  • I got a free invite to this show and it was amazing. To see such a tribute to Buddy was wonderful and for me ( a total Everly nut) to see Don get a 5 minute standing ovation from those lovely Buddy fans was something I shall remember always

  • Just come across this video.

I was actually at the concert having won 2 tickets in a competition in the Melody Maker. My wife and I were in the second row from the front! What a fantastic night.

The memory of it all will live with me forever.

  • Yup, Denny is really stoned here. Really stoned....

  • dennys been smokin pauls pipe..:D:D

  • Pau owns the rights to Buddy Holly's music, but unlike other owners, he doesnt abuse it by having it used in commercials o, and he makes sure the music lives on by playing it and re-realeasing it when technology improves the sound quality and DVDs and stuff. Paul gets royalties for Buddy's music but, he makes sure Buddy's estate gets their fair share and helps preserve everything Paul is fair. He knows what its like to have music owned by someone else since M.Jackson owned his Beatles music

  • there is a DVD I believe, so in theory you can watch the whole show

  • Paul, your heart is in the right place.

  • I didn't know Denny Lanes voice was so nice

  • @acoronab He was the former (and original) lead singer for the Moody Blues. Check out "Go Now" by the M.B.s. he sings lead and that was the groups first big hit.

  • @acoronab Laine sang in the Moody Blues, and later joined Paul McCartney's band Wings, co-writing and singing a few songs with Paul such as the best selling single ever 'Mull of Kintyre"

  • Paul dosn't sound like sh** you tin-eared turd-skid!!! He couldn't sound like sh** on his worst day...I bet you couldn't carry a tune in a gunny sack...

LOVE seeing Paul DANCE...I know he always does little steps while he plays, but I've never seen him really shake it before!!!! Sweet!!! I think he just attended not intending to get up & sing, and didn't bring his guitar...

  • Si, se nota que el mismo se siente raro de no tocar una guitarra o bajo

  • God bless Rock and Roll

  • I think it's called Bo Diddley

  • @Ropid Maybe they meant to play "Not Fade Away" and "Bo Diddley" came out by accident-- very similar sound ("Hand Jive" also reminds me of those two.)

  • what the second song paul sings?

  • Paul captured the "fun" of Buddy's "It's So Easy"...but there's an undercurrent of attitude in that song that Holly effectively vocalized..."you're concerned my heart has learned...people tell me loves for fools, but here I go, breaking all of the rules." Those weren't "fun" lyrics - that was - back in those days - sort of a satire of the love song - that love was "easy", and it was, and here he goes...he's letting himself fall for it, simply for the sake of falling.

  • Aw, bless Paul his hands are twitching into guitar position :L

  • Ah yet another rare gem I have NEVER seen. And that's saying something.

  • HERES THE HWOLE SHOW PLUS THES WHOLE DVD:.youtube(dot)com/watch?v=ysM-OHZsKTk&feature=related

  • Paul did play 2 other Buddy Holly songs on film- not a concert- but a good tribute:

    youtube(dot)com/watch?v=bTAta1y7dIo&feature=related

  • Denny Laine was pretty good- w=songwriting with McCartney, singing, and solo career still is pretty cool

  • INTERESTING TO SEE PAUL WITH DON EVERLY

  • Ahhh Denny. Such a great talent

  • I was there!

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • Yep , Paul gets the royalties for all Buddy's music but, unlike Norman Petty, Paul makes sure Buddy's estate gets all that due to them. Good luck to Paul for making sure this music goes on.

  • ahhhh paul mccartney how I love you

  • Who's the lead guitarist? Looks like Albert Lee.

  • Every time someone plays or performs a Buddy Holly song in public, Paul gets royalties, as he owns the catalogue! Smart move!

  • He probably uses the money to pay to play his own songs.

  • Paul hardly knows what to do without an instrument...(smile)

  • Paulie man! he rox, and this was before after or during wings?

  • during wings

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Tricia -- Had never seen this before! Paul is so darn cute and of course, his cute personality comes out too!

Thx for sharing w/us. Luv, Kathy

  • i wonder if sir paul showed up in iowa tonight on the 50th anniversary

  • no show. the word went around all day he might be there . might have been too cold.

  • yup, macca and cold don't mx

  • Just wanted to say a few things

    Paul dancing with a mullet

I love hearing the Big O talk

Thanks for sharing the video RIP Buddy Holly Rave On

  • Pauls it's so easy should be renamed so CRAP!

    Pure bilge PAP

  • Pauls version of Its So Easy sounds great.

  • this is a classic, thx for posting. Paul always gives the best hes got -- enthusiasm is the word.

  • Denny you are a real topper, thanks also your Go Now (the moody blues) My regards offcourse on Paul !!!!!!!!!!!

  • My heart is still broken from that sad day in '59.

  • buddy's music is in good hands.

  • paul was a cool dancer!!!

  • McCartney owns the music rights to the Buddy Holly catalog. Every time one of his songs plays, money goes into Paul's pocket. Pretty smart investment!

  • Funny you say that! In turn, Michael Jackson own the rights to the Beatles catalog.

  • 79, Buddy should be celebrated every year!

  • What can I say? Brilliant

  • Albert Lee is an amazing lead & electric guitar player, and Don Everly is an excellent, very fine rhythm guitar player, so I believe this crowd was covered.

  • Interesting to see Paul McCartney without his guitar.

  • "its so easy" one of my favorites and hearing paul my favorite singing it is just awesome!!

  • Rare to see Macca without an axe around his neck!

  • Don Everly's voice [at the very end] singing "hey Bo Diddley" back and forth with Paul is so good!

  • Cool!!

  • Is any of this on the Buddy Holly Story dvd?

  • Have you anymore footage with Don?

  • I'm afraid not. Sorry. I'd love to see the whole concert myself someday.

  • I think she just talked about Phil, but he wasn't at the concert, so they chose to show Don. Or something like that. Oh well...

  • did she introduce don as phil??
