Aside from the awful camera work, which is blurry and jerks enough to give me motion sickness, this was a very haunting and beautiful dance. Thank you for posting it.
the average person will pay attention for about 3 minutes before they are bored and ready for something new. I wish this girl would have started captivating the audience prior to 4 minutes into the dance. Other than that.. great job.
She's telling a story, and I think that is beautiful and interesting and takes a lot of talent. Perhaps the movements are just too subtle for some, but I loved it. Great job!
It didn't really get interesting until she used the fans but overall it was interesting. By the way, anyone know where I can get fans like that? Awesome!!
I know the first song is from Arcana, "In Search of the Divine". The people casually talking in the background, blatantly showing disinterest drives me nuts.
Glad I found this! I'm currently working on some "ghost" choreography for a potential solo and this is very inspirational to see a real pro do something not completely unlike what I had in mind!! (only i'm a crap dancer)
As you can see from the title and description this is not a "bellydance" so there wouldn't be any bellydanging..it is more performance art story of a japanese ghost
I thought that it was a performance from a tribal bellydance festival though, so there should have been at least some tribal bellydance in there somewhere (it was mostly fusion). There was a little of the influence in the second half perhaps.
Hiya! Did you go to the exhibit in the city? Even if you did, they are going to change it in Aug. Also of interest: Strange & Supernatural at the Asian Art Museum, site specific performances based on Yoshitoshi's prints. Aug.2, 5-9 pm. I'm planning on going and checking it out.
this is scary as hell...

This dance is hauntingly beautiful I love the mystery. What a graceful beauty.

what do japanese folklore have to do with bellydancing? This is a terrible mixture and it makes no sense.

I have to agree with you. She obviously put a lot of thought into this piece.

Although I wonder if their are vendors in the back of the room like a lot of other dance shows. That would account for alteast some of the noise.

Slow dancing, and slow bellydancing - it's new to me, now i'm currently watching them all day, gothic, and industrial, and such things.

Nice concept!
The last part with the fans is great.
For the middle part thought -the one with the very slow drum- personally I found the movements to be too fast and too many.

that was the eerie part, when the arms and part of the face emerged it was almost a shock. Very well done.

I loved the fact that you (well, I) could not see her facial features--eyes, nose; it totally added to the ghost effect.
I love this piece.
