  • It's the 33rd of August...

  • @borncountryful It took me a while to figure out your comment ..Doh!!! lol

  • Waylon, you were one of a kind. I miss you.

    C.

  • @ceb2633 Take Care my friend

  • damn i miss waylon

  • @telecaster1ful We all do my friend Take care....

  • you know who the king of country music is WAYLON FRICKEN JENNINGS that'swho

  • i don't care how you spell mickey's name he is a great writer for sure.but waylon is the best ever this version and his voice are great.waylon did more for country music than they will ever give him credit for.

  • Just some small corrections. Mickey Newbury* is how it's spelled, and he never kept anybody from covering his songs. He always gave up first right of refusal by recording and releasing the songs himself. He was a writer first, and foremost, so his material was available to anybody.

  • @MickeyNewburyMusic I would also like to correct you my friend , I not perfect i make mistakes sometimes , as do a lot of people but you did miss the first time, it is written corectly, which would have pointed out to a lot of other people my unthinking error, secondly i know how good Mickey is as a writer and a great singer too .But i did not need a lesson on the way to spell his name Just a nice word about how well Waylon sang would have been great thank you.

  • @teddie488 Yes, Waylon did a great job, and I meant no personal offense by the corrections. I was simply clarifying ;)

  • I was so sad when I heard Mickey Newbury died at age 62 of a lung disease. What a loss. I bought his whole dvd collection. It is great. There is a very funny one, Live at Montezuma Hall. The song about Bugger Red cracks me up every time I listen to it. ALso the one he named, "For Monica". It is really worth it if you can ever get it.

  • ahhh, Waylon how I do miss you. Mickey Newbury wrote a great song. He does a great version of it also.

  • I agree Mickey does do a great version, i would not be able to choose which i prefer i think they are both great singers thanks for the comment

  • @teddie488 I wasnt sure who wrote this but I knew it was a great song now that I know I will listen to MICKEY NEWBERRY sing it also thanks for the info.TC

  • @stakfan Brian there are so many great songs That Mickey wrote you would be doing yourself a big favour giveing Mickey a good listen . Waylon did a few Mickey tunes

  • I haven't heard this song in so long..Such an awesome song! Thanks a million for posting this

  • You welcome anytime....tc

  • best version??? Mickey Newbury!!!

  • Best version??? Mickey Newbury!!!

  • i wouldn't argue with that i have both plus DAC but for me Waylon is very very special

  • The best version I have ever heard of this tune was recorded about the same time as this was by David Allan Coe. Its on one of his albums from that period, but I can't recall which one.

  • Harley thanks for that i have the DAC version i think you'll find it on Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy but i am a massive Waylon fan and for me Waylons version as to be the one , but i appreciate your thoughts and thank you t c my friend

  • I honestly thought I knew everything he had ever done. This is like he just had a new song. Like everything else he ever did, the best. Maybe I will find a couple more that are "new", one can only hope.

  • Now i think i have got everything but but i still get surprised what i find on you tube sometimes

  • i own 63 waylon albums(havent played them all yet)this is new to me but its fantastic.ty 4 da post

  • Thanks Anthony stay tuned and enjoy

  • Newbury, Waylon, Sammi Smith, Townes and all went back a long way together. The "Newberry (sic) wanted it for himself" comment is inaccurate; Mickey's songs have been covered over a thousand times, and his "hits" were all by other artists. That's how he made his living. Waylon does a good job on this, but Mickey's version is the one for me.

  • Paganmaestro thanks for taking the time to comment . Shobus made a comment comparing this version with the DAC version. I did not mean that he (Newbury) wanted the song exclusively for himself just that he had written it and he liked it so much, he probably recorded it in the first instance i have to say i do like Mickey Newbury but i do prefer Waylons version of anything at all and i have the DAC version too, which i also like. Thanx again TC

  • My dad took my brother and I to the drive-in in 1967. He said Hank Williams was the best I said Waylon was. It was a double feature: The Hank Williams story and Nashville Rebel. We watch the first one my dad was telling me "see i told you he is the best." We sat there arguing the next movie started. We watched from beginning to end I kept telling him I was right he was wrong. Waylon was the best singer. Now I am 49 and he's still the greatest. Thank you teddie488 for posting the songs

  • This is such a good song as is your little story, but going back ti '67 Hank was probably was the biggest thing in country at that time and young upstarts like Newbury and Waylon had not yet properly arrived on the scene. The sad thing obviously none of them are with us any more. Thanks for commenting ...

  • This is a wonderful version, but for me the best version is the original by Mickey Newbury. It is on youtube.

  • I ain't gonna argue with that i love Mickey Newbury myself, and i do have his version. I am a great big Waylon fan and had to include his version of the song on these pages. i guess it comes down to personel preference. Thanks very much for commenting

  • david allen coe does this song on a tape i cant find it ,but if you ever heard it you would not think anyone else does it any better.

  • Shobus thanks for the comment i am a Coe fan too and have seen him on a few occasions here in the UK. but i am a bigger Waylon fan and this is the version for me, then Newberry , but yea i like DAC's version too

  • Personally I prefer Joan Baez's version it's much better. you can find that version on her Blessed Are. . . album.

  • debyok.......it is a good job we aint all the same , life would be so boring, there is no other version for me, i am a Waylon fan through and through so there aint even any point in listening to the other version , i probably have heard it already , but thanks for commenting.

  • An odd name for a really cool song from Waylie! I like it!

  • Waylon sings this version but the song was written by Mickey Newbury , Waylon sang about him in Luckenbach, Texas. Remember the line ''Hank Williams train songs and Newburys pain songs'' well this is the guy and some of his songs are really sad but nice.

  • Great pics of Waylon, and nice tune as well ty for sharing

  • Thanks Lucy always look forward to a comment from you .

  • Thank you for your comment, valued as always.

  • Very nice song. Does anyone know where I can find this CD?

  • you could get yourself a free you tube converter, on line for free and make your own digital copy from this clip then d/load on to a disc. The one i use is called '' A tube catcher'' it does the job . i dont think this as been released on a cd . Believe me it is very easy to do your own
