I got a free invite to this show and it was amazing. To see such a tribute to Buddy was wonderful and for me ( a total Everly nut) to see Don get a 5 minute standing ovation from those lovely Buddy fans was something I shall remember always
I was actually at the concert having won 2 tickets in a competition in the Melody Maker. My wife and I were in the second row from the front! What a fantastic night.
Pau owns the rights to Buddy Holly's music, but unlike other owners, he doesnt abuse it by having it used in commercials o, and he makes sure the music lives on by playing it and re-realeasing it when technology improves the sound quality and DVDs and stuff. Paul gets royalties for Buddy's music but, he makes sure Buddy's estate gets their fair share and helps preserve everything Paul is fair. He knows what its like to have music owned by someone else since M.Jackson owned his Beatles music
@acoronab He was the former (and original) lead singer for the Moody Blues. Check out "Go Now" by the M.B.s. he sings lead and that was the groups first big hit.
@acoronab Laine sang in the Moody Blues, and later joined Paul McCartney's band Wings, co-writing and singing a few songs with Paul such as the best selling single ever 'Mull of Kintyre"
Paul dosn't sound like sh** you tin-eared turd-skid!!! He couldn't sound like sh** on his worst day...I bet you couldn't carry a tune in a gunny sack...
LOVE seeing Paul DANCE...I know he always does little steps while he plays, but I've never seen him really shake it before!!!! Sweet!!! I think he just attended not intending to get up & sing, and didn't bring his guitar...

@Ropid Maybe they meant to play "Not Fade Away" and "Bo Diddley" came out by accident-- very similar sound ("Hand Jive" also reminds me of those two.)
Paul captured the "fun" of Buddy's "It's So Easy"...but there's an undercurrent of attitude in that song that Holly effectively vocalized..."you're concerned my heart has learned...people tell me loves for fools, but here I go, breaking all of the rules." Those weren't "fun" lyrics - that was - back in those days - sort of a satire of the love song - that love was "easy", and it was, and here he goes...he's letting himself fall for it, simply for the sake of falling.
Yep , Paul gets the royalties for all Buddy's music but, unlike Norman Petty, Paul makes sure Buddy's estate gets all that due to them. Good luck to Paul for making sure this music goes on.
McCartney owns the music rights to the Buddy Holly catalog. Every time one of his songs plays, money goes into Paul's pocket. Pretty smart investment!
Albert Lee is an amazing lead & electric guitar player, and Don Everly is an excellent, very fine rhythm guitar player, so I believe this crowd was covered.

Every time someone plays or performs a Buddy Holly song in public, Paul gets royalties, as he owns the catalogue! Smart move!
JohnWhapshott 2 years ago 3
He probably uses the money to pay to play his own songs.
