  • You people are crazy. The INXS intro completely bests The Echo and The Bunnymen intro. ~Signed, a child of the 80s.

  • I much prefer the first one. Perhaps it's just because it's the one I saw first and the one I'm used to, but probably also because I prefer Killing Moon to the INXS track anyway. I think Killing moon is darker and more haunting than the INXS track which, in turn, seems quite lighthearted watching the director's cut!

  • "Never Tear Us Apart" is a much better song, in my opinion (it's also one of my favorite songs of all time), but I think "The Killing Moon" is a better fit.

  • its pretty obvious that never tear us apart was made especially to fit with the intro, and that The killing moon was thrown in last minute. Both good though. Also, with The Killing Moon in the original theatre debut cut, they obviously knew putting the song in the party scene wouldnt work now with the sudden change of songs so they changed the party scene song.

  • Echo and the Bunnymen win

  • i see how the INXS works-----but i was gravely disappointed by the directors cut-----because i liked the first one so much----and i loved the placement of the music tracks-----i took a friend to the release of the directors cut---and was let down---just because of the music choices---i love the original release

  • inxs hands down! 1, it's a better song. 2, it suits the slow motion, idk it just has this dreamlike quality to it. i saw the director's cut 1st and couldn't even make it through the opening scene when i tried to watch the original. the soundtrack is the most memorable part of the movie for me and inxs just gives a better feel to the opening of the movie

  • The Director's Cut has the best of both-"Killing Moon" is included in a later scene in the movie.

And Richard Kelly had planned to use "Never Tear Us Apart" from the beginning, but didn't have the money for the royalties.

  • Love this film. Both openings work for me. But the INXS opening suits more I think because it's (beautiful) gentle piano film score by Michael Andrews and then soft medium-tempo synth chord sequence fading in and it just suits the mood of the film. However The Killing Moon (a beautiful song) makes the film seem different, in a way. Doesn't have the same effect for me. You can't choose over what's a better song here, that's not the case. The case is what suits this amazing opening sequence. Nev

  • @Stronzetty Because Richard Kelly didn't have the rights for the INXS song when it was released.

  • Neither works when you screw up the speed/tempo like in this vid. Both are sped up (faster than the original). :(

  • bunnymen is kinda a reference to frank too

  • @MattHXIV LoL... holy shit thats right!! Never even thought of that

  • They're both good until the dad appears. For some reason, "Killing moon" , seems more apprpriate. A few things to notice here: the red camaro meeting Donnie on the street- That's Frank's car- (Donnie's sister's boyfriend who becomes the rabbit). Listen to the words (from both songs) at that moment in the move. Great editing.

  • killing moon is better simply because of the lyrics at 40seconds.

  • for me it's better killing moon

  • the killing moon intro is sooo awesome

  • Haven't seen the Director's Cut, but the original song was much much better.

  • The original theatrical release was much better, IMO. Killing Moon killed it in the opening titles. It gave me goosebumps. The INXS song ruined a perfect opening sequence. Bad move, Kelly!

  • INXS! for ever

  • INXS, fotr ever

  • Why did they choose two songs?

I prefer the second one, I love the director's cut version.

  • inxs blows. killing moon makes me feel halloweeny.

  • inxs

  • bunnymen

    legendary

  • Echo

  • The feeling you get from the INXS intro is waaaaaay more 80's than the EATBM song. I vote INXS....

  • inxs intro for me

  • First :P Btw thanks for adding this. Used it in my film coursework ;)

  • @Internetaware Glad I could help you. You're welcome
