Back currency by SILVER and control the money supply and the result is very positive. I saw a guy on Antique Road Show that had bought a painting for $75 000 in 1975. He was overjoyed to hear that it was now worth about $450 000.

Although it seems he did a good deal, and did preserve his purchasing power to a degree, it doesn't seem to me that he made any "money" especially factoring in eventual capital gains taxes.
