This is more like JKD style. But look so BAD. His stance is stiff . This Guy Need to learn proper wing chun styles and understand more about the centre line. Wing Chun should be relax and use less energy.
All said about Tony Yap is the TRUTH..just check with any of Grandmaster Yip Fook CHoy's senior students..they can tell you that..
All of us at Yip Kin WC is not happy with this video still on youtube.. if you honour Yip Fook Choy as a Grandmaster pls remove this video and therefore all the posts..
Tony can create his own youtube site if he wishes to
@nobletruth1 I second that. Looks more like universal kung fu. I used to do the same when showing a friend how to fight. Nonsense. the stance at 2:47, everyone knows that.
@sild123 The basis is "to borrow people's energy". We do it by using Centreline, Lien Siu Dai Ta, etc etc. To find out more look for our blogspot yipkinwingchun.
@powerfulbillion i see. so the main principles in wing chun are still there right? cuz that's whats more important, example loy lau hoy sung, lat sau jic chung etc.
i have a question for those learinig the Choy family wing chun, are there anyone in indonesia who learnt the CHoy family wing chun style?i will be living in indonesia soon and i would love to learn the Choy family wing chun because in my opinion it is the unchanged wing chun style from way back then, i am a Yipman lineage practitioner at the moment, Choy family and the vietnamese yakashan(dunno how to spell it) and Yipman's are the 3 family i would love to study under.
hi powerfulbillion, How can i contact Sifu Ku CHoi Wah? or Sifu Cheung Wai Por? and also sory for not knowing if this is Yip Kin Wing CHun, i just pressumed it was the Cho family (heheh not CHoy my bad ^^) cause it says from malaysia and i thought there is only Cho family wing chun and that Yip Kin wing chun was the same.but i am also interested in this Yip Kin WC aswell, are there any sifus from Yip Kin family in indonesia by any chance?thank you very much for your time.
I'm sorry I do not have both (Master Ku and GM Cheung) of their numbers but i think Eric Ling (the owner of this video) is close to both of them. What if you try asking him. GM Cheung Wai Por also has his own blogpsot. Currently Yip Kin Wing Chun is only taught in Malaysia by GM Yip Fook Choy and 2 students allowed to teach under him who are Master Yap Yew Wei (the black t-shirt in this video) and Mr. Kahar Saidun.
Its healthy, every lesson I learn something new, I am impressed at my reflexes and awareness and I feel stronger and look greater as each day passes. The man in the video Tony inspired me to learn and there is Kahar and Sifu himself who are there and always ready to impart their knowledge on to you.
Choose positive and empowering thoughts and work on your self.
Grandmaster Yip Fook Choy has inherited a legacy; he is a warm, humble and is a great teacher and a legacy himself in the eyes many. I am posting a comment based on my limited experience in practicing Yip Kin Wing Chun. Many martial arts schools and exponents have been debating the superiority of their styles for centuries. This debate never ends as long as a person is driven by an ego and thus fails to see the most beautiful aspect in doing something they love.
I'm very pleased with the man in the dive from the beginning, up until 0:50. The only thing I don't like about his form is that his ankles and knees are so deeply bent.
I've tested it live pretty much around the world against many different styles including other wing chun and I'm confident of it.
We do not mind comments on the performance of the above video. One person doesn't represent the whole art and the guy in black has his reasons for doing it the way you see above.
However, we do not like personal attacks on our sifu and his kungfu. Try having somebody attacking someone you respect like you dad, mom or anybody. You'd react quite aggressively.
Ninnaoboo! Martialtraveler has got a good point. Even though Pundek and Chankahang08 instigated it, I think we are making Yip Kin look bad.
And I like his comment about Brandon saying Yip Kin Wing Chun is a fake and then saying HE is the 3rd generation Grandmaster. He is essentially saying he's a BIGGER FAKE! Haha...
Brandon Chan is a motherfucker, no doubt about it. But he brought economy of motion and simplicity back to Malaysian Wing Chun. Hence, his wing chun is called "Zhen Wu Wing Chun", after his own name, just like Bruce Lee's modified wing chun system was called "Jun Fan Kung Fu".
But Bruce Lee never claim to be 2nd Generation Grandmaster. Brandon actually said Yip Kin Wing Chun is a fake and then say he is a 3rd generation grandmaster. If he said he's the 1st Generation Grandmaster of Zhen Wu Wing Chun then I can accept. BTW, thanks martial traveler for that comment. I didn't know.
He didn't say it's fake. I've been to his demos and asked him before about why his wing chun is different from Yip Kin wing chun. He didn't say Yip Kin wing chun is fake, he just said that Yip Kin wing chun is not effective because it's been corrupted by other styles like (or look like) hung gar and choy li futt
If he says it is corrupted then he doesn't know what he's talking about. The forms might have movements that look like hung gar but we don't have choy li futt movements at all. He must have read from the internet, which were comments made by Cho Gar Wing Chun people who are recently trying to learn from us. I learned Yip Man's HK and Fatshan's styles from legitimate masters also but my understanding was made deeper by Yip Kin Wing Chun as taught by Sifu Yip Fook Choy.
Well, good for you to have deepened your knowledge after learning from so many masters! Horses for courses. If you like the more comprehensive philosophy or you think a certain style is more efficient, then great. Others may notice holes that are not apparent to you and find that something else is better for them.
I've never learned from Brandon before, but I've only met him a few times during events. He didn't talk much about his masters or their teachings, though.. but a lot about Bruce Lee
I would never be angered by any comments made about Tony's performance in this video. But you commented pretty badly about my sifu and his kungfu without knowing anything about him. You won't understand it if you're an orphan or if you despise your parents, but it is like an attack to our father. Anybody would react negatively.
You didn't learn from Brandon but you might as well be his father. I personally never attack him or his style even when people ask me about it (despite my reservations). Why don't you try to better yourself before defending others. (just a suggestion).
Well I'm bettering myself of course but not in wing chun. I prefer another martial art. Yes I didn't learn from brandon but I've met him a few times and heard his point of story more than most of you critics have.
Powerfulbillion, from your uppity behavior and your steadfast belief that YKWC is the best system in Malaysia (if not the world), your style of writing betrays your identity.. some stuff you've written here are exactly the same as you wrote in some blogs. You are Kahar Saidun, right?
yes I am. BTW, I do not believe YKWCK is the best WCK around but personally I've never found anything better, yet. Again, this is not about it being the best or what not, its about personal attacks to a person I call father (sifu does have the "father" character in it right). BTW, as I've commented before, I do not believe in one style being the best, its only about you and how YOU make it work. For me, YKWCK works well for me. And never again attack my father!
BTW also, come join us to see if we are economical and simple in our techniques. Most people look at the forms and they say we are not economical or simple. Sifu Yip throws people upside down with ONE movement. I literary mean upside down! He is 67 years old this year with one limping leg because of a motorcycle accident. I've done Yip Man's HK and Fatshan's styles, so I know what simple means.
Wow! Gone a few days and what an interesting place this has been. But just to add,
1. There's a Chan Yu Min lineage person doing the Subdue The Tiger Form in youtube saying that it is Wing Chun. Wonder why nobody says it is "not" Wing Chun?
2. The Vietnamese Wing Chun has the 5 animals form and several animal based hand shapes.
Ya I criticize your wing chun because your people don't know how to spar. Wanna test others' skills with chi sao and other games. Come on man, go full contact! Wanna prove knowledge by saying stance must be correct, structure must be correct, etc. Ya all those will make yourselves feel good but against an actual fighting art?
Have you sparred with any of us to say so? I don't think so. You've proven you've not learned it so how much can you comment. But one thing for sure we're all making ourselves look bad by shouting around like this.
And your reference would be? First you've never learned Yip Kin Wing Chun. Second, from the way you write you don't really understand Hong Kong Wing Chun. And you definitely have never seen Yip Man's Wing Chun in Fatshan. Lastly, have you done Chi Sau with any of the above persons to say they cannot do Chi Sau or Kuo Sau? Like I said below, Wing Chun is about principles and energy. Not shape or theory.
The core energies of the form will define the martial art, not the shape. Oh! Sorry! You didn't know that. I give you the benefit of the doubt. No one can see energy. Can only feel it. Oh, you didn't know that too? Better look deeper guy... Hehehe...
I've never believed in the superiority of any martial. It's never been about the art, it has always been about the person. More practice the better the art. That's the bottom line. However, we still need to choose the art suits us best.
Please offer some convincing examples. Many people have said so but I've never gotten a truly convincing answer.
I believe the system I learn is the best in the world because of the all encompassing philosophy, strategies and techniques but others of other martial arts believe that theirs is the best too... And how can we comment on others when we have never gone in deep enough?
i've heard in the video discuss about center line. Actually, most Yi Man subordinates misunderstand the usage of center line. Believe it or not, the guy in black shirt is correct and his are the same as the original Yi Man style Wing Chun.
Not everyone got the concept of centreline incorrect. Brandon Chan teaches wing chun with the concept of centreline being the central axis of attack, not necessarily the centre line in the middle of your body. If you come in from the side, the centreline of the attack is along the vertical axis of your fist or kick.
The guy in black, however, is practicing a diluted and corrupted "wing chun" with no economy of motion and efficiency.
cont... We need 2 spend less time trying 2 prove the superiority of our own sifu or lineage and appreciate the depth of variety to learn 4 ourselves what really works 4 us. Wing Chun was not invented 2 fight against wing chun but 2 defend against unfair aggressors. So y do so mant wc ppl bicker and fight each other. Wouldn't we learn more if we trained with each other and exchanged our knowledge?
People seem to think that this is not genuine. Are they judging in ignorance? Look at Cho Gar and Ban Chung videos - also Wing Chun! Probably find the same comments. No-one knows what came off the Opera Boats. Who knows when things were added or subtracted. I learn from everything!
Wing Chun is a mma that has been around 4 hundreds of years. There r so many different variations, so much secrecy and mis-information, who can really say exactly what wing chun is or was. The reality is, if ppl think that the style they have learnt is the only true wing chun they r deluding themselves. cont...
Such a comment coming from a person who can't even spell right... This is a shame of critiques... ha hah hah hah! Also, there's not much left in Yip Man Wing Chun to modify... or you don't even know that!?
Leung Ting himself modified wc 2 create WT. As do alot of wc sifus and GMs. Can u really judge this style from a 3 min clip? The only shame is that we criticize what we do not understand or agree with from our own subjective pov without ne real scientific investigation.
This may not be the Wing Chun that you know,But there are different schools of Wing Chun.Yip Man is only one branch, and he threw away alot of the standards of Hong Kong street life, its all good.
This is the tradiotional wingchun style, the wc style a lot of ppl are used to is from hongkong popularised by brucelee, the traditional style is not that fancy and has a lot of hand techniques and based upon strong stances..those who think they know wc should not be so arrogant.
This style of Wing Chun was thought in Malaysia since the 1930s, before ppl even know Yip Man existed. So it is impossible for it to be a cut and paste between Hung Gar and the modern Yip Man version style the world call Wing Chun. In fact, I'd say that the sifu who taught the Wing Chun blablawarrior, peacetlc etc. knows didn't finish learning his wing chun training so he needed to improvise... The video is short but for those who are open, they will see!
Dunno why ppl criticize Master Tony, It is good, shows power, speed, and accuracy, center and footwork is so stable. Not any Tom Dick and Harry can perform this well you know? Not without years of hard and persistence training. Those who thinks it is crap or shit may give him a try and see.....
deffinately not WT, maybe some form of WC, has similar moves to the WT/WC systems. any1 can learn a system then do changes and create their own style, thats what im guessing its going on here
Obviously it looks different from Yip Man's style but I cannot say this clip is not Wing Chun period because I don't know exactly what it is and I am sure Yip Man was not the only teacher in his time and before his time.
It looks like Wing Chun Bai Hok(White Crane). There are clips on Youtube. Check it out. Very interesting. If you search, use Yong Chun instead of Wing Chun.
This is obviously wing chun. The music is eh... At least the cantonese is clear enough. I've practiced Chow Gar Wing Chun and I think this vid is ok. Thanks for the upload.
This is more like JKD style. But look so BAD. His stance is stiff . This Guy Need to learn proper wing chun styles and understand more about the centre line. Wing Chun should be relax and use less energy.

Bruce lee ,leung ting, milan prosencita, nick smart, salvanko truntic all learnt and passed on varients of the (new wing chun)
you are seeing the older version.
This is a very attrative form but it has been left behind for a reason.

I would personally love to know how to do it.
and it should always be preserved.
should we loose our way we will need it again.

Who gives you the authority to say so? It seems you have a lot to open your eyes to.
