few un-needed services and programs and on a slightly more powerful machine you might be able to get that down to 35-40 sec.

I will hopefully be getting more ram a quadcore ( not sure which one to go with yet ) and an SSD 60gig sometime soon, i will borrow my mates camera when i do get the parts and post a video of the 1st boot after install. not sure when this will happen tho i have bills comeing from all directions atm =(

With an Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition and say 8 gigs of fast RAM and an SSD, I will expect to see some sub 30 seconds boot times with Windows 7. Maybe with Vista also if tweaked.

Also, the only legit 10 second boot of Vista I have seen on youtube was done with 9 SSD drives in raid.
"This is a video of Windows Vista booting in 10 seconds using 9x 16GB SSD SATA drives from MTron"
And if you look at the video they have all the eyecandy turned off as well. I'm sure its been tweaked out the ass.
All of this to get Vista to boot up in a decent time? Can you say useless?

yea, easily the 35-40...i have a rather basic, pentium d 3.2 ghz, and 2gb ram, and i' havent even finished tweaking mine and i have it down to 43 seconds with aero and glass still enabled....however i do agree many pc fans are ignorant and bad representations of the better of us....i really like vista and believe its an amazing OS...cant wait till 7!!!

what I'm talking about when I say "cold boot" is from a computer thats completely off to a usable desktop.
My Mac will do this in about 35-40 seconds and will shut down in about 6 seconds.
If you can go from completely off to being able to bring up the start menu in 20 seconds I'll be really impressed.
