Engineers are interested with final output. Same quality output can be generated with open source 2D QCAD. But if you are interested in 3D then use blender an opensource software for 3D and animation.
It definitely doesn't replace "thousand dollar programs" like AutoCAD or CATIA! There are so many features that aren't included in QCad. But if you like to draw circles and lines all the time it is pretty recommendable.
nice but who uses windows xp anymore haha they need to make a version for windows 7 cause thats the program im running and i need to use this for a job in arizona im taking, its like a archintect school
@insight821 A lot of people and companies still use windows xp, it is a lot better than vista, i have from the 98 to W7 and xp and the W7 are the most stable.
sadly, the snap of qcad is still extremelly painful to use - i can't snap into endpoints only when i have the cursor close to them - or we are always forced into endpoints, or we can have no snap, or you have other snap options can't help you...
I always thought the very expensive "thousand dollar" programs like AutoCAD were intended for large engineering firms, while cheaper "30 dollar" programs like QCAD were more designed for things like home improvement projects, smaller things with a more flexible time frame like work around the house.
i just try to use the qcad after using autocad, it took me three ours to reed the manual and exercise. Now I've tried to do few drawings that usually take me an our.... it took me 4 ours and it is not finish yet. after all this time i've seen that it dose not save in the dwg format so i can not send or recive the drawings to my office computer...
@aurelrica qCad uses dxf as well, since it is a better format, since you can also read and edit it from a text editor - about dxf, would be great if qCad has a scripting feature (like using python), which we can code plug-ins like for importing .dxf, .blend, etc. - anyway, i agree qCad still have a lot to improve as usability, at least to be as usable as Autocad14 (from around 15 years ago)
Thanks for the beginners guide to CAD . Sounds like a very wise idea. I am not importing survery points or anything but I can read, it did say beginner in the title of the video. Thanks again, I was getting confused.

it looks like a good program, but it seems to do the job slower than a paid cad program and sometimes speed is very important.

Any chance you'd like to make a tutorial on building basic home / floor plans? Now THAT would be useful!

When you can import survey points and get contours out of it let me know.
Lunarizing 4 years ago
Yes. There are people how use QCad exactly for that.
Go to ribbonsoft DOT com then QCad look for Forum then search for "surveyors".
